good to be with you. independent franc i'm frances rivera. developing overnight, 16 people are dead after a military plane crashed in western mississippi. responders rushed to the scene to put all the flames carefully keeping their distance. a lot of live ammunition was on the plane. jessica holly has more from the crash site. >> reporter: local, state and federal investigators are now working together to determine what caused this c130 plane, a military lane, to come down just outside moorehead, mississippi. investigators confirmed 16 people were on board. all 16 bodies have been recovered, but at this time, their families have yet to be notified of their death. investigators believe this u.s. marine corps plane took off from tennessee, but they were unable to tell us the plane's final destination. the plane exploded in the air before coming to the ground, investigators were unsure that was the case. i'm jessica holly in mississippi, back to you. military officials are on their way there to investigate the scene. so far a tweet from the marines only to confirm the crash and say further information will be released as available. also breaking this morning, an air force recruiting office in tulsa, oklahoma, was the scene of an explosion of a pipe bomb, according to initial reports. a bomb squad unit arrived on the scene and eyewitnesses describe seeing a backpack being thrown from a motorcycle prior to the explosion. an fbi spokesperson says they have no knowledge on that front. both the fbi and atf responded to the explosion and are at the scene alongside tulsa police. luckily, no one was hurt. the white house looks to be consumed by russia-related headlines including this bomb shell from "the new york times." it alleges donald trump jr. could help the campaign with negative information on hillary clinton. writing, quote, before arranging a meeting with a kremlin-connected russian lawyer he believed would offer him compromising information about hillary clinton, trump jr. was informed in an e-mail that the material was part of a russian government effort to the candidacy. questions on russia only grow. his lawyer dismissing reports calling it much to do about nothing. we're joined by tracie potts. good morning, how has the president been responding and what more do we know about the lawyer? >> the fact that he's responded through a lawyer is new. he's hired a criminal attorney to represent him on issues related to russia. let's take a look at statements from donald trump jr. through his lawyer dealing with the situation of him meeting with the russian attorney. he says that he was told by someone he knew that there could be information about hillary clinton, alleged wrong doing by the then democratic party front runner. his take away from that was that it could be potentially helpful to the campaign. he goes on to say he had no knowledge of specific information. there was no understanding that he would use the information, whatever it turned out to be, reliable or credible, completely backing away from that. now the senate intelligence committee wants to talk with donald trump jr. he says he would be happy to tell them what he knows and more sarcastically saying i'm the first person on the campaign to ever take a meeting to hear information about an on point went nowhere but had to listen. the attorney, the trump jr. lawyer, has donated to democrats in the past. which will be significant in that he'll be representing the president's son. >> certainly interesting, thank you. in hawaii an active duty soldier was arrested and charged with planning to provide support to isis. the 34-year-old allegedly swore allegiance to isis and attempted to provide both military documents and training to the jihadist group. according to the fbi, it was not plotting attacks on the u.s. and was acting all on his own. his attorney said it may appear he may have, quote, service related mental health issues after two deployments to the middle east. in washington the battle over health care has turned in a major test of wills and time. president trump tried to turn up the heat as the senate leaves on the august recess. attempting to sway on-the-fence republicans to vote for a plan some say is already dead. it comes just as senate leadership tried again to tweak their health care bill in a series of emotional protests. casey hunt has more. >> reporter: republicans feeling the heat over health care. staging loud protests in more than a dozen house and senate offices. 80 demonstrators arrested. republicans still huddling behind closed doors trying to thread the needle between conservative who is say the first draft wouldn't repeal obamacare and moderate who is thought it went too far to slash medicaid. congressional sources tell nbc news they are hoping to release a second draft by thursday with tweaks to sweeten the deal for both sides. but moderate republican senator susan collins telling nbc news that's not good enough. >> i don't think we can fix this bill by doing a tweak here and a trim there. it needs a complete overhaul. >> reporter: collins is under pressure from both sides. liberal groups spending millions on the air waves. >> when you vote on new health care bill, think about what's right for maine. >> the president tweeting i can't imagine the congress would leave washington without a beautiful new health care bill, fully approved and ready to go. in oklahoma where the only doctor is 87 years old and the sole hospital closed last year, kathy benson relies on medicaid and feels abandoned by the president she voted for. >> when he said on the campaign that everybody deserves the right to good health insurance, i think he should have stuck with
