Reports that the president was planning to pay a visit to fbi headquarters and the white house now says that is not expected to happen today. Meanwhile, the president is giving his explanation of why comey was fired and it sounds a bit different from what we heard from the white house. Abc Jonathan Karl has more. Reporter contradicting white house officials from the Vice President on down, President Trump said that he decided on his own to fire james comey. Hes a show boat, hes a grandstander. The fbi has been in turmoil. Reporter the president said he decided to fire comey well before the Deputy Attorney general weighed in. He made a recommendation, but regardless of recommendation, i was going to fire comey knowing there was no good time to do it. And, in fac, when i decided to just do it i said to myself, i said, you know, this russia thing with trump and russia is a made up story. Reporter in his letter firing comey, the president claimed the fbi director had told him he was not under investigation three separate times. Including during a dinner at the white house, a dinner he said he believes comey requested. He wanted to stay on as the fbi head and i said ill consider, well see what happens. But we had a very nice dinner. Reporter the president said comey assured him he was not under investigation in two separate phone calls. I said, if its possible, would you let me know am i under investigation. He said, youre not under investigation. I know that im not under investigation. Me, personally. Im not talking about campaigns or talking about anything else. Im not under investigation. Isnt it inappropriate for the president of the United States to ask the fbi director directly if hes under investigation . No, i dont believe it is. One of these conversations the president said happened at a dinner where the fbi director was asking to stay on as fbi director. Dont you see how that is a conflict of interest . The fbi director saying he wants to keep his job and the president is asking whether or not he is under investigation. I dont see that as a conflict of interest and neither do the many legal scholars and others that have been commenting on it for the last hour. No, i dont see that as an issue. That the president s decision to fire comey was triggered by the recommendation of Deputy Attorney general Rod Rosenstein. He provided strong leadership. An arkansas sheriffs deputy was shot and killed after stopping a vehicle. The suspect then barricaded himself inside a nearby House Holding several people hostage for hours when he surrendered, police found the bodies of two women inside that home. Their names havent yet been released but the Deputy Kevin Mainhart is being remembered for his 5year in Law Enforcement. A standoff lasting more than a day and a half is over in trenton, new jersey. Emily has details. Reporter almost 36 hours of pleading and finally came out. Police say he decided on his own to surrender, ending the standoff that left an innocent bystander dead and three officers hurt. The suspect surrendered peacefully, exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. Reporter the gunfire started early wednesday morning as police attempted to serve a warrant and he started shooting from inside the house. Officers hid behind cars, but a 56yearold man standing in the driveway was shot and killed. Three Police Officers also hurt, but released from the hospital. The sharks are not aggressive, but more than two dozens of those sharks and more than two dozen great whites have been spotted up and down the coast this week. You dont want to run into one of those. James Michael Boden is accused of killing the deputy during a traffic stop and then apparently barricaded himself inside a home where police say they found the bodies of two other women. He released a third woman he was apparently holding hostage before finally giving himself up. In another standoff, three louisiana Police Officers were shot after a violent car chase. The suspect allegedly rammed Police Vehicles during the chase and then barricaded himself inside his house. He then fired a shotgun loaded with bird shot. Trying to serve a warrant for Domestic Abuse battery. Their injuries are not life threatening and the suspect has been arrested. The second of four confederate monuments in new orleans have been taken down. Workers wearing helmets and bulletproof vests took down a statue of confederate president jefferson davis. Sunday demonstrators on both sides of the issue clashed during the removal of the first monument. The city has not laid out a detailed timeline for the last two statues to come down. It was not you made the decision before they came in the room. I was going to fire comey. No good time to do it, by the way. But regardless of recommendation, i was going to fire comey. Let me ask you about your termination letter to mr. Comey. I greatly appreciate you informing me on three separate occasions that im not under investigation. Why did you put that in there . He told me that. In regard to the Russian Investigation. I heard that from others. Did you ask him if you were under investigation . I asked him, yes. And comeys former deputy contradicted the white house as he made his first public appearance as acting fbi director. Andrew mccabe testified before the Senate Intelligence committee after the white house said that comey had been fired in part because he lost the confidence from the fbi agents and other employees. But mccabe said that was not the case. Is it accurate that the rank and file no longer supported director comey . No, sir. That is not accurate. Director comey enjoyed broad support within the fbi. And still does to this day. As to why meanwhile Rod Rosenstein said he is not quitting. Also denying reports that he threatened to resign after the white house initially pinned the decision to fire comey on him. The comey firing has created a very unlikely meeting of the minds. He had extensive experience as a Police Officer before joining the sheriffs office. He had a great work ethic. He was fair minded and fair with the people that he dealt with on a daily basis. He was also a great father and husband. As well as a great friend to all of us in Law Enforcement and the community. The suspects father says his son had an argument with his girlfriend and was emotionally mentally disturbed. Police in texas have released dramatic body cam video showing a man pointing his gun and shooting at the officer. Incredibly, the officer was not hurt in that scary confrontation. That took place last year. Just last week, the gunman was convicted of aggravated assault on a Police Officer and sentenced to 99 years in prison. Strong words for north korea as it makes claims on an assassination plot. The cia and south korea are behind that alleged plan. Called for president kim to be killed with a biochemical poison. The north has called the plot a declaration of war and will seek the extradition of anyone involved. Meanwhile here at home severe storms caused damage in central oklahoma yesterday afternoon.
