The fine Association for Research and enlightenment a.r.e in the land of university where he served as director of Economic Affairs for his master's degree program and transpersonal studies His latest book is the 2nd edition version of discovering your soul's purpose and Mark welcome to the program I'm looking forward to this now thank you and I have been since I was a kid off a fan of the work of Edgar Casey picked up a little book once by him and I was obsessed ever since I mean a whole remarkable what's that guy now really I was a high school senior when I came across the sleeping prophet I just turned this is on the late 1960 s. That I was really life changing for me one of my our earlier interviews on Coast to Coast was Sydney Kirkpatrick who now has written a nice blip for the back of your book and wrote a great story about Edgar Casey in his book yes his biography on American prophet I think is sort of the definitive biography of Casey's work how did all this lead for you to go into this field. Well I was really interested in becoming a scientist in high school I was really good at math and physics and I was going to go off and have a science career and I came across this kind of work and it stirred me in a different direction I ended up choosing psychology as an academic study because I thought the study of the mind is really what I wanted to explore for my life's work any regrets at all I don't know if you lovely career for me I've got a tape a segment for a movie tomorrow that this production companies doing on the late remote viewer Ingle Swan But they want a clip of my late aunt and I'm not sure if you ever came across her work Dr Shafi correct in law. You've written a lot of books even a lot of books about Casey but tell me about discovering your soul's purpose Tell me about that well when we look at your cue the body figure Casey's work which you did over a period of 43 years and we have the transcripts of his discourses or readings on lots of different topics most frequently he gave health diagnoses but the 2nd biggest category was nearly 2000 readings given for individuals who are trying to find meaning in life trying to find their life's purpose and even though those readings were given to individual people and their idiosyncrasies were sort of a pattern or a theme and how Edgar Casey served as a spiritual advisor or mentor to people on the search and so I tried to take that template of how he worked with people and create exercises for how somebody can basically take them self so that same process and come to a statement of their life purpose and create a plan for how they're going to put it in the application. And he did most of this in a trance type state did he not he did although it's a little known fact that in your case he was very psychic in the waking state as well but his readings were given in a prayer and duce trance like state he was amnesia if there hadn't been a stop to the Naga for there to write down everything he was saying he wouldn't have known what he had said and I think in some ways that might have been a self protective mechanism and he was dealing with so many people who were in confusion and physical pain and it allowed him to do his work and not be kind of carrying out with him at the conscious level Mark did he have help from the other side you know I think he would even describe it that way although he wasn't a trance channel in the sense of some other beings speaking through him his own readings describe this as his own higher self that could tap into the Kaschalk records or universal wisdom and truth and and articulate that but I think he knew that there were spiritual beings on physical beings that were part of this sort of support system that he had. So I was interviewing a theoretical physicist on my show last night and he does not believe in a God or of you know divine intelligence nor does he believe in life after death hence he doesn't believe in a shawl and. I don't know what you can do to convince somebody was a great interview but he doesn't believe in these things but he's in for a big surprise some day and me. Which is exactly what I wanted you to say what is the soul in your opinion yeah it's often seen as such a recount of a religious word and different faith traditions deal with this part of our being that might have continuity and in different ways but I think the word is also part of our vocabulary in a way that implies something deeply meaningful So Thomas Morris book in the 1980 s. Called care of the soul I think opened us up and it was a best seller to the way that we can be soulful in the way we live our lives if we're doing it with value and if we're doing it with mindfulness and if we're doing it with care at the same time the word connotes something about ourselves that is timeless that can continue beyond physical death and in your case the system of thought that includes reincarnation that we can return and have returned in human physical form and that the soul has had a progression of slowly awakening to the truth about itself Edgar was a huge supporter of reincarnation wasn't his reading certainly were early in his life because he was a fairly conservative Sunday school teaching Christian I think it's really gave him a lot of challenges and difficulties. And even though he wasn't a highly educated man and of academic or university sort of way he was self-educated he was a great student of the Bible and more he looked into the topic I think the more he found evidence implicitly in the Bible for reincarnation. And he may have discovered some of the scholarship about how the 1st 2nd and 3rd centuries of the Christian Church involve many branches that did believe in reincarnation as part of Christianity was. Was he convinced that the soul is something supernatural as opposed to something physical part of just being born . Well I think in cases philosophy we find acceptance of the notion of evolution but then alongside that involution but almost like a double helix that there's something biological about us in the development of the human body in the brain at the same time the notion that there was a spiritual creation of our consciousness or our being as it was taught of coming into materiality and so I think he's a believer in science and biological science at the same time he has this transcendental or transcendent notion of our spiritual origins Mark let's talk a little bit more about the soul itself and its its sole purpose I guess are only humans with souls I mean are they there's an animal a cat a dog do they have souls well in Casey's philosophy they do it it's somewhat different the human soul he suggests there's more of a collective soul to a species there's some indication in question and answers with Casey and some of the readings that there can be a reincarnation element to have a pet or an animal. I don't think he quite thought of animal soul as having quite the autonomy to it that we as humans have one about an insect. I don't know that he had dressed that. He certainly believed in the in the unity and the continuity in the connectedness of all of life so to the extent that there was a life form I think he felt like it was in sold or unspirited but I don't think he ever was very clear about whether it had any individuality to it at all now when you talk about discovering your soul's purpose tell me the meaning of that well. In the case the readings are sort of paradoxical comments as we often find in spiritual teachings so on the one hand he says that everybody's got the same soul purpose and then on the other hand he says everybody's got an individual soul purpose and the way I interpret that is to be as if you had a coin in your pocket and I have a coin in my pocket and everybody does and one side of that coin for each of us is the same and the other side is unique to us as an individual soul. And the side of the coin that's the same for everyone is what Casey called the sole purpose of bringing the infinite into the Finite of bringing the qualities of spirituality into individual physical material expression so we all share the task of the the mission of bringing love into the earth of bringing truth and light into the earth at the same time he said that each of us because of our individual soul nature and are the difference in our previous lifetimes have different sets of talents skills aptitudes capacities and those special talents when const a lighted purposefully give us things that were meant to be doing in life as a service as a contribution to the greater good on on planet Earth and so the soul's purpose individualistically is some way of taking those gifts and being about a work that contributes to the wellbeing of the whole now this is the 2nd edition So what does Mr Tait in the 2nd edition from discover in your souls purpose Well I think I'm a little of the wiser than I was or why I hope we all are I've done one day workshops and multiple day conferences on this topic and probably 50 or 60 different cities nationwide and other countries as well and I think what I've been able to do is collect some more stories of people applying these ideas and also I think more importantly to refine some of the exercises of self exploration that I have people go through in live work shop settings that may translate well into the written form of a book and then I think I've also become a little wiser around some of the social science research that's going on quickly the last 20 years as well as neuroscience. That's supporting a lot of the ideas that are in the case the reading. Would a lot of this include meditation Well I'd put that right at the top of the less you do your job now. I think Casey challenges us to in some way cultivate a contemplative practice for ourselves it's a way of connecting to our spiritual ideal it's a way of sensitizing ourselves to our gifts and talents and skills I think it's a way of coping with stress and the inevitable challenges are come from time to time to live one's life purpose there's so much literature now about burnout that and compassion fatigue for people who are in the helping professions and we've got to have self care methods we need to have mindfulness practices that allow us to sustain a purposeful life. Was Casey much of the meditator. Well I think even more so he was a devout prayer but he gave readings about how to meditate he was part of a meditation group called a search for God and he was very spiritual He was a very devout and spiritual man but both spiritual in the sense of believing in things spiritual but also even though I never never met him he died 5 years before I was born but every story I've heard about him. What was it he was a kind sensitive man who really lived his beliefs. And I think all the transfers he went into kind of bob destroyed his health didn't want well especially near the end of his life you know he died at 67 years she arguably early and if you look at the photos of him. Earlier in his life he actually had a boyish appearance when he was 30 years old he looked 23 or so and he was 45 he looked like he was his late thirty's and then suddenly something happens when he hits about 60 and he ages very quickly and the pictures of him in the last year of his life he looks like he's 80 and he was he became quite famous in the 1940 s. There were some things published in mainstream magazines and he was getting hundreds and hundreds of requests for readings every week and rather than doing the 2 readings a day that he was supposed to be doing he got up to 6 and 811 sometimes per day and it created tremendous strain on his physical body undermined his health and he died you talk about strategies to tap into your souls purposely to tell me about a few of those well.
