it was a scarey situation on board an alaskan airlines flight heading to los angeles. minutes into the flight the pilot heard banging from within the aircraft. the pilot declared an emergency for a priority landing. turns out a ramp worker was stuck inside the front cargo hold area of the plane. according to alaska airlines the worker told authorities he had fallen asleep. when he woke up, the plane was in mid air. >> we've definitely launched an investigation to find out what happened, what procedures were not followed, and we will be following up with both the employee and aviation to make sure this doesn't ever happen again. after landing, the worker was taken to the hospital and has since been released. the front cargo hold of the plane is pressurized and temperature controlled. hillary clinton's road trip finds her rolling into iowa today. she's made it halfway across the country in her so-called scooby doo van. she made headlines after taking a quick is stop at a chipotle in ohio. apparently no one noticed her. today's front page of the "new york daily news" reads "who the hil are you?" last night marco rubio officially announced his bid for the white house. he did so by taking a swipe at clinton. >> just yesterday a leader from yesterday began a campaign for president by promising to take us back to yesterday. yesterday is over. nbc's edward lawrence is live in washington this morning. edward, it looks like the race for the white house is now heating up. hillary clinton is in iowa. she started a grass roots campaign and campaigning on the road in a van. the scooby van, as hillary clinton named it pulling into a restaurant in ohio. a few aids and two secret service members went inside for food. no one seemed to recognize the democratic front-runner. >> i'm hitting the road to win your vote. >> it was her hirs to talk to students at kirkwood. meanwhile the republican candidate for president grew to three. florida senator marco rubio announced he wants the nomination. >> the time has come for our generation to lead the way for a new american century. >> reporter: the youngest person to announce is a first generation american a son of cuban parents. >> i live in an exceptional country where is son of a bar maker and a maid can have the same future as those from power and privilege. >> he is the youngest candidate at just 43 years old. he has his first campaign event coming up friday in new hampshire. >> thanks. appreciate that update. a 2007 mass shooting have been sentenced. he got life in prison. paul out of liberty got 30 years each plus one day. the shooting in bagdad left 14 people dead and wounded 17 others. blackwater claimed its convoy came under attack. witnesses say the guards fired first and were never provoked. an fbi investigation found 14 of the deaths were unjustified. the case was initially dismissed in 2009 after they found the justice department withheld key evidence. lawyers for the men plan to appeal. this morning a law enforcement deputy will be charged with second degree manslaughter in the death of an unarmed black man. body cam video of the shooting shows the on-foot chase. eric harris was wanted following an undercover sting operation. law enforcement tackled him. one deputy shouted taser, taser. but the following sound was not a taser. [ shots ] >> i shot him. i'm sorry. >> a single gunshot followed by an apology. the man who pulled the trigger, 73-year-old bob bates, an insurance broker who volunteers as a reserve deputiy. the sheriff's department has called the shooting an accident. they say he had 400 hours of training since 2007. the victim's brother questions whether bates should have even been there at all. >> if he had as much training as he supposedly had, he would definitely know a .357 from a taser. >> on the heels of recent police shootings georgia congressman hank johnson took to the house floor yesterday with some pretty strong language. >> thank you, mr. speaker. it feels like open season on black men in america, and i'm outraged. in fact, all americans are at risk when bad actors in law enforcement use their guns instead of their heads. >> the congressman then called for reforms before reading off the list of names of several people killed by police including michael brown and tamir rice. an ex-nfl star is accused of murdering his prison cellmate. california prison officials say lawrence phillips is a suspect in the death of damion soward, he was found unresponsive in his cell on saturdays. he later died in the hospital. phillips is currently serving a 30-year sentence on charges of auto theft, false imprisonment and spousal abuse among others. in 1996 the running back was drafted by the rams. he was cut after two seasons for problems on and off the field. he later played for the dolphins and 49ers. a tragic accident in washington state. a young couple and their 8-month-old son were killed yesterday morning when a concrete barrier fell from a bridge onto their pickup truck. crews were doing construction when the accident happened. witness dawn nelson describes what happened. >> we were just heading down the street. i passed the car coming this way. and then it just snapped, i could hear three snaps and down it went on top of the truck. >> due to all the damage investigators could not access the truck until last night, some nine hours later. while many complain that using drones is an intrusion of privacy, add to that list this chimpanzee at a dutch zoo. the irritated chimp hit the drone with a stick, it fell to the ground where some of his friends seemed intrigued by the mechanical intruder. they soon lost interest in it. a dutch tv show is pierre fulton. he was with scott when he was pulled over. he said, quote, walter was a dear friend. i'll never know why he ran, but i know he didn't deserve to die. meanwhile, there are calls for new charges not against michael slager but other cops on the scene who claim they gave first aid to scott, including cpr. part of the cell phone video show officers helping scott but no chest a jury deadlocked twice on the death penalty. in 2008 she was accused of killing travis alexander, her ex-boyfriend. prosecutors say she was upset over the breakup. arias had this to say after the sentencing. >> it's my firm belief that death would bring me untold peace and freedom. for years that's exactly what i wanted. near miami police are looking for a man who allegedly set a bouncer on fire. that man was trying to earn money to pay his tab when he was asked to leave. the man came back. officers say he threw a cup of gas on the bouncer, the bouncer chased him out. that's when the man used a lighter to set him on fire. the guy got away. the bouncer remains hospitalized with severe burns. near san diego a very expensive car crash. take a look at this. >> oh! >> incredible there. the driver of a classic corvette lost control and drove right into a wall. it happened outside of an auto show. luckily the driver was not hurt. norovirus outbreaks have been reported on two san diego cruise ships. 99 passengers and one crew member suffered from gastrointestinal sickness on the "celebrity infinity" cruise ship. the boat had to be cleaned and disinfected after it docked in san diego at the end of its two-week trip. federal health officials are investigating. another ship, "the legend of the seas," is also dealing with an outbreak, 114 passengers have been reportedly vomiting and
