Reporter were here on South Broadway north of evans where there are three different marijuana dispensaries within the same block. This proposal, well show you how this works by using pot shops as quarters. We brought our map here. This is a map of denver. You can see some of them are clustered together. This idea is to get them to spread apart or not have as many within cluster. No new quarters can go on the board now, because of the moratorium. If that moratorium goes away, the idea of the cap is not to allow so many pot shops to build up in one portion of the neighborhood. If a cap is passed when a new one does, they are spread out. The neighborhoods in theory would then win because theyre not being overconcentrateed or over saturated. The other idea is depending on the number the cap has decided. This is an idea, not a proposal yet. No votes on this. But if there was a cap per se in an area that already has lets say three dispensaries. The cap is two. When one closes a new one cant reopen here in that same area. Again, overall, then, lowering the number of pot shops or within a specific neighborhood. This also gives businesses the option that while if we cant open another location, maybe a medical Marijuana Dispensary would change to a recreational one, and they would be subject to more oversight by the city and have to pay more taxes. This has been brought up by one of the Council Women on Denver City Council. Well keep you informed on what happens with all these quarters. Jason gruenauer, denver 7.
