It is difficult to fund all the needs that are being requested, giien the low funding were seeing from the state. Faced with the need to make cuts nearing 20 million, the district says its slashing 157 full time educators from the district office. Of those, about 50 are expected to be rehired in schools. The rest are out of a job. There will be increases in some schools, decreases in others. Each school will have to deal with that with their community of how you balance as you see the district is blaming lower enrollment numbers because of a 2008 recession and high real estate prices that are driving low income families out of the district. But one union rep tells us at schools like beach court elementary, enrollment isnt decreasing. The union spec lats the union is scrapping as many teachers as possible. Cutting tens of millions of dollars has to impact classrooms like these. Some of those are vacant positions, but some of those are actual people who have lost their position. We checked with the five biggest districts in the state. They say no teachers will be cut because of a dip in enrollment.
