hillary clinton and donald trump were facing off in their first presidential debate. thanks for joining us... i'm paul joncich. ((denise valdez)) >> and i'm denise valdez... christianne klein has the night off. both candidates are claiming victory in last night's debate... and plenty of topics were covered. ((paul joncich)) >> but some of the talk is about what wasn't covered. politics now anchor patrick walker is here with that side of the story. ((patrick walker)) >> it's easy to play monday morning quarterback. last night's debate covered several topics... going toward both candidates' wheelhouses. but one thing we didn't hear about ((patrick walker)) perhaps the most controversial and most anticipated topic of this year's presidential election... hardly received so much as a mention... let alone a full question. ((dr. david damore/unlv political science professor: "what surprised me was some of the content, some of the things that didn't get talked about, in particular, there was no question about immigration, which has been very salient throughout the election.")) ((patrick walker)) latinos make up around 30 percent of the electorate in nevada. an issue that resonates deeply... especially in the southwest. ((dr. david damore/unlv political science professor: "that's where you see a clear divide among the parties, over that, and it's a polarizing issues for some voters as well.")) ((patrick walker)) democratic congreesswoman dina titus says immigration reform is an especially polarizing and important issue for voters in the silver state. ((rep. dina titus/(d) las vegas: 7.59 "the whole question of immigration reform will be critical, and certainly as we are seeing more and more hispanics as part of the electorate (.08), in nevada that's especially true." 8.10 )) ((patrick walker)) hillary clinton over the last month here in nevada. the real clear politics average has trump in the lead by two points. this... as latinos continue to poll favorably for clinton. ((patrick walker: "what does donald trump do to try to bridge that gap, can he bridge the gap and get the latino vote here?" helen aguirre ferre/rnc hispanic communications director: "well we know that through polling, more than 20 percent of the latino vote is persuadable, and we're going to go after each and every one of those votes.")) ((patrick walker)) so when will the topic come up in the debates? but there's a good chance it will play a prominent role in the final debate... hosted right here at unlv. ((patrick walker)) >> both camps have spent a lot of time here recenttly... and perhaps more importantly... a lot of money. we're talking millions from the campaigns... and political action committees. and with the race the way it is... expect more visits... and more ads the next 6 weeks. ((denise valdez)) >> what has the trend been in those polls that are averaging now in trump's favor? ((patrick l one poll had clinton by one point. subsequent polls had trump by 2, then 3, now 4 percentage points. but remember... nevada is particularly difficult to accurately poll... and a 3 or even 4 point lead is often within the margin of error. bottom line... it's a dead heat here./// ((paul joncich)) and it isn't just people from around the world tuned in to watch donald trump and hillary clinton. at a coffee shop in beijing... people watching the debate felt the candidates misrepresented relations between the u-s and china... but thought trump would be friendlier towards their country. and in russia... reaction to the debate varied. one young mother said the anything right now"... and when clinton suggested that russia could be behind recent cyber attacks... an engineer said maybe they were russian hackers... but that doesn't mean they were operating on the order of the government. in london... people are allowed to bet on politics. oddsmakers picked hillary clinton as the clear winner... with 2- to- 5- odds that she'll be the next president./// ((paul joncich)) and we're your local election headquarters... covering all the debates and all the races this election cycle... on air and online at las vegas now dot com./// ((tedd florendo)) ((( skies are starting to cloud up a little from the south and we see some moisture come in from mexico. some points south seeing a few light passing showers right now with only slight possiblities for the region tonight. than yesterday and winds remaining light for now. dewpoints and humidity still remain quite low but will go up tomorrow as more moisture works its way up from the south. ..... .............................. .................. tonight expect temps staying warm to mild. charlotte, north carolina are seeing a sense of normalcy in the last week -- over the police shooting of keith scott. at a city council meeting last night...
