>> kenneth moton in washington, d.c. by the way, donald trump is coming under fire this time for something he did not say. at his town hall meeting in new hampshire last night, he declined to correct an audience member who called president obama a muslim and said the president wasn't an american. trump also let the man slide he also let the man slide when he said muslims are a big problem in the u.s. instead, trump said he would look into claims of terrorist training camps on american soil. hillary clinton there tweeting that trump was just plain wrong for not denouncing the comments. now to chile where one resident says his city looks more like a war zone following the massive earthquake. evidence of the tsunami waves that came ashore is clear. many boats washed well inland. the 8.3 quake is blamed for at least a dozen deaths. chile's planning for major earthquakes is credited with keep hag number low and allowing more than 1 million people to evacuate coastal areas quickly. the death toll from two of the worst wildfires in california history stands at five. two more bodies were found yesterday in charred homes about 100 miles north of san francisco. two are still missing this morning. both fires have destroyed more than 800 homes. investigators are trying to figure out if the fire in the sierra nevada was sparked about a power line. the last victim of flooding in zion national park has been recovered. the body found yesterday was the seventh from a group of hikers who were trapped when floodwaters rose quickly in a canyon. all those who died were in their 50s. they entered the park monday before officials closed canyon areas due to flooding. a major security breach at a regional airport in texas. a waco airport spokesman says an obviously impaired man drove his car through a security gate and tried to steal an executive jet. the plane was empty at the time. pierre thomas with more. >> reporter: the incident began shortly after noon when a suspect crashed his vehicle through a gate and gained access to a secure area of the waco regional airport. police said the man, armed with a stick, was trying to steal a learjet. he attempted to remove the tire barriers from the aircraft and was banging on the doors, trying to get in. an officer saw the suspect and tased him several times, after the man refused to cooperate. >> yes, we need him out here for this. the guy has been tasered. >> reporter: law enforcement suggested this is not terrorism, because the suspect is known to local police, and has a history of mental illness. and they say they believe he may have been on narcotics. while no one got seriously hurt, this case does raise questions about the security of these smaller regional airports. the suspect was able to breach the perimeter and did get access to the plane. in the last few years, there have been a number of incidents of intruders getting into secure areas of airports, and that is a concern. pierre thomas, abc news, washington. american airlines was forced to ground flights due to a computer problem. american halted flights at three of its largest hubs, dallas, chicago and miami. flights resumed after about two hours. two weeks ago, united airlines was forced to ground flights over a computer issue. general motors has reached a settlement with the justice department to avoid criminal prosecution over the deadly ignition switch scandal. they admitted guilt and will pay $900 million in fines. some say the punishment is too lenient. abc's david kerley with more. >> reporter: after more than 100 deaths in cars with a defective ignition switch, tonight, gm criminally charged and admitting deceiving consumers. the ceo apologizing. >> we let those customers down in that situation. we didn't do our job. >> reporter: that defective switch meant cars could turn off on their own. and in a collision, some airbags would not deploy. gm knew the switch was bad for years, but did nothing. can you characterize the criminal behavior of general motors? home, a friend of the accused charleston church shooter arrested by the fbi. authorities have been investigating joey meeks for allegedly knowing about the attack and not informing the authorities. dylann roof, who is charged with killing nine black people, roof stayed with meek days before of the deadly attack. testimony resumes today at a military hearing to determine if sergeant bowe bergdahl should face court-martial. his commanders in afghanistan testified yesterday about the hardships their men faced during their search for bergdahl. he spent five years as a taliban captive before being freed in a prisoner exchange last year. he is charged with deserting his unit and other counts. his attorneys will present evidence and call witnesses today. it's unclear if he will testify. in the meantime, the chicago blackhawks star patrick kane is speaking out for the first time since become willing the subject of a sexual assault investigation. the star told reporters at blackhawks training camp yesterday he's done nothing wrong and expected to be cleared. sources say kane is accused of assaulting a woman at his home near buffalo last month. he has not been charged. support is growing around the world for the texas teenager arrested when his homemade clock was mistaken for a homemade bomb. the ninth grader sat down with "gma" to talk about his ordeal and his plans for the future.
