((paul joncich)) according to national surveys, america's surveys, america's favorite super bowl party food is: pizza and chicken wings. but you need more than that for a successful super bowl party. today southern nevadans were stocking up on the essentials. ((mauricio marin)) hundreds came out to finicum's funeral today at this church behind me. strong words from the family. defending their father's action. saying he did nothing wrong but stand up for liberty. many of the occupation supporters from all around the country came out to the funeral. as they carried out finicum's casket from the funeral service...it was followed by a procession. nevada rancher cliven bundy was among those in attendance. he had his own standoff with the federal government back in 20-14 over unpaid grazing fees. in this latest case---involving bundy's son's in oregon...finicum 's adult children say he thought long and hard before working to be along and they say their father was defending the constiution but not at gun point. ((thara tenney/finicum's daughter: "many believed while on the refuge in oregon he spent time covered up by a blue tarp defending that outpost at gunpoint that is a false narrative. i was there.")) authorities say 54 year old finicum was reaching for a weapon during the confrontation when they tried pulling him over and others involved in the oregon occupation. the son's of cliven bundy involved in the oregon incident have been indicted on several charges including conspiracy. ((mauricio marin)) finicum's family say he had his hands up and denounced the deadly use of force authorities used against him. they plan to keep fighting for constiutional rights and working to see the feds don't overstep their authority. reporting live...mauricio marin. 8 news now./// ((paula francis)) mauricio...how was the feeling like out there? any hostility? large presence by local sheriff peaceful. some supporters carried around american flags and rallied around for finicum. but overall---we didn't see any incidents. back to you./// ((dave courvoisier)) > governor brian sandoval is taking steps to address the state's teacher shortage. today... he signed an emergency regulation... allowing the state to issue temporary teaching credentials good for up to a year... to hire teachers who are working on getting fully licensed in nevada. patrick walker is live in the newsroom with how this will help the clark county school district. ((patrick walker)) dave... the big takeaway here is that the clark county school district can hire teachers who are certified in other states and want to work here. they can get into a classroom and teach... while working on meeting nevada-specific credentials required by the state's board of education. right now... the district is 709 teachers short. statewide... the number is about one-thousand. but can be made permanent by lawmakers. the governor's office says this comes after a change in federal law that put federal funding in jeopardy if the state issued temporary teaching licenses. the clark county school district has about 18- thousand teachers... and anywhere from 7-9 percent leave the district annually... which is anywhere from 13-hundred to 16-hundred teachers. last year... the school district hired 2- thousand teachers... and interim human resources director michael gentry says this helps the district get a jump on having teachers in every classroom come next school year. ((michael gentry/interim chief hr officer: "we currently have 709 openings right now, so my plan is simply to find 2,700 great teachers and hire them as fast as possible.")) ((patrick walker)) gentry says about 3/4 of the candidates the district looked at last year were from out- of-state. but the program also applies to qualified people living in the state as well... who meet most of the requirements to teach but are lacking final certification. ((patrick walker)) with today's declaration... the school district says they can immediately begin puting new... pre- screened teachers in classrooms. dave... school district have any candidates already under consideration? ((patrick walker)) the human resources director says there are 30 people ready to be hired as soon as next week. they will also re-visit a pool of about 400 people that were pre- screened last year... to see if any are still interested in teaching here. /// ((dave courvoisier)) > a former president making a stop in las vegas.
