take the test in just 3 months and they have been preparing for the act, not the sat. one superintendent calling this an 11th houu decision that ability to get into college. for 14 years high school juniors in colorado have been required to take the act exam in preparaaion for college. >> you can take a fall sat or p sat. >>reporter: the colorado department of education is changing that requirement now switching to the sat exam. >> what it's like is is trying to change the tire while the car is moving. >>reporter: cherry creek is among the most vocal districts lashing out at that decision. september harry bowl sent this letter points stating the cde's decision is troubling and will be a disadvantage to all students. >> but i know around here the colleges at least we applied for all looked at act first. >>reporter: sap hammond has an 11th grade date at creek and another daughter at the university of kansas. >> we gave them sat scores, but everything seemed to apply to the act when they are pulling information about scholarships an money. >>reporter: in response to a barrage of concerns, the and working on what it calls a transition plan for this year's junior class. >> we are hoping to be able to give the act exam for this year's 11th great students. >>reporter: the interim commissioner sending out a letter of his own stating to require thhs year's 1th graders to take the sat would not be in their best interest. plan still needs approval from both the sat and act venddrs. >> we're optimistic but nothing is final yet. >>reporter: that final decision could come at the beginning of next weee. the 15 member committee made this change after a new state law required them to put the test out for bid. much more to come on this. for now we're live at denver west high school. russell haythorn denver 7. what are the differences between the two tests? the act and sat. the princeton review says it students best abilities are. the sat has more sections 10 critical reading math and likely look at your scores in each subject. the act includes science which is thought included in the other testtand is more of a big picture exam. so schools will probably look at your overall score. starting this week you will see more denver cops wearing body cameras on more than 800 officers will be wearing these cameras. deputy chief matt murray says this these cameras will help protecting the pubbofficer interest and providing evidence for investigations you can expect to see these new cameras when they start rolling out on thursday. a man trusted to care for people is there's two parts to this weather system. take a look at temperatures across north america. it's below zero up in central and northern canada. haven't seen a lot of that this winter, but it's coming our way. as a cold front slides %- southward that front will interact with the storm coming in from the west and the rrsult will be heavy snow in the high country and a couple of inches of snow much colder weather down here in the denver area. but not quite yet. it's 34 currently. 31 out at the airport. 45 was the high today. skies are still mostly clear. and tonight we'll just have high clouds light winds and temperatures dropping down to about 21 by morning. normal low is at 18. tomorrow low to mid 40s that's right about where we should be gradually increasing clouds but no precipitation expected for denver or across the northeast plains. mostly 20 lower elevations colder forth morgan 15 sickle digits and teens to the west of the mountains and across the state overnight tonight. merge thursday night into friday the mild air is out of here colder wertz and one to inches of snow expected friday in denver. mostly clear cold tonight and 21 tomorrow the high temperature at 43. air
