you would hope it's a company trying tt make sure their drivers are behaving. one local man called and got the driver himself. >> he said, did you get a number? i said, yeah, it was 5280. he said that was me and you can go [bleep] yourself you piece of [bleep]. >> nnt the reaction you would want. he said he was driving to dia wednesday and a truck started tailgating him and swerving in traffic. he got the number off the truck and called it. andrew says the driver also started to send him vulgar text messages after he made that call. you can read those texts and find a link to complain about 7 app. now car thefts are up in our state. thieves took off with nearly 15,000 vehicles last year state- wide. that's up 30% from 2014. denver had an average of 286 car thefts a week. colorado springs ranked second. honda civics and accords are the most common. for ttese women in these pictures. police want to talk about an unsolved attempted merchandise case back -- homicide case back in may. police say the gun used in that case could be linked to five other unsolved crimes. this gang member will spend the next 20 years in prison for beating a 2-year-old girl to death. hassan jones was dating the toddler's mother at the time. this happened in 2015 when jones was caring for that sue the city. a group of homeless people met with an attorney to sign onto a possible class action suit. jason gruenauer has looked into this. they're planning to file this suit pretty oon, about 10 days from now? >> reporter: yeah, within the next two weeks and then it would be up to a judge to decide if public places like this, if the city and police can continue their enforcement and basically kicking homeless people off of public property and public sidewalks. this is all part of the enforcement of denver's urban camping ban that basically says homeless people can't set up shop and live on the sidewalks or in public parks or in public places. that started, the enforcement of it, rather, in march. since then parks and other places have also seen sweeps, in many cases property left over has been thrown out. we've even seen arrests. a local lawyer wants an monetary damages. >> the city is hacking unconstitutionally -- acting unconstitutionally and not respecting the rights of american citizens who are homeless. >> reporter: the city has long defended its policy and its enforcement saying the camps % are unsanitary and in many cases unsafe, saying they are well within the law, and their enforcement has been well already having several homeless people signing on as plaintiffs, it's expected to be presented into federal court in the next 10 days and we'll see where things go from there. live along lawrence street downtown, i'm jason gruenauer, denver 7. this may sown strange -- sound strange, but it's serious. a woman was hospitallzed after smelling something on an rtd bus. denver police say a male cell phone. she had trouble breathing and was taken to the hospital. a woman is alive today thanks to the gift from not one, or two, but more than 300 strangers. four years ago cassidy smith had severe complications giving birth to her daughter. shred to undergo six surgery, an hour of cpr and received more than 270 units of blood product. this week she finally got to say thank you to the more than 30 of those >> the real gift or miracle is that i just get to be me, imperfect me, but a friend, a daughter, and a mother of a smart beautiful girl with dark curly hair. it's an honor to have this opportunity to meet you all and thank you. >> smith hopes her story encourages all of us to donate blood. school is bbck in session now for students in jeffco, and for students and staff, it may be one of their last in some of the buildings. kendrick lakes elementary is one of the buildings identified in the master plan as having major issues inside and outside. there are other schools that could be totally rebuilt or at least upgraded if voters pass a bond issue in november worth more than $500 million. >> the voters in jeffco realize that we have a significant investment in the 154 facilities that we have. in order to sustain the property values we have provide a quality education as jeffco has done for 60 years, we need to have the facilities that can do that. >> to give you an idea of some of the need there, of the 239 portable buildings the district uses for classes, only five of them were built after 1988. >> been around for a while. >> yeah. this hour of the day, who doesn't need a cup of coffee?
