I talked with a Police Officer who actually told me hes often. Given how exposed pedestrians are and how crowded it can get on strip sidewalks. Today county commissioners discussed the idea of closing off part of las vegas boulevard to traffic and turning it into a pedestrian mall. Similar to bourbon street in new orleans and times square in new york. But strip properties are against the idea. A different proposal is to build more pedestrian bridges. Commisioner Steve Sisolak said it would make no sense to do both. Steve Sisolak clark co. Commissioner were going to be asked to spend 15 milion dollars to build two new bridges on las vegas boulevard which clearly we dont want to do if were going to close em off and make it a pedestrian mall. It will eliminate the need for doing that sort of thing. Instead, they will move forward with the process of building two new bridges over las vegas boulevard. One would go between the bellagio and paris. The other just north of the mgm grand. Make it easier for people to get across the strip, and eliminate traffic backups while motorists wait for pedestrians to clear the crosswalk. Together, the bridges, that will include elevators and escalators, will cost about 15 million dollars.
