"i do think this is effective. on the street, in an area that brings attention. it's not a great thing to have signs that are directing violence. i think that's anger speaking. but i think their actions are out of love and maybe desperation," says shawn greene, from chicago, illinois support of the demonstration. ((mauricio marin)) >> it's all part of american medical response's "home for the holidays" project. reporter brittany edney joins us now from the newsroom with more. brittany. ((brittany edney)) area organizers told me this project started in the early 80's and they plan to keep this annual tradition, going. it originally started off with transporting a few patients and over the years, it's grown into dozens. free of charge. and also transports them back after a day of festivities. this year, 28 patients throughout the valley were helped home and then back to their care facility. a-m-r says it's all about sharing and spreading happiness during the holiday season. [disc-1] 18:45 the counselor can either set up ae one-on-one or they can just write up a referral and send it over to us. [disc-1]28.11 teachers aren't prepared to be social workers. they can't go into the homes and help the kids. but we can. we make sure the kids are prepared to come to school and learn and when they're prepared not only are they learning and other siblings are learning but they're not being disruptive in class so all the kids learn. there is no cost to the family when boys town steps in to help , but sometimes, there is reluctance.
