"the reason the governor pointed to whene vetoed funding for k-12 schools was that it was an issue of frugality."although the 52 million figure was agreed on by both republicans and democrats branstad said the state couldn't afford it and that spending one time money was a bad precedent to set for ongoing expenses."the governor's veto of one-time funding in july impacted the district by losing revenue that was going to be airmarked towards the purchase of social studies curriculum for our high schools and elementary science curriculum."despite vetoing the money for the state's schools the governor has managed to put into motion a big *cut* in sales taxexeon corporations. he's set up an "administrative rule" that's much like an executive action taken by the president. if branstad doesn't withdraw the rule that tax cut will take effect january 1st even though it's never been approved by the legislature. "to say that it's of the utmost importance to veto 52 million dollars and come back witha very similar amount in a tax break that will be ongoing for years into the future, i think it strikes people as saying two things and not really being able to commit truthfully to either.""the impact on the sioux city community school district is that we will have a loss of sales tax revenue between a range of 240 to 500 thousand dollars a year."siouxland news contacted the governor's office who issued this statement:"the rule is necessary because 15% of all protests heard by the dor concern this sales tax exemption. manufacturing is the largest sector of iowa's economy, providing hundreds of thousands of iowans with high quality jobs, and these taxpayers deserve straight answers."governor branstad's press secretary ben (ham-mess) hammes also pointed out that education funding is up 35% under this administration. there will be a public hearing to further discuss the tax cut later this year."it really is an odd issue and one that has completely circumvented the legislature processes that are put in place to provide a check on the governor's office and i think citizen's really should be concerned." in sioux siouxland news.3 3 hundreds of bacon lovers got their fill of bacon flavored foods this weekend at t southwest bacon fest.the event just wrapped up at the albuquerque international balloon museum. from fiery bacon to bacon funnel cakes... 50 restaurants and food trucks shared their unique bacon dishes.folks even got to take be part of a bacon cooking contest and a bacon eating contest. fifteen breweries and four bands were there... too. 3 3 3 3 3 virtual reality is coming... even if no one really cares right now. we'll take a look... next... in your 3 3 we are looking few days weatatr-wise.today we canan skies but breezy conditions 30mph. tomorrow will see clouds siouxland ahead of a storm system.lot of uncertainty with this moves north/south or slows down could change theorecast mpletely.looks like we could see a few late thursday night into the early morning wednesday, a few could be severe.will be a very windy day with rain off and on throughout the day.there is a chance that rain could rain/snow mix thursday morning, but don't expect any accumulations at this time. after this 3 system passes we will clear out with of sunny skies and temperatures 50's for the weekend. 3 technology pushing virtual reality as the wave of pushing 3 weekend.50's for the 3 weekend. 3 technology companies are pushing virtual reality as the wave of the future. here's your c -
