We thought perhaps we would be waiting for a runoff or perhaps the results of the a alaska race. It really ended up being more positive for republicans than originally was thought. And so it seemed to be a fairly strong antiincumbent wave. The president is now going to be on the defensive as far as trying to see whether this was a referendum on his time in office or just discontent overall across the nation. A Washington Post editorial brings up an interesting point saying, quote, republicans did not claim anything close to 60 seats. The magic number that would allow them to by pass democrats. Of course, the white house remains in democratic hands. The country has empowered republicans to share power. The question is, is that how republicans will view their wins . Well, thats certainly a good way to put it. Republicans dont have that 61vote majority that obviously they would want, but it wasnt in the cards this time around as far as the numbers go. Yes, absolutely, republicans are going to have to work with the president if they want to get any sort of expansive agenda passed. Otherwise theyll be able to veto what they pass. At this point there will have to be republican and democratic cooperation to get much legislation done in the next two years of the obama presidency. The president will talk to reporters later today. What is the one key message that he needs to get across . At this point hell have to talk about what exactly he plans to do and how he plans to get his agenda done in the next couple of years, whether he actually will have the ability to work with Mitch Mcconnell and the republicans in the senator if hell kind of be going back and forth with Republican Leadership in the house and senate and not actually getting things done.
