what they did was created this. can you see it's all built in the style of a 17th century sailing boat. >> that's pretty rad. >> a famous journey 17th known back in the day. to give you a quick history about who this guy was. he fled china and essentially ended 38 years of dutch rule in the island we know as taiwan, even had his own little kingdom. so this guy is pretty famous. so they built this boat in china, shipped it to taiwan because they wanted to then sail across straits, which at narrowest point was 18 miles. fortunately a little modern technology. they have life vests around their neck. >> a lot of deep blue sea and one little boat. was anybody following them. >> a support vessel or something like that. it went great. >> wow. >> until it didn't. once they got out there they came against 10 foot sharks. >> eventually they did have to get the coast guard involved. >> another vessel, i believe coast guard vessel came alongside and is throwing out a rope to these guys. at this point you can see it's a lot choppier on the ocean. >> they used old technology but could use new technology for a better day of weather. >> as they get the guy in the red, keep an eye on the guy in blue. that's the guy who is the history enthusiast. it was all basically his idea. >> i hope he doesn't lose his boat after all that. >> the bigger worry would be losing his life. as he's getting closer to the rescue boat, see how he tips over. he goes man overboard. >> no way. >> they try to throw a rescue ring. fortunately his -- just a few seconds look however away he drifted. >> further along in the video, they are able to throw out that rescue ring and bring him on board. the thing is, nick, it doesn't have the happiest of endings for the boat. it's taking on water and eventually makes its trip to the bottom of the sea. it could have seemed like a bummer but what this does from historical perspective demonstrate just how difficult it was even back then. >> it may look like mama elephant and calf are having fun in that little watering hole but they are not, my friends. because this in sri lanka are an agriculture well. they have been stuck in there. they are trying to climb out but unsuccessful. >> you're going to have to get heavy machinery. >> you're right, oli, they had to call in a digger to get mom and baby out. they are in the water, they can drink that. but look how muddy this has become. they have been standing there two days. that's nothing they want to drink. lucky for them, help is on the way. i feel so bad just looking at her thinking you've almost got it and she doesn't. >> such a beautiful beast. to see it struggle is sad. >> they call them jumbos in the story. these two jumbos get help by the digger. the digger is digging a ramp for mom and baby to climb out. enjust about an hour they are able to get mom and baby free. >> like you're hearing them make some kind of noises, shooting blanks because mom and baby are running away. not just walking but running away. >> the good news is once that ramp is done they are able to run away easily and they run away to live another day. cars have a difficult life. we really put them through a lot. any number of situations can put them in peril. like this guy here is racing his car. looks like a ton of fun. comes up to the corner here. >> the other car on the way around. >> he did bump into that subaru he was chasing down. watch it closely. you may have missed this. right there to the left in the stands you'll see a yellow flag waving. he said that was a debris flag. he noticed it, slowed down but not enough. it wasn't just a simple accident that car up ahead that you see throwing smoke was also dumping oil on the track. so kind of a hard incident to miss but he did get a bit of a bump on his bumper. no injuries there. these guys here really modified this honda civic, so much -- how much power this thing can produce, produce it to the limit. we found the limit. >> see it in slow motion as smoke starts to produce underneath the engine. then -- >> that is a crack under 11 pounds of boost pressure, in a honda civic that's a lot. >> i'm glad nobody was hurt. >> every day scenario of a pothole. here we are in new jersey. right out front of a tire shop. >> i'm going to say no. >> just so happens a pothole developed out front there. the guys behind the camera just are having a ball. >> they can't straddle that pothole. >> of course they could. >> some people can and some people do but others just don't see it because they are so close to the car in front of them. yeah, this pothole is swallowing cars up. >> that's really bad. >> after about two hours these guys claim the city did show up and attempted to fill the pothole. >> so much activity off the coast of monterey, california, these days. this video captured in the water is truly remarkable. there's a blue whale there. watch this pod of killer whales that i'm calling the boys of the ocean today. watch what they do. they start intimidating the whale. watch the way it reacts. it starts splashing in the water creating a commotion. before you know it, that whale ends up scurrying away. >> still a huge push frommist tail. cradle the whitewater. vanishing off. >> whale on whale crime. >> so it just took off. i love this shot at the end when the whales are like, where did it go. the video captured by a snorkeler off the coast of australia. it's a beautiful video with little sharky sharks. that shark is also probably why the school of fish decided to become a bait ball moving in a really quick circular motion. in fact, you see this shot right here. it looks like the shark is trying to get some food. but it is a defense tactic. >> by the fish. >> exactly. they move so fast
