An inmate grabbed a deputys gun and opened fire. He injured that deputy, killed two bailiffs, retired Police Officers with long experience both as cops and as court officers. And later as he tried to escape he shot and injured a civilian. Officials say he did not seem to have a tendency toward violence even though the charges pending against him included kidnapping and sexual assault. Elizabeth hur has more. Hes cornered on the second floor. He has a gun with a hostage. Reporter gunfire at a michigan courthouse ending in tragedy. I stand here with a heavy heart today. What occurred at the courthouse. Reporter after an inmate allegedly opened fire inside the building. Shooter is down. Shooter is down. Reporter abc news learning from our station the inmate on his way to jail took a gun off a deputy and began shooting. Injuring several people and killing two bailiffs. He tried to leave through another door and thats when the other two bailiffs confronted him and thats when he was shot and killed. Reporter the sheriff revealing one of his deputies and other civilians at the courthouse are among the injured rushed to the hospital. The suspect in this incident is Larry Darnell gordon, and hes here on numerous felony charges. Reporter Governor Rick Snyder called the shooting horrible news. Saying his heart breaks for everyone affected. And now to dallas where president obama is heading to the city to speak at a Memorial Service for those five fallen officers. This, his 11th visit to a community impacted by mass shootings. Vice President Biden will also attend and former president george w. Bush will be speaking. After the service the president and the first lady will meet privately with the grieving families. The Dallas Police chief says he wants to make sure the gunman acted alone. Investigators are going through nearly 200 hours of body cam video to piece together the attack. The stockpile of bomb making materials found in the gunmans much home suggests he was planning a bigger attack, but Police Believe he fast tracked the plan. His parents gave a tearful interview saying he turned into a hermit after his military service. Were learning more about the shooting death of philando casti castile. The two occupants look like people that were involved in our robbery. He was just getting his license and registration, sir. The attorney saying in an interview he was pulled over in part because he revealed a resembled a robbery suspect. Police released these images from a recent robbery. The attorney claims the officer had reason to pull castile over and reason to use deadly force. This incident had nothing to do with race and everything to do with the presence of a gun. It was another somber night in dallas. More than 1,000 people gathered in front of Dallas City Hall for an emotional candlelight vigil last night with portraits of the fallen officers lined up along the platform. The head of the Transit Police said instead of tearing them apart, the attack has galvanized them. And Dallas Police chief david brown likened the officers to superman. Three of them will be laid to rest tomorrow. And police are poring over 200 hours of body cam video as they try to get to the bottom of how the attack unfolded. The parents of the attacker gave a tearful interview saying they didnt see it coming. They say he went from an extrovert to a hermit after his military service. The chief is vowing to make sure that the killer didnt have help. Were going to turn over every rock. Were going to follow every lead until its exhausted and until im satisfied that this was a lone person, and im going to make sure theres nobody out there who has something to do with this.
