You are listening Jim Dan of the rescue this is k k p Cupertino and we're broadcasting from studio right here in San Jose and we're playing rhythm and blues right right now. And you just heard some that was. Dr baby the $5.00 with Andre Williams. The Wallflower otherwise known as Roll with me Henry or and it was a James and the peaches with Richard Berry and we started out with Baker Jim Downey to the rescue and. I'm going to write innocent. I was looking over own a list of songs and I noticed something I had. Kind of a play you know there were so many artists in the fifty's and they kind of played on each other with their names and so I thought because I need to you know just feature a few of those. Groups like the Midnighters I'm a star of the Midnighters And then there's another group came up and they tried to cash in on the bed which came for the royals and any pulled a humbug the midnight and then. Raise came up with this huge hit so away it's another group to remember seeing this group the silhouettes came out we get a job. And both did Lee had some great sides and then some guy named Bo Dudley gave out a so we're going to play a few of those and you know kind of go over it and it's just one of those thing I spotted it I thought well let's let's highlight that soul let's start with the bit dieters and this is well one of their many Has this is probably one of their later hits. Which he which he tetchy and Ballard and the bit dieters and here we go and I hope you enjoy it. Let's. Live. Live live. There's Are you listening to him Dan the rescuer and that was a real genius version of the twist which I saw in the San Jose Civic Auditorium many many years ago it was the night Ingomar Johansen knocked out Floyd Patterson That's all I remember and head down to midnight as are in town and they came up with this song and they played it twice which is very unusual to have them repeat a song and the dance they did was completely different than the dance that Chubby Checker. Inspired a few years later and you did hear a little Chubby Checker and I give him a. I have to say you know he's he did pretty well look but. You know it was a cover of a really great song by a relative in a bed and he took his name Chubby Checker is when you think about it and I don't have the side but he sounds a little like Fats Domino so chubby checkers Fats Domino So we did hear from Fats Domino and that was a little Mary. He did for his wife Mary and we had to before that shotgun rider was bowed Dudley and he took his name I think bode did Lee You might think so who do you love we heard that one and. The silhouettes had a big hit called Get a job and they took the name from the. Rays which did silhouettes on the shade which is a huge hit and by the way I did see the silhouettes years and years ago at the Veterans song in Redwood City and. I've said this before but they came in all apologetic and they said guess what our band is still in Reno Nevada. This is we're going to put the show on and they did it all on Capello and it was fantastic I mean that was a great group even though they didn't have too many hits elevator rater Yeah but you know I'll never forget that night because I thought oh my god no band you know not but they were just great and you know wanted to my knowledge they never recorded. That music we had the archipelagos to raise it not one you know they you know so anyhow then we started out with well we had any pulled a humbug and that was the midnights. Kind of playing on the big nighters and of course another any zone and they thought they had you know a score and I guess they sold a few of those here on the west coast Yeah. We did start out with the real Midnighters Pac Bell or switching which had so many great hits I just picked one for a solo Anyhow I'm going to shift gears and I'm going to go to. The ladies of rhythm and blues and so. I'm going to play a few of those and I'm going to start out with and Cole and her great great song Easy easy baby so let's listen to her and call here I'd take care you pay the gym today the rescue show with the rhythm Dr Kirby go. Od same. At least. Listening to the rescue with yours truly the rhythm doctor to live a clock playing rhythm and blues the kind of stuff you're going to hear on the oldies. Back in this same spot in 2 weeks right next week without America that's where I am same station 6 pm tonight and then the same time. On the 3rd Saturday take your break. So that will be America will be hype and you know asking you to supporters and all that good stuff so I hope you do we appreciate the calls and. The support that we get when we get quite a bit well you just heard a bunch of songs from. The ladies the rhythm and blues some of them and that's just as moa sample and that was. How dog and that was Little Esther and she was. Covering you know Big Mama for the song. Presley cover to cover girl made a big hit so. Little Esther Wow Well young man that was of course Ruthie Brown and one of my. Big favorites of the fifty's. Adams did shake a hand a very good version and we often play a little Richard's version but this she had the original version that hit. A different Adams. With the Johnny Otis band it loop de loop I remember seeing that. They were both good legged Fayad Mary today at age what young lady was not good looking. Lou Reed before that. And she had another good looking way your love keep so working on me and Cole before that easy easy baby I have I don't know and I mean I remember the song but I don't know what she looked like I did and I've never seen it. But anyhow so those are just some of the ladies of rhythm and blues. And. So anyhow. The next set here I'm going to be playing. Songs that. By artists who have worked in different groups so I fact the 1st one has actually worked in 2 different groups and then he was on his own and had a lot of heads and his name was glad big fatter and when he was in it he was the one of the big lead singers on the dominoes and he went into the Drifters as really you know some of the best Drifters songs or hey are Clyde McPhatter and he got drafted in the Army. And. So when he came back he was on a solo and so we're going to listen to that and I'll explain it all when we get on but you're going to hear from the lamplighters and then his own Thurston Harris and Richard Berry and then the flares and you know so anyhow here we go with. Mercy Mercy Baby Baby. To. Cupertino. Please please come back don't take the train. Please don't don't leave me don't. Have a whole middle. Of a cold. Please. Do. Please please come don't think. Please don't kill
