take what they wanted from their house. police are calling this case complicated, patti. >> reporter: for a lot of reasons. starting with the primary victim a widow possibly in her 70s. she answered a knock on her door this afternoon only to have three men push their way inside. around 3:15 this afternoon a boy ran out of this house on via doble and banged in a neighbor's door. that neighbor happened to be a state senator. >> a young man who was visiting his grandmother next door was very excited and told me he had just been robbed. >> reporter: he soon learned the boy who he estimated to be around 12 years old had been taped up along with his grandmother. while armed robbers took a safe from their home. the boy managed to escape shortly after the men left the home. >> they had taped him up, he and his grandmother. he was very upset. he had run over here because they had taken his home. >> reporter: the robbery in the middle of day came to a shock to neighbors who say they will not be answering the door anymore. according to police all three suspects are hispanic males. suspect one between 20 and 30 year old he wore a red shirt. suspect two around 19 years old he also wore a red shirt. suspect three had short buzz hair with a birthmark above his eye, he wore a light blue shirt. a crime like this was committed right next door. >> it was the most beautiful sunday. very quiet neighborhood. these things don't happen here. >> reporter: police are asking for help in locating the suspects at last check there were still no arrests. live in concord, patti lee, ktvu channel 2 news. new developments tonight after friday's b.a.r.t. trail derailment. service is now back on track. just in time for the morning commute. and they're still trying to figure out exactly what caused that train to go off the tracks between concord and pleasanthill. as the investigation continues the trains they are now rolling again. allie rasmus shows just what it took to restore service. >> reporter: you could hear the hum of b.a.r.t. trains at the con card station this morning. the first san francisco bound train pulled in at 8:07. service was back online after friday's train derailment shut down the train station. >> very happy it's back up today. it's not that hard for me to get to pleasant hill from here but it's much more convenient. >> reporter: trains lifted up and hauled away jackknifed b.a.r.t. cars. then they brought in two 40- foot sections of tracks to make repairs. from the platform you could see the blackened unrepaired metal. some of the derailment was used to divert tracks. the passenger trains were much better. crews finished inspections and checks then did test runs with empty trains before resuming passenger service. >> our message to passengers is we want to thank them for their patient. we know it's a big inconvenience for people but break downs are inevitable. if you drive a car it's going to break down sometime. if you have a train system, things are going to go wrong. >> it's a manmade system and there are going to be flaws. but i think that a little more attention could be given to detail. >> reporter: investigators at the public utilities commission and b.a.r.t. safety department will be looking at all the details in the investigation. tom smith was killed by another officer while they searched an apartment in dublin. the san francisco chronicle obtained a strongly worded bulletin. he suggested that few individuals inside and outside b.a.r.t. were undermining efforts to improve the reputation of the b.a.r.t. police force. a public memorial tomorrow will honor two highway patrol officers 33-year-old juan gonzalez and 34-year-old brian law. they died last monday in a crash on highway 99 in fresno county. both men spent time on duty here in the bay area. thousands are expected to attend the service including governor jerry brown and police officers from all over the bay area. the memorial takes place tomorrow at fresno state university. a redwood city girl faces drunk driving charges after an accident with eight teenagers in a car. the car she was driving crashed into a retaining wall early this morning on jefferson avenue and ruby street. one of the male passengers was taken to the hospital but his injuries were nonthreatening. the others were treated on the scene. that teenager was booked into the juvenile center. now to an early taste of spring since we've had very little winter weather. many people enjoyed the sun this afternoon. this is the scene at lake merit as people enjoyed the netflix and comcast seal the deal to give comcast customers a better netflix experience. the two companies issued a joint statement today saying their accomplishing a more district connection for this. that's a storm coming this way. set too come into the region on wednesday. the time line here on wednesday. the heaviest rain expected the afternoon and evening commute. winds do pick up as well. thursday we have scattered showers out there but for the most part a break out there. friday a stronger storm, winds possibly some thunderstorms as well. and then into saturday showers will be likely. in terms of storm totals you can see the bulk of the action up in the coastal hills. these are storm totals through saturday. could be topping 4-inches of rain. the central portions of the bay over an inch to 2-1/2 inches and for the south bay over an inch to about an inch and a half. those numbers will be changing quite a bit over the next few days. that's what we're thinking right now. at least for the forecast for tomorrow. it is dry out there. lots of clouds on tuesday. for the wednesday morning commute. probably just some clouds out there. but look what happens the rainfall rates do pick up and the chance of thunderstorms at least you can see the forecast model bright colors do reflect a chance out there. forecast highs for tomorrow. upper 50s to the upper 60s. warmest locations take what they wanted from their house. police are calling this case complicated, patti. >> reporter: for a lot of reasons. starting with the primary victim a widow possibly in her 70s. she answered a knock on her door this afternoon only to have three men push their way inside. around 3:15 this afternoon a boy ran out of this house on via doble and banged in a neighbor's door. that neighbor happened to be a state senator. >> a young man who was visiting his grandmother next door was very excited and told me he had just been robbed. >> reporter: he soon learned the boy who he estimated to be around 12 years old had been taped up along with his grandmother. while armed robbers took a safe from their home. the boy managed to escape shortly after the men left the home. >> they had taped him up, he and his grandmother. he was very upset. he had run over here because they had taken his home. >> reporter: the robbery in the middle of day came to a shock to neighbors who say they will not be answering the door anymore. according to police all three suspects are hispanic males. suspect one between 20 and 30 year old he wore a red shirt. suspect two around 19 years old he also wore a red shirt. suspect three had short buzz hair with a birthmark above his eye, he wore a light blue shirt. a crime like this was committed right next door. >> it was the most beautiful sunday. very quiet neighborhood. these things don't happen here. >> reporter: police are asking for help in locating the suspects at last check there were still no arrests. live in concord, patti lee, ktvu channel 2 news. new developments tonight after friday's b.a.r.t. trail derailment. service is now back on track. just in time for the morning commute. and they're still trying to figure out exactly what caused that train to go off the tracks between concord and pleasanthill. as the investigation continues the trains they are now rolling again. allie rasmus shows just what it took to restore service. >> reporter: you could hear the hum of b.a.r.t. trains at the con card station this morning. the first san francisco bound train pulled in at 8:07. service was back online after friday's train derailment shut down the train station. >> very happy it's back up today. it's not that hard for me to get to pleasant hill from here but it's much more convenient. >> reporter: trains lifted up and hauled away jackknifed b.a.r.t. cars. then they brought in two 40- foot sections of tracks to make repairs. from the platform you could see the blackened unrepaired metal. some of the derailment was used to divert tracks. the passenger trains were much better. crews finished inspections and checks then did test runs with empty trains before resuming passenger service. >> our message to passengers is we want to thank them for their patient. we know it's a big inconvenience for people but break downs are inevitable. if you drive a car it's going to break down sometime. if you have a train system, things are going to go wrong. >> it's a manmade system and there are going to be flaws. but i think that a little more attention could be given to detail. >> reporter: investigators at the public utilities commission and b.a.r.t. safety department will be looking at all the details in the investigation. tom smith was killed by another officer while they searched an apartment in dublin. the san francisco chronicle obtained a strongly worded bulletin. he suggested that few individuals inside and outside b.a.r.t. were undermining efforts to improve the reputation of the b.a.r.t. police force. a public memorial tomorrow will honor two highway patrol officers 33-year-old juan gonzalez and 34-year-old brian law. they died last monday in a crash on highway 99 in fresno county. both men spent time on duty here in the bay area. thousands are expected to attend the service including governor jerry brown and police officers from all over the bay area. the memorial takes place tomorrow at fresno state university. a redwood city girl faces drunk driving charges after an accident with eight teenagers in a car. the car she was driving crashed into a retaining wall early this morning on jefferson avenue and ruby street. one of the male passengers was taken to the hospital but his injuries were nonthreatening. the others were treated on the scene. that teenager was booked into the juvenile center. now to an early taste of spring since we've had very little winter weather. many people enjoyed the sun this afternoon. this is the scene at lake merit as people enjoyed the unseasonably warm weather. that is about to change. >> and we have the time line of not one but two storms headed this way. >> this warm weekend will seem like a distant memory out there. right now mostly clear skies. take a look at the afternoon. lots of 60s and some 70s. patchy fog right now hanging out near parts of the san mateo coastline. also filling monterey bay. here's a big change developing out in the pacific. the storms developing and lining up and this will be the key source of us. some more storms developing later in the week. especially by wednesday and later in the week by friday. here's the projected storm track storm one. that is scheduled for wednesday. and storm two is set to come into the region by friday. the wednesday rainstorm line. we will let you know when will benefit from the business license holiday. the city is taking an initial hit. so far $30,000 is foregone because of the licensing holiday. >> there's a lot of money going into san francisco, california children are suffering from a mysterious illness that has left them with polio like symptoms. stanford and ucla says the children became ill with the infections between august of 2012 and july of last year. the children suffered unexplained par -- paralysis in one or both legs. all of the children had been vaccinated against polio. for many bay area baby boomers the affordable care act is just what the doctor ordered. the associated press reports that people aged 65 to 64 are the most enrolled. the new law benefits older americans because insurance cannot be denied because of american dream. in the first year and a half of recreational marijuana sales, the state of colorado will collect billions of the dollars. governors from other states said today they're not ready to push for laws beyond what they have now. >> i don't think tax revenue should have anything to do with the discussion of whether you legalize marijuana. >> we started looking at adjusting the penalty for criminal use of marijuana. and what we've seen is our prison populations have gone down. >> reporter: colorado plans to spend much of that tax revenue on programs for drug prevention and treatment of substance abuse. more details now on the views of california's governor on recreational act. governor brown acknowledged the legalization measure would likely be on the ballot here at some point. an interesting side note here, colorado girl scouts are not allowed to sell cookies in front of legitimate marijuana dispensaries. the girls scouts of colorado issued a statement saying they don't think that pot clubs are a proper place to sell girl scout cookies. a bay area scout created a big buzz because of her cookie sales outside of a pot dispensary. she set up shop and sold 136 boxes in area cities are seeing such a large influx of asian immigrants than asians now make up a majority. >> it's a demographic shift of historic proportion. >> 10 years ago we received far more immigrants from latin america than from asian. we're now receiving three times more asians than we do hispanics. >> reporter: more than 100,000 asians are pouring into california each year. >> reporter: there's more china towns where chinese immigrants settled. now they're spreading out. and the old stereo type of working in dry cleaners or chinese restaurants have been shattered. most of the chinese immigrants are educated. >> much more highly edge cased -- highly educated and that reflects what is driving them here. jobs in high tech and silican valley. >> reporter: santa clara shot up from 18% to 38%. milpitas from 33 to 62%. high tech asian immigrants are even spreading beyond to places like san ramon where the asian population has jumped from just 9% to 35%. but nothing compares to cupertino where a whopping 63% of the population almost 2/3 is asian. the home of apple and sea gate is also home to the biggest demographic shift of any city in california. >> it's like a trend, enriching. >> reporter: if the current immigration trend continues indians from asian could soon overtake chinese as the largest immigrant community in california. it is official, the bay area's netflix and comcast seal the deal to give comcast customers a better netflix experience. the two companies issued a joint statement today saying their accomplishing a more district connection for faster higher quality netflix streaming. federal regulars are expected to scrutinize the deal to see how it will impact competition between cable and internet providers. tech experts are warning people to update any apple ios software to eliminate what they call a scary security flaw. the problem involves one extra line of code that allows access to secure parts of a transmission. that means a savvy hacker could see things like your e-mail, bank transactions or flirty conversations on dating sites if they wanted to. the security flaw also exists on mac's ios. but it's not ready yet. a young bay area cancer patient with a super hero personality is celebrating a big milestone tomorrow. 12-year-old jacob goters calls himself the leukemia slayier on his web page. tomorrow is his last day of chemotherapy by iv in palo alto. he is organizing a celebration and plans to hand out gifts to other kids with cancer at the hospital. in true superhero fashion he's also raised $11,000 through month and it felt like summer out there with warm temperatures and fog making a come back coast side. keeping the temperatures cooler at the coast side. here's a change we're waiting for later in the that's scheduled to move into the region that will be on friday. here's the over all weather pattern early tomorrow morning. some patchy fog. probably not as widespread as this morning. coolest locations in the upper 30s for santa rosa, napa, san francisco 48 and san jose 42 degrees. tomorrow not a big change from today. skies becoming partly cloudy. we thicken up the clouds in advance of this. that's a storm coming this way. set too come into the region on wednesday. the time line here on wednesday. the heaviest rain expected the afternoon and evening commute. winds do pick up as well. thursday we have scattered showers out there but for the most part a break out there. friday a stronger storm, winds possibly some thunderstorms as well. and then into saturday showers will be likely. in terms of storm totals you can see the bulk of the action up in the coastal hills. these are storm totals through saturday. could be topping 4-inches of rain. the central portions of the bay over an inch to 2-1/2 inches and for the south bay over an inch to about an inch and a half. those numbers will be changing quite a bit over the next few days. that's what we're thinking right now. at least for the forecast for tomorrow. it is dry out there. lots of clouds on tuesday. for the wednesday morning commute. probably just some clouds out there. but look what happens the rainfall rates do pick up and the chance of thunderstorms at least you can see the forecast model bright colors do reflect a chance out there. forecast highs for tomorrow. upper 50s to the upper 60s. warmest locations in the lower 70s. look ahead your five day forecast more clouds on tuesday. storm one on wednesday, chance of a shower. that's our break day on thursday. more rain and wind on friday. by the weekend
