it's because if there is a way to get in, then somebody will find the way in. there have been people that suggest that we should have a backdoor. but the reality is if you put a backdoor in, that backdoor is for everybody, for good guys and bad guys. >> but do the government have a good point, they say if we have information is evidence of criminal conduct, or national security behavior. >> if the government lays a proper warrant on us today, then we will give the specific information that is requested, because we have to by law. in the case of encrypted communication, we don't have it to give. like your i-messages are encrypted. >> help me understand how you get to the government's dilemma. >> i don't believe the tradeoff here is privacy versus national security. i think that's an overly simplistic view. we're america. we should have both. >> in our next hour we'll hear how cook talks about tax. you can see the entire interview sunday night on "60 minutes." we'll take you inside apple's hundreds of heavily armed militants mounted a series of attacks starting wednesday on kurdish positions near mosul. isis controls that city. kurdish ground forces needed backing from the air. the u.s. and its allies launched strikes that lasted 17 hours and helped repel the assault. many of the nation's theme parks are stepping up security ahead of the holidays. visitors to disney, seaworld, and universal studios theme parks will see stricter security measures. anna werner is outside disney world in atlanta, florida. anna, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. white tents went up yet with metal detectors underneath. some visitors to disney world will get that secondary screening. also just to eliminate the possibility of any confusion between a toy gun and a real gun, these toy guns, even water pistols, will no longer be allowed in the park or sold in the happiest place on earth is trying to stay that way. disney is installing metal detectors to beef up security at its florida and california theme parks. >> definitely speaks to the times. but it doesn't bother me that we have to wait a little bit longer, because i feel safer. >> reporter: disney officials say they've added visible security measures. guests 14 years and older will no longer be allowed to wear costumes. and toy guns, including water pistols, have also been banned and removed from disney store shelves. in a statement, disney said, "we continue review our comprehensive approach to security and are implementing initial security measures as appropriate." other major properties, including universal theme parks and seaworld, have begun taking similar precautions. >> venues are continuously >> reporter: mark herrera is a venue safety and security educator. >> when you have situations such as the most recent terrorist attacks, they revisit their emergency plans and fine-tune them. >> reporter: increased security can't spoil the magic for the fitzhugh family, who drove twenty hours to orlando for their disney vacation. do you worry about somebody doing something? how does that make you feel? >> i feel optimistic, because this give us me a chance and us really are. >> american muslims come from 77 different countries, speak over a hundred different languages and dialects. the media. and largely the narrative is something of isis or someone else. that's not our religion. that's not our narrative. i think it's time for us to take that back. >> i also think it's important not to ignore the fact that all this painful conversation is not necessarily positive, even though it is an opportunity, oftentimes there are manifestations of violence in this rhetoric. >> how is it painful? >> it's a my faith, representative of part of who i am. to see that it's been so >> i put a callout to muslim parents across the country not to watch the republican debate, because subjecting our children to hear the hateful stereotyping is actually something that is psychologically impacting. >> don't you want the kids to know the challenges they face? >> i don't want my children to be subjected to racism andville i ification of my faith. >> how many of you are physically afraid? >> there's been an increase of hate crimes that have been reported as well as in the united kingdom there's been a 300% increase in hate crimes. >> do you understand why people are afraid? >> i absolutely understand to a certain degree why people are afraid. we can't hide behind the fact that americans right now, non-muslim-americans, do feel afraid. not because of the fact that because somebody looks different. we're not chanting death to america, okay? we don't have bombs in our hands, okay? we're just being ourselves. and this is a narrative that's missing right now. >> i'm proud to be a muslim. i'm proud to be an american. and no one's going to take that away from me. >> so i've got to ask you guys, how did you feel when you first learned that the murderer in san bernardino held your faith? >> every time there's some kind of an attack or crime in this country, i'm literally praying, and i'm sure everyone else here is literally praying it's not a muslim. and when it is, i know exactly what's going to happen. >> the people that committed those heinous crimes, they were not members of my faith. i want that to be very clear. >> therecy cycy cyis a problem. too many american muslims have committed violence. and their interpretation is such that this is in the name of so i don't think we can, you there's been too many of these incidents. >> are you muslim first or american first? >> i am an american muslim. i can be both at the same time. i don't choose one over the other. i am both simultaneously. >> there are so many other issues besides our religion. this is not a muslim-only issue. i'm an american. we are americans here. and we have so many facets to our identity. we cannot be characterized in this neat little box. >> repeating that this is un-american, that it's un-american to be hateful toward a group of people, is historically inaccurate, as difficult as that is for me to say. we have targeted, we have discriminated against. we've had internment camps of groups before. history. future. >> frank, this is an important debate, a very important conversation that has to be taking place in america in this time. what was in a sense the essence of what you saw and heard here? >> very deep frustration that nobody is listening to them, that they are the focus of debates, that they are the focus of all sorts of conversations. many of them negative. and that they don't have a voice, that they're being attacked by the leading presidential candidates and no one is hearing their response. they were so grateful to be gathered in that room to have the chance to speak out. by the way, charlie, there's going to be a much longer clip of this on cbsn. you can go to the web and see ten minutes of this, because we left out so much. the anger towards donald trump, the fear that they have walking in the streets every day. these are voices that aren't heard. >> do they speak to the responsibility of muslims to get engaged in this conversation? >> they do, but they also speak -- and i kept trying to ask them that, and they spoke to the responsibility of the media and of society not to label them and not to discriminate against the name of a religion that they would argue isn't practicing, that they're committing crimes that these people end up getting blamed for. they talk about the discrimination. and it is very dramatic. for me it was very emotional. i was trying to be diplomatic. but i'm going to admit something. i did not push as much as i normally do in these sessions. >> why? >> the reason why is because i wanted their voice to be unedited. i did not want to push them into saying things they did not believe. their animosity towards donald trump is unprecedented. and what i would love to see is trump at a muslim community, have him hear what they had to say. it would be so dramatic. >> words are very powerful and can be very hurtful. that's why it's so important you had this conversation. a reminder, you can't paint anybody with one brush. >> exactly. >> cannot do it. >> everyone's got to get heard. >> the beginning of a conversation hopefully that will lead to some resolution. from dearborn, michigan, to los angeles, we're gathering voices from the islamic community. we'll highlight those on our facebook and instagram pages. for more, go to cbsthismorning.com. would you pay thousands to see adele perform live?
