involved in three smash and grabs overnight. -`denver7 reporter eric lupher is live at the shopping center off %- broadway at hampden. >> reporter: this could be on an episode of stupid criminals, let's put it that way. police are telling us the crook smashed the door to this electronic store and smashed in the door at that asian restaurant a few doors down. he walked home and it snowed, so clearly he left behind some that's how police nabed this guy. it first started at %ew1hazaba hair salon on east hampden. there were footprints there and lost it. that hair salon. listen. >> just broken glass everywhere. and a cash register that was empty and out on the counter. >> reporter: did they take anything from thh register? >> no, they did not, because i didn't have cash in it. >> reporter: of course that owner was very excited to hear a possible suspect was arrested. by the way, that suspect has a lengthy criminal history, including prior burglaries. we'll keep that in mind of course, and this is interesting, this is next door to the electronics shop. this is actually a jewelry and watch store, but you can see on this store they've got bars on the other side of the glass, so perhaps that's why the crook didn't hit this spot. you never know. eric lupher, denver 7. >> eeic, thank you. the snow continues to fall. i just looked outside before the show. it's really pretty. >> it's gorgeous. picced up another inch or two this morning. nice to see. i love when mother nature listens. or when we listen to her is probably the better way. you can finally make out the buildings, but you can see the big flakes coming down. it is beautiful. mainly the highways at this point, jayson will get to that in just a minute, are wet. some of the side streets because of the consistent snow are snow packed and icy. here's a look at radaa. 3 you will notice that in some spots things are starting to break up a little more. down near littleton, highlands ranch, lighter activity there. not as heavy. it's moving off f i-25 a bit. will remain light to moderate through the early afternoon. -`maybe adding another half an inch to an inch at best in shot -- spots. most of the totals in denver, they're going to stick. our temperatures have dropped. early this morning, upper 20s to near 30. now low to mid-20s and that's through the afternoon, with a few flurries lingering through evening. this won't be one of those storms where the skies clear by sunshine. cloudy and cold and overnight tonight waking up tomorrow with potentially dense fog in spots. our futurecast shows how things will liihten up more so this afternoon and evening. we'll get you through your few minutes. over to jayson. the roads have been a problem. you would have thought there was a foot of snow on the ground. >> changing conditions, even in the last couple of hours. this morning we had all the road problems and accidents and spiiouts. now we're turning to more wet and slushy conditions on and off the highway. still can see the slow fflling downtown at 18th and market. roads conditions are mostly slushy. along 6th at sheridan, mostly wet conditions. much of the same on i-70 by the earlier crash jackknifed `emi by colfax is cleared up. between downtown in the denver tech center wet with some of the slushy areas on the ramps and bridges. there is an accident on colorado boulevard at i-25. also one by yale and dahlia between colorado and i-25. you can see c-470 basically wet at this point. one of the worst areas was south, founders parkway. you can see the nasty conditions, i-25 founders parkway, look at the slow traffic in douglas county. will take a couple of extra minutes. one of the latest accidents out there on c-470 by quebec. major king has been up north, you're in wellington now. what does it look like now, major? >> reporter: it's like you mentioned, there is some residual slush on the freeway. it's below freezing, so it is i came up here doing about 60 it's traveling fairly well, but not at the top speed of 75 people would normally do. we're at the wellington exit along i-25. you can see, i'll step out of the shot, you can see the slush on the road that folks are working along. % this started about 6:00 yesterday down south in a fine mist and evolveed overnight into snow. check it out, we shot th overniiht, this morning, 4 inches in fort collins. that was in my driveway. we caught up with the snow plows, morning commute in fort collins took about twice as long as normal. hopefully they're catching up with that snowfall now. check out this semi trailer. speeds were about 60 miles per hour coming up here to wellington. pretty good speed and yet it's dangerous. you can tell by this compact car that slid off the i-25 southbound ramp here in wellington. they are still working to clear this car. managed to take out the guard rail, and really kind of doing a number on his car. coming back here livv, you can along i-25. the road isn't closed. take it a little bit easier, slow down a little bit and get to where you're going. live in wellington, major king, denver 7. >> major, thank you for the update. now if you have a trip today. earlier this morning the airport got a little under 3 inches offsnow. they're prepared for that. expecting a few more inches throughout the day. officials say the runways are in great shape. more than 20 flights have been canals eled today, but that's out of 15000total scheduled. if you won the $800 million power ball prize you'd be richer than some highest paid celebrities. wwth the snow falling today, the question is are people still buying tickets? i imagine they are. denver7 reporter sally mamdooh scene for us today. orter: you're looking at that celebrity here, right in front offyou. it's been snowing all day in littleton today. to give you an idea of how much snow, this car has been sitting outside the gas station for a couple of days because it broke down. this is all the snow that d on top of it. let's see here. i'd say a good 2 to 3 inches of snow so far. % $800millionis waiting for somebody to win somewhere. who knows. maybe tomorrow, maybe it will happen tomorrow. this is how ch somebody could win by tomorrow. despite actually this high number, not too many people are buying tickets today. the store manager gave me the report of the tickets and only tickets total today. not too many people are coming in. but he did tell me that tomorrow probably would be busy draw the numbers. guy who despite the snowy conditions decided to buy a couple of tickets. >> how many tickets did you y? >> it will. the next couple of hours more light snow. i think any accumulation half an inch to an inch in town. farther east, live look at sterling. it is gorgeous. about 15 miles southeast of it. beautiful shot there. picking up 1, 2, even 3 inches across the plains with this storm. the system itself continuing to bring pretty good snow, especially across parts of southern colorado. that's where we're expecting mmre and i'll show that to you in just a minute. look at our totals, around the 2 to 6--nch range, the heavier numbers on the southern and western edge. this will be a two-day total. in some cases you had a good 1, 2, even 3 inches yesterday and a lot of that melted and we had more ovvrnight. thissover about two days. this storm lived. thwier advisory remains in effect until 2:00 this afterroon for an additional half inch to maybe an inch. picked up about 1, 2, even 3 early this morning. bad timing with that morning drive. now the roads are starting to improve. you'll find if you're heading south, closer to pueblo, into trinidad, the winter storm warnings and advisories in sangre de cristos picking up 12 inches of snow. telluride, durango, purgatory, good snow. you'll find mainly cloud cover, a few lingering flurries, but accumulation tonight. that will be farther south heading into new mexico. that's been a tough drive for the past couple of days. 930:00to about 10:00, still light snow in the mountains through early tomorrow morning. early saturday ould be waking up to dense fog. we saw that this morning and could get that early saturday before skies clear out a bit more. looks like we're going to be undee a mix of sun and clouds, partly sunny sky rday. silly to show you our highs, because we hit them this morning. we'll stay in the low to mid- ures closer to 10 degrees tomorrow morning. chilly to the southwest. both aspen and gunnison in the teens now. overnight lows will stay cold. single diiits to low teens through early next week. our highs likely in the mid- to upper 20s come saturday and sunday. we''e going to see more sunshine early next week. you'll find our bright spot not until the end of the week when things warm up a bit. 20s the next three days. we'll start to bounce back and get back to near normal by thursday with a hhgh of 43. then we're going to be focusing on football weather that next big game. >> big game. looking forward to it. thank you. the numbers are out for the u.s. job market in 2015. did we soar or tank? >> reporter: i am in englewood here off hampden, overproud way, actually -- broadway, actually south of hampden. we're waiting for the snow to taper off. you can see the volume is large enough now that we've chopped away some of that ice. it was slick through this corridor earlier this morning. jayson was saying he almost needed help this morning because there were so plane accidents -- accidents along the highway, ally to the south. now there's enough traffic that even with the additional snowfall it's not sticking any more. it's too warm at this point. the roads starting to thaw out. side streets icy. `ake it easy at the major intersections, on and off ramps, bridges and all that stuff. i'm starting to see a little bit of the sun trying to peek still tricky on the streets today. i'm ric lupher, denver 7. >> thank you. when the sun comes out and it's snowy like that it hurts your eyes. you can seeric starting to squint. `> jayson always needs help. he needed extra. the roads were bad. so many crashes this morning. >> spinouts. it was rough. >> the snow continues at this point. it's light to moderate east. here in denver it was really a pretty scene you saw from eric's live shot. it will continue like this the next our or two and a few flurries. likely won't add more accumulation. this morning we picked up 1 to 3 inches in spots of nnw snow. you can see the clouds that linger with us through about 5:00. you might see a little sunshine trying to peek through. for the moss part we'll be under cloud cover, a few flurries through the early evening and our temperatures so far below normal. normal high today is 44. number in half. 20s today through sunday. then more of a warmup. we'll talk about that coming up in a few minutes. over to the guy that always needs help. >> lots and lots of help. i could have used several assistants this morning. accidents at one point within five minutes, a dozen accidents on and off the highways and they kept coming in. i-76 and 270, some ramps are still slick. even though it looks just wet, there are still icy spots out here. you can see the snow that still falls to the north side of i- 70. let me give you aacdot tour here. here in capitol hill, colfax and park, mostly wet. but the snow falling. -`same thing i-70 and havana where traffic has lightened up. southbound i-25 was an hour and a half from doontown to the denver tech center aa one point. i watched a couple of plows scraping the snow, especially off the side of the highway and you can see between downtown and denver tech center now it's condiiions. drive. most of the traction control laws and other issues on 285 and i-70 to the west have been cleared up. thank you. denver police officerssjust rolled out the new body cameras. the e saying transparency is their goal. %- we were at the press conference. kyle?
