((christianne klein)) a north las vegas couple was indicted by a grand jury this week... for the death of a two- year- old child. nicholas anthony hopkins faces several charges... including murder and child abuse. child abuse, neglect, and endangerment. according to the clark county district attorney's office, the child was bruised from head to toe... and had broken ribs, second- degree burns, and several internal injuries when he died last november. hopkins' bail was set at one- million- dollars... and once she's arrested... onate's will be set at 100- thousand dollars./// ((christianne klein)) police need your help finding a man who may have been involved in a robbery on the las vegas strip. police say this happened in the 33- hundred block of south las vegas boulevard... which is in the area of the venetian and palazzo. police say a man went into a store and threatened to shoot an employee if he didn't get any money. no one was hurt... but the man did get away with some cash... and left in a taxi. if you know anything... call police or crimestoppers./// ((dave courvoisier)) a retrial is now delayed another year... for an ex- motorcycle gang leader involved in a deadly casino shootout back in 2011. conviction was overturned last december. in court today... a judge said lawyer scheduling forced the new trial to be delayed until august 2017. gonzalez was originally convicted of killing a hells angels boss at a sparks casino in 2011. gonzalez claims he was trying to protect a colleague who was nearly beaten to death./// ((dave courvoisier)) governor brian sandoval is speaking out against 'question one' on the ballot this november. today... the governor's spokesperson said sandoval is concerned the measure would unnecessarily he also doesn't think the background check initiative would actually keep guns out of the hands of criminals. this comes as the n-r-a launched a three- million- dollar t-v ad buy in the silver state... aimed at hillary clinton and her views on guns. the n-r-a says a clinton presidency would stack the supreme court with anti-gun justices who would overturn the second amendment. proponents of question one say they don't want to take guns away... they just don't want people to have guns who shouldn't have them./// ((christianne ki after getting stuck in a palm tree in a valley neighborhood. several fire crews helped in the rescue near rancho and oakey around 11 this morning. firefighters tell us the worker was strapped to the tree when a heavy set of fronds collapsed on him. luckily the tree trimmer was okay. in the past two years... two other local tree trimmers died in similar accidents./// ((dave courvoisier)) katie boer is in for tedd tonight... no monsoon threat....for now. chance of moisture returning to movement coming out of washington d.c. the drug enforcement administration announced it will not reduce restrictions on marijuana. ((christianne klein)) >> the decision comes in response to two petitions asking the d-e-a to reconsider the drug's "schedule one" classification. patrick walker is here to explain. ((patrick walker)) >> that schedule one classification puts marijuana in the same category as drugs like l-s-d... ecstacy... and heroin. 25 states and the district of columbia have legalized marijuana in some form. nevada... of course... is one of them. medical marijuana has been legal here since 2000... but the first dispensaries didn't open until last year. that's a decade and a half later. now... ballot question 2 -- if approved -- would legalize up to an ounce of recreational marijuana. although the d-e-a largely stays away from shutting down state-licensed marijuana operations accross the country right now - it does prohibit pot federally-based services... like banking and contract enforcement. but with the federal policy of letting the states regulate an illegal industry... state senator tick segerblom... a prominant figure behind the effort to legalize marijuana in nevada... was caught off guard by the d-e-a's decision. ((karen castro)) it's day one of the harvest season at the pahrump valley winery. but there's a long road ahead wine bottle. ((gretchen loken co-owner, pahrump valley winery: right now these grapes are ripped and ready for harvest. )) ((karen castro)) crews have been up since the early morning hours hand picking grapes that will be used to make zinfandel wine. employees and volunteers have their work cut out for them. the vineyard has more than 850 plants some are over 20 years old. only the best of the best grapes make it into these bins. ((gretchen loken co-owner, pahrump valley winery: then we stick them on a bin where we fill up the bins and then off we go to process them.)) ((karen castro)) the bins are taken to what is called the "barrel room." ((gretchen loken happens. )) ((karen castro)) the grapes are placed in a de-stemming machine and eventually put in another bin where they stay for up to two weeks fermenting. eventually, another machine is used to drain the juice out of the grapes. ((gretchen loken co-owner, pahrump valley winery: so it's gonna strain all the skins and the seeds off so you get the wine 24:08 the wine is then going to stay in the barrel. )) ((karen castro)) the wine will be checked for taste every three to four months this season's zinfandel wine will be ready to drink it 2018. ((dave courvoisier)) nasa has just announced plans for eventual missions to the moon and mars, but for humans to survive long term missions in space, they will need safe and secure habitats. (( )) ((george knapp)) america's ambitious lunar missions are a distant memory. the space shuttle era has likewise ended. but it looks like nasa is starting to think big again. this week, the space agency announced the next step in what it hopes will be a human presence on mars. six companies were chosen to develop prototypes for long range missions in space. more specifically, how to design habitats that will allow humans to live in giants lockheed and boeing...but also named-- bigelow aerospace--whose plant in north las vegas built an expandable spacecraft that is currently attached to the i.s.s. as part of a two year mission. nasa will dole out 65 million dollars so the 6 companies can come up with the best, safest habitats that will first be used on or around the moon in the 2020's before the next big step to the red planet. the bigelow team has 24 months to come up with a ds (music--elvis presley singing)) ((george knapp)) next week will mark the 39th year since the king of rock and roll died. elvis presley's immense influence is still felt here in las vegas, and the cause of his death is still debated. drug use certainly played a part in his demise at age 42 but now, a new analysis of the medical evidence suggests the king had deeper, we're posting the full report on our website so fans can read it for themselves. a trial date has been set for las vegas sports gambler bill walters, accused of conspiring with others in a multi-million dollar insider trading scheme. when the indictment was announced a few months ago, the unofficial consensus in town was that walters' goose was cooked and maybe he should cut a plea legal sources say the walters team is not only ready to go, but wishes the trial could start sooner than next march. they should sell tickets to that one. and finally, are you following the saga of the monkey that was smuggled aboard a las vegas bound airliner? turns out, this was no ordinary stowaway primate. its owner claims, it's a service monkey. highly -trained, whose job is to provide emotional support. i know what you're thinking who knew there were service monkeys? the answer, of course, is bart simpson, whose animated tv series is the wellspring from which all human wisdom flows.
