Its an update to the university of californias Sexual Violence policy. Well te tell you why some student victims say that its not going far enough. So whats happening to safeway now that its been sold. You can [ ma the university of california is taking new steps against Sexual Violence on campus in a new policy unveiled today. This as it faces a pair of lawsuits from dozens of current and former students who say they were victims. Ktvus Ken Pritchett is live with how one victim says the policy is part of an investigation but victims say it does not go far enough. Reporter victims say that this policy change does answer some of their concerns but is not enough for victims. They told me it was nothing they could do. Because it did not happen physically on their campus. Reporter butler is one of 21 students who two weeks ago filed a pair of criminal lawsuits saying their Sexual Assault complaints were ignored by the university. Today they announced a new policy that offers more protection for victims and education for students and staff. Uc president napolitano said in a statement we have no toll tolerance for these crimes. I also found that it was very good that they changed their policy around consent. No longer did you say no but did you say yes. Reporter but butler says the policy still does not give victims the right to appeal when the suspect is given a slap in the wrist. She says more than a written policy its what the university does to enforce that policy that concerns her and her fellow students in the lawsuit. I have a stake to make sure that the university handles this correctly because as a survivor, it always works in the assault itself. Reporter butler says this policy change does not do anything to change the momentum of a policy going forward. She says its too early in the process to know when these two lawsuits can be resolved. In berkeley, Ken Pritchett, ktvu news. The mother of a 15yearold girl from the south bay who killed hearse announced she is pushing for a new law. She is hoping to change the way young people the names of the three teenage boys punished in connection with the case have never been made public. We believe that if the identity of the sexual offenders and their sentence is exposed, it would deter future incidents and put the community on alert. The bill is named audreys law and would also stiffen penalties for cyber bullying. The legislation is being sponsored by state senator jim beal. Continuing coverage now of a major merger between safeway. The city will have to part way with the giant supermarket chain.
