arrested for d-u-i. the driver of the white corvette drove away from the scene./// ((brian loftus)) we're learning more about a small plane crash in elko friday night... that killed everyone on board. f-a-a investigators are still trying to determine what caused the american medflight plane to crash shortly after leaving the airport... but say the pilot may have prevented more fatalities by crashing into a parking lot... avoiding homes and businesses. the pilot, two medical crew members, and a patient were they were on their way to a hospital in salt lake city./// ((brian loftus)) a man is dead and his girlfriend under arrest for his murder. metro police say 35-year-old cheryl rheamount shot her boyfriend and left him in a vehicle... in the desert area near the intersection of east judson avenue and dolly lane last night. they were dispatched to her apartment near east lake mead and marion drive around 8p-m... where police say rheamount confessed to the shooting. this is the 152nd homicide investigated by metro this year./// morning... and we've seen some light showers in the mountains and light snow up in the higher elevations. ........................... temps in the 50s now at noon... with some breezes here and there as this area of low pressure slides through today. ....................... we started out some very loud thunderstorms with heavy rain overnight well before dawn...packw eastern clark county .... then quickly shifted east into arizona and caused some flooding problems near kingman. ............ we'll keep possible showers through the afternoon and highs in the low 60s.... then on to a nice sunny and normal week for thanksgiving. that forecast coming up./// ((brian loftus)) even though triple-a thanksgiving holiday... more people are predicted to fly compared to last year. 8 news now reporter nia wong spoke to travellers about their experience this season. she joins us live from mccarran international airport. nia? ((brian loftus)) still ahead on 8 news now, new findings show men's prostate cancer may have a surpring genetic link. we'll show you what doctors are saying about the family tie... after the break. ((brian loftus)) researchers in seattle ce surprising findings: men may be at a higher risk for developing advanced prostate cancer if women in their family have had female cancers like ovarian or breast. martie salt has the details. ("hi good morning mr. dudley. how are you doing?" "i'm great. how are you?") reverend william dudley first got a tough diagnosis back in 2008. having prostate cancer was a huge shock, since he didn't feel sick. rev. william dudley "it was just my doctor thought she needed to do the exam. that age." he started treatment right away, but four years later the cancer had spread. some of it was in his back. he needed surgery or he might not be able to walk again. rev. william dudley "they cleaned out the cancer. they put a rod in and three screws. and then from there i won't say i had to learn to walk again but i had to learn to walk again." reverend dudley's family has a history of cancer. and now a the seattle cancer care alliance shows a surprising genetic link. heather cheng, md, phd director of prostate cancer genetics clinic seattle cancer care alliance "this is a big surprising finding and it's new. it involves many of the same genes that are involved in breast and ovarian cancer risk." in the study of nearly 700 men with advanced prostate cancer, they found almost 12 percent had inherited cancer risk genes that likely contributed to their cancer. some of those same genes like brca (brack-ah) one and two that contribute to breast cancer also affect men. because of the ways these genes were first identified with families that have breast and ovarian cancer, it fell through the cracks a little bit in the importance to men in those families." (:10) doctors say it's important for family members to share that history with each other and their doctors because early detection is key to winning the fight against cancer. i'm martie salt, reporting.
