((denise valdez)) >> 8 news now reporter katie boer has been tracking this story for several weeks and has an update on the meeting neighbors held last night... and was there for the blasting that occured this morning. ((katie boer)) that's right paul-- these blasts that have been occuring since late june -- and have recently become a weekly headache for neighbors--who are trying to file a class action law suit against the st problem is... since these blasts occur during the day--many homeowners still haven't even realized the damage that has been popping up. ((katie boer)) patricia mccarley spent the morning handing out flyers and talking to nearby neighbors who stopped by her protest signs adjacent to the blasting site. (( patricia: 04:08 let them know if their home's damaged that theres somewhere they can go -- somebody they can talk to :13 )) ((katie boer)) she first started protesting last company - wesco -- the company her attorney matthew callister says is responsible for hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. ((matthew: 37:28 ive probably had 20, 30 ask me if this is the result of earthquake damage :34 we have not had a sudden outrush of earthquakes in this immediate vicinity so its clearly the blasting :42 )) ((katie boer)) callister met with more nearby homeowners for the fifth time know they have damage to their home. (( matthew: 39:51 theres a large number of homeowners who are not aware because they're not here during the days when the blasting goes off :56 they need to contact us so we can include them in the litegation and make sure that their home owner rights are protected :40:01 )) ((katie boer)) but patricia says -- not everybody wants to speak up. ((patricia: 04:38 they're frustrated and they're angry and some of them are afraid. they're afraid to do anything because they're afraid if anybody says or does soething theyll lose part of the value of their house :48 and thats going to happen whether you say or do since then....the construction company has filed a motion to dismiss the homeowners lawsuit and continued with the blasting both today and last week. ((katie boer)) we have reached out to the construction company--wesco, numerous times--with no response. one of the many questions we have for them is "when will this blasting stop?" we spoke to one gentleman who said one of the construction crews on scene told him there will only be one or two more blasts--something we have not been able to confirm with the construction company. ((paul joncich)) >> katie...now that the construction company has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit -- what's next in litigation? ((katie boer)) >> well paul their attorney says they'll filed a counter says this is something that's impacting not just one or two but a large number of people but they need more people to sign a retainer to be included in that class action.... they expect their firrst court appearance in early october. ((denise valdez)) we're learning new information tonight... about the man who was shot and killed at l this comes on the same day his accused killer made his first court appearance. pedro garcia was denied bail today. he was arrested sunday after going into the starbucks near rainbow and warm springs... and killing 41- year- old aleksandr khutsishvili . according to a friend of the victim... khutsishvili was an immigrant from the country of georgia. that friend says he once worked as a longshoreman in long beach, california.... and said he was the kind of person who would step in to try and stop a robbery if he saw one. as for garcia... he's expected back in court on ((paul joncich)) it's video that made national news... showing a murder suspect escaping from a north las vegas jail. now we're learning that may have been a one-of-a-kind incident! in the video... 25- year- old alonso perez is able to break his handcuffs... climb through the ceiling... and steal a truck outside the jail to escape. he's now back in prison... but law enforcement officials around the country say they can't recall similar cases. police here in southern nevada equipment... and reminding officers to keep an eye on people in custody. metro police even re-enacted what it takes to break the hinge on handcuffs just like perez did... and says the lesson learned is people in custody should always be supervised./// ((denise valdez)) a dry lake bed in death valley national park is scarred with tire tracks tonight... and the damage could be visible for years. these are pictures from the national park service... showing the tire tracks on the area known as "playa racetrack." identified a driver suspected of taking the illegal joyride... but have yet to release their name. officials hope the driver will be criminally charged... because it's illegal to drive on the dry lake bed. in all... there's about 10- miles of tracks scarring the area./// ((paul joncich)) in a little more than two weeks... catherine cortez masto and joe heck will take part in a u-s senate debate hosted by 8 news now and univision. you have the chance to be a part of the debate... by candidates hoping to replace senator harry reid. just go to las vegas now dot com... or our 8 news now facebook page to submit your question... and you might just hear it when the two meet on october 14-th at seven p-m./// ((paul joncich)) union members are launching a boycott of trump companies... because of a dispute right here in las vegas. ((paul joncich)) a new way to get around while avoiding traffic. the regional transportation commission is launching their first ever bicycle rental program called "bike share." 8 news now reporter karen castro takes a closer look at how the program was made possible. ((rosario green - lives & works in downtown: i ride my bike every day.)) ((karen castro)) rosario green, uses his bike for transportation for work. he makes deliveries for a downtown las vegas sandwich shop. ((rosario green - lives & works in downtown: we do like 30 miles a day on our bikes so anytime between one to 30, you're gonna get a fla if he gets a flat, he now has another option on how to get around. the regional transportation commission is launching "bike share"... a bicycle rental program. a total of 21 stations, like this one, have been installed all over downtown las vegas. ((ron floth - bicycle and community coordinator, rtc: it's a way for folks to be able to get around the downtown area in a very convenient and fun way.)) ((karen castro)) the rtc received a one million dollar federal grant to purchase the equipment including 180 bikes. it will cost an estimated 600-thousand dollars a year to run the system. the program. ((ron floth - bicycle and community coordinator, rtc: the program is really designed to bridge that last mile gap so folks can come in on transit, grab a bike, and take a bicycle to their final destination.)) ((karen castro)) " bike share" is also expected to reduce congestion in the area, depending on the number of rentals. it cost 4 bucks for 30 minutes... 8 dollars for a day... and 20 bucks for a month. but bikes can only be rented out for 30 minutes at a time. riders who plan to keep them longer, need to re-check the bikes at the nearest si and community coordinator, rtc: folks will be able to walk up to a dock, check out a bike from one location and ride it to another and check back in.)) ((karen castro)) as for green, he's considering sparing his bike of the wear and tear.
