out the home---deputies found several animals locked living in bedrooms where they had been urinating and defecating on the walls and carpet. and the air quality inside of the bedrooms was horrific according to deputies. a number of cats were found. one of them being a canadian siberian lynx hybrid---which is a species that doesn't require a permit in nye county. but another cat was found---a fennec fox...and that's in violation of nevada code. overall---an unbelievable find---2 african lion. plus a bengal tiger which is an endangered species and a black panther. the animals were living with freeman at the time. she wasn't arrested but cited for animal cruelty. ((mauricio marin)) >> as for the animals--- authorities are working to place them at an u-s-d-a approved sanctuary. it's important to note the owners did have a special conditions animal permit. that permit will now be reviewed on whether they should be allowed to keep it or not with the nye board of county commissioners. dave?/// awaiting extradition to houston where she faces charges for child endangerment. investigators say 34-year-old trisha meyer let exotic animals roam her home, with a juvenile. animal control found 3 tiger cubs in the backyard .. contained only by a 4-foot fence. there were also 8 monkeys... a skunk.. and a fox inside her home. the animals have since been taken into protective custody. meyer will be extradited to houston to face charges./// ((denise valdez)) a horrific scene on the west side f and listen to this... the suspect involved in the crash ran away minutes after his car collided with a pick up truck. police responded to the corner of torrey pines and flamingo earlier this evening. shakala alvaranga is live on scene with the details. shakala? ((shakala alvaranga)) denise, witnesses say it sounded like an explosion ... the impact, so great, that it crushed both of these cars behind me. a ford mustang was driving control, sliding across the center median, and then crashing into a pick up truck. police say speed may have played a role in the deadly crash. the female passenger in that mustang died on scene. the driver, however, walked away... (( the driver of the mustang exited the vehicle and initially was attending to the passenger in that mustang, but then began to walk around, witnesses tried to stop and talk to him and ultimately he walked away from the scene.)) that the driver was impaired. he is described as a hispanic male. he was wearing a black jacket with gray sweats. he has short black hair and his face is bloody. ((denise valdez)) >> tonight, 8 news now anchor paul joncich explains the dangers of carfentanil (car-fen-ten-all) and how heroin users don't know what hit them... until it's too late. responsible for at least eight deaths and dozens of overdoses. ((quick nat)) here in clark county, coroner john fudenberg has already seen two carfentanil deaths and is bracing himself for more. ((11:39:50 john fudenberg/clark county coroner: "i don't know if there is a drug stronger than carfentanil right now.")) ((11:36:36 fudenberg: "i time before it reaches the southwest and we're preparing for it.")) ((paul joncich)) heroin is already one of the deadliest drugs in the desert. killing approximately 400 southern nevadans each year. experts say more people are using heroin because it's a cheaper alternative to opioid pain meds. ((paul joncich)) when users take heroin that's cut with carfentanil, narcan, the drug first responders have successfully been administering to save overdose victims, is suddenly not powerful enough. mathew lee/wheeling hospital: " it used to be we could give one dose of narcan, sometimes two doses and that would be enough. but with this stronger narcotic, it can take 4-10 or even more doses of narcan.")) ((paul joncich)) in the hardest hit areas of the country, where dozens of overdoses are happening in clusters, paramedics are running out of life saving narcan. here in nevada, authorities have a strategy in place to avoid a new onslaught of overdoses due to carfentanil. coroner john fudenberg will be among the know when it hits.
