The faa now investigating. 24 karat magic in the air and going for gold. Oneonone with oscar Host Jimmy Kimmel. How hes preparing for hollywoods biggest night. My Blood Pressure is through the roof. The past oscar hosts who inspire him. What hes saying about a meryl streep surprise and matt damon plus the four things you will not see happening on that oscar stage, revealed right here only on gma. No one does oscar like gma and if they say they do, theyre lying. And good morning, america. Welcome to wednesday, just four days away from the oscars and you said four things were not going to see. Yes, that we will reveal here this morning and you know jimmy kimmel did such a great job hosting the emmys this year. Walked out on stage like this, his first time hosting the oscars and looking for inspiration from his mom. Nobody more inspiring than your mom. Yes. Were looking forward to that exclusive. First to that extreme weather across the country. Record flooding in california and recordbreaking heat across much of the country and only person i know who can handle all that is tracking it all, ginger zee. I need flames like jimmy but flames have been hitting much of the united states, widespread warmth from new mexico to new york. More than 500 record highs broken in just the past week and its not over yet. Were in the grips of this warmth. Minneapolis, close to 57. They have hit 60 plus twice this february. That is the First Time Ever in recorded history and the warmth stays with the east. All the way through the end of the week, cincinnati, 71, 64 nyc and boston at 61. We have to get to my teammate, rob marciano, in a place breaking records all week, rob in chicago. Reporter good morning, ginger. A city you know very well. Quite unusual not to be wearing a heavy coat. In some cases going shirtless on the lakefront. Five days in a row of 60s and 70s. The High Temperature is 37 degrees. Go back a year ago, they were getting slammed with the snowstorm. That is what winter should feel like, not like what its been like the past few days on the waterfront shirts are off. It feels like summer. Today once the fog burns off well likely get to 70 today. Were going to see more warm episodes as our climate warms up. Some might say thats positive. Say that to met in july and august when were sweating. Thank you, rob. Now to Neal Karlinsky in san jose where they evacuated hundreds from the flooding. Good morning, neal. Reporter michael, good morning. Just imagine if this was the main street into your neighborhood. To give you a sense of how deep it is look at some of the cars parked along there. Quite a scene. Emergency crews on boats were taking out entire families and babies from here. More than 200 had to be rescued. The water is heavily polluted. Sewage and chemicals coming from a reservoir overflowing. Many throughout the area are at their peak because theres been so much rain from all the storms. Hopefully theyre through the worst. The weather is beginning to improve and the water here in this apartment complex is now we beginning to go down a bit. However, these people wont be able to move back in for days. Michael. We hope to have a fast recovery. All right, thank you, neal. Back to ginger for more on the western storm that is moving east. Ginger is bringing Severe Weather with it. It has a whole lot coming with it. Snow, Severe Weather, but the snow in the sierras something we didnt get to see. We saw pictures of the water, interstate 80, a pileup that happened many times this winter already. Roads are suffering in parts of california thanks to that moisture but things are starting to wind down and watches expire throughout day and early tomorrow but the winter storm watch from wyoming up through wisconsin is where we turn our attention now. You see right there, minneapolis, by friday morning, heavy snow. Flying. Were talking 6 plus inches in some spots then Severe Weather, you have that strong temperature gradient, very cold, very warm. You could have Severe Weather in parts of indiana and ohio. Much more to come on that, robin, back to you. In other words, stay tuned. Exactly. Now to president trumps crackdown on people in the u. S. Illegally. The administration issuing new guidelines on enforcing the law as they prepare to reveal a new version of the travel ban. Already getting reaction. Someone hanging this banner at the statue of liberty. Lets go to abcs senior White House Correspondent cecilia vega. Good morning, cecilia. Reporter robin, good morning to you. The white house this morning trying to ease fears saying these new immigration rules will not lead to mass deportations but for many immigrants and their families those words come too little too late. In states along the u. S. mexico border, swift reaction to the trump administrations sweeping new rules on immigration. From albuquerque. [ chanting ] reporter to oakland. Just victimizing part of our community. Reporter some immigrants in fear and this undocumented mother in los angeles in tears preparing her daughters in case she and her husband are deported. They have to stay here. They have to live here and they dont have to be worried for us. Reporter the new rules issued by the department of Homeland Security put the majority of the countrys 11 million undocumented immigrants at risk of deportation. Immigration and Border Patrol agents ordered to Deport Anyone convicted of any criminal offense. Under president obama the target was serious criminals. Now people charged but not convicted could be targeted too. As well as anyone an immigration officer deems a risk to Public Safety. The white house telling us, this is about enforcing laws already on the books. Is one of the goals here mass deportation . No. Is the white houses message today to undocumented people in this country whose only crime is being here illegally dont worry or youre on notice. The message from this white house and from the dhs is that those people who are in this country and pose a threat to our Public Safety or have committed a crime will be the first to go and we will be aggressively making sure that that occurs. What about the others who arent . Theyre watching this fearful right now. Cecilia, the president has said we have to look at this issue on a case holistic way. Reporter a promise donald trump campaigned on. We will end illegal immigration, deport every last criminal alien. Reporter supporters cheering the move. The republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee saying the plan takes the actions needed to help end the surge of illegal immigration at the southwest border. But this morning, opponents say the president has gone too far. Its outrageous. Its extreme. This is not the kind of policy we want. Reporter a lot of reaction coming in. New rules do not affect the more than 750,000 people who came to this country illegally as children. They are known as d. R. E. A. M. Ers. The white house for them says this is not a done deal, robin. They say the issue of d. R. E. A. M. Ers is not yet settled. As you know, cecilia, the secretary of state and Homeland Security are headed to mexico with talks with the mexican president and have much to discuss. Reporter yeah, they certainly do. A big agenda and the president will meet with tillerson here at the white house before he takes off later today. Certainly on that agenda with mexico new immigration rule, of course, theyre expected to talk about Border Security and likely trade, robin. All right, cecilia, thank you. George. Thank you. More with our legal analyst dan abrams and martha raddatz. Martha let me begin with you. Not a good time for general kelly and tillerson going down to mexico and taking in a lot of these deportees from other country. It will be very difficult, negotiations, george. Weve already heard Mexican Government say, no way theyre paying for the wall and taking in new people, its going to be a very, very difficult task and as you said the timing really couldnt be worse. Here at home, dan, the administration, much sounder legal ground than they were with the travel ban. Right, two totally different things. When it came to this executive order, the travel ban, the question was is it legal . Is it constitutional . And the courts have now weighed in and thats still being worked its way through and probably will be a new executive order, et cetera. This is about enforcement of the current laws and how those current laws are going to be enforced. And so the question here becomes less about what do the policies say and more about how are they executed . What do they do in trying to do that . And the real question whether local Police Departments and cities are going to cooperate with this new enforcement . Thats right because there are going to be some cities which say, if the administration insists on a major crackdown, which it sounds like theyre kind of saying, but then kind of not saying. They want to have the ability to do it. Right, the policy is very broad and then when sean spicer speaks he actually says, no, its actually very limited. But what will happen in some of these cities is the local police or the officials there will say, yeah, this is going to be widespread crackdown, were not going to be involved. Whats the remedy for that . Potentially withholding federal funds but they can do that meaning the feds have to come up with money to pay for these new agents. 10,000 plus new agents and judges, by the way, too, judges, as well, detention centers, et cetera, so there has to be funding for all of this coming from somewhere. Martha, on another front the administration the president gave his defense team 30 days to come up with a new strategy on isis that hits by the end of the weekend, monday or tuesday. By monday or tuesday and i think what they have to determine is what exactly can they do . Do they add more american troops particularly in syria and the thing that i will be looking for is rules of engagement. Do they change the rules of engagement . That means basically when you can shoot somebody. And being more aggressive. And there have been complaints that the rules of engagement are too tight. They take civilians into account too much. Certainly americans do not want to kill civilians but there are some who feel those rules of engagement hold them back. Now when you think about the fight against isis three top general, general mattis, general kelly, general mcmaster, the new National Security adviser all in this position now and have worked with each other far more than they worked with anyone else in the administration. They have and maybe not side by side but all of those men have been in combat. All of those men have led troops in combat. There is no greater bond between people than to be in battle together. Theyve trained together. They think alike in big ways. Theyve studied together. Theyre going to approach this as a team. Real power block inside the administration. Thanks very much. Robin. Now to a major arrest in missouri. A man accused of plotting a president s day terror attack is now facing charges and our senior justice correspondent, pierre thomas, is in washington with all those details for us. Good morning, pierre. Reporter good morning, robin. According to the fbi the suspect was hoping for mass homicide on a holiday. Specifically just two days ago, a nightmare scenario to terrorize president s day. The fbi claims Robert Hester jr. Is a wouldbe terrorist planning a bombing spree on a scale he believed was ten types bigger than the Boston Marathon attack. The alleged mission of a u. S. Citizen with a brief stint in the u. S. Army, a president s day terror massacre targeting buses, trains and a train station in kansas city. But it was all a sting. The fbi locked in on hester after he allegedly began posting isis propaganda and declarations of jihad on social media using a number of aliases including junaid muhammad. He opened himself up to being contacted, was very anxious to be recognized and kind of walked right into this trap set for him by the fbi. Reporter hester allegedly bought copper wire, batteries and roofing nails for pipe bombs and was shown three ak47 assault rifles and two handguns. When an fbi undercover agent posing as an isis terrorist said the bloody plot was going to, quote, bring them to their knees, hester responded, allegedly, i cant wait the the fbi operatives appeared to initiate most of the planning for the attack but hester was all in, prosecutors say and was given a chance to walk away but allegedly said, im down, robin. Oh, my goodness. Pierre and the fbi is reminding people we have to watch out for everyone and to stay vigilant. Reporter thats right. Fbi officials went out of their way to say radicals could be anyone. All right, thank you, pierre. Robin, new details on that plane crash that killed four american tourists in australia. Their plane slammed into a Shopping Mall just seconds after takeoff. Abcs linzie janis here with what went wrong. Reporter among the tourists on board a prominent lawyer, exfbi agent and former ceo on a vacation of a lifetime and this morning were learning the trouble on their small plane was so bad, they apparently didnt have a chance. Overnight, new information about that small charter plane and what caused it to slam into an australian mall. Investigators confirming the pilot issued a distress call moments before impact. Which is hosting the oscars and were just days away from hollywoods biggest night and now jimmy is pulling back the curtain on what we can expect. It is an exclusive and we have it here and its going to be in a little bit. Looks pretty chill. Hes with t. J. How could you not be chill. Thats something to look forward to. You cant win if you dont play. Too late to buy a ticket. Never too late. I got some plans after work. Okay, well move on to that new video of Harrison Fords close call on the runway in which the pilot just missed the commercial jet and you can hear his confusion on the tape. Abcs aviation correspondent david kerley has the latest on the investigation. Good morning, david. Reporter good morning, george. Weve heard descriptions of this but now from airport cameras we actually get to see the incident of Harrison Ford at orange countys airport. This morning, the video that shows the close call between Harrison Fords single engine plane and a boeing 737. As ford is approaching orange countys John Wayne Airport he acknowledges hes to land on runway 22 left. But the actor pilot is actually lined up to a parallel taxiway. Below him that jet is taxiing waiting to cross the runway to take off but suddenly ford is flying right over the jetliner with more than 100 on board apparently not realizing his mistake asking controllers if the jet was supposed to be below him. Despite the safe landing this morning the faa continues to investigate the stars near collision. The faa will want to know was this just a bad day where he was having in the beginning of the flight he was having problem, at the end of the flight he was having problems or something more serious going on. Reporter air Traffic Control recordings say it started with confusing radio calls. Ford who also flies a helicopter mistakenly identifying his aircraft and calling the wrong radio tower. L. A. Helicopter, or l. A. Helicopter sorry, husky eight nine Hotel Uniform is husky niner Hotel Uniform still with the santa monica tower. L. A. Tower on 19. 8 please. Reporter those calls minutes about of the near miss captured on camera. Its a big mistake to miss a frequency change, nope. It is a big mistake to land on a taxiway and overfly a commercial jet. Reporter this isnt his first scare. I didnt know you could fly a plane. Fly, yes. Land, no. Reporter in 2015 the veteran pilot crash landed his vintage world war ii plane on a santa monica golf course shattering his pelvis and ankle after an engine failure but the 74yearold actor is apparently hitting the skies once again. On tuesday ford spotted on the tarmac with his wife calista after reportedly flying one of his planes to los angeles. Now, the faa Investigation Continues and the latest word is that investigators have not yet interviewed Harrison Ford but, george, that is definitely their plan. So they have work to do. We heard Steve Ganyard say it was a pretty big mistake. What kind of penalties could he face . If hes found to be at fault. Reporter something we talked about last week and goes over the gamut. Could be nothing could happen. Theyll do the investigation and he could get a reprimand letter. There is a chance they could take his license away but it all depends on some of the mitigating circumstances and we dont know all of them. The faa has not told us much and Harrison Ford has not commented at all. That interview is coming. Like we said we dont know all the circumstances. Coming up, oscar Host Jimmy Kimmel spilling secrets. The four things he says will not happen on that stage. Allergy alert. The warm weather sending the pollen count soaring and dr. Besser here on how to battle those allergies. Come on back. Fotheres a seriousy boomers virus out there thats been almost forgotten. Its hepatitis c. One in 30 boomers has hep c, yet most dont even know it. Because it can hide in your body for years without symptoms, and its not tested for in routine blood work. The cdc recommends all baby boomers get tested. If you have hep c, it can be cured. For us its time to get tested. Ask your Healthcare Provider for the simple blood test. Its the only way to know for sure. We are back now on the road to the oscars with our good friend jimmy kimmel. Hes getting ready to host his very First Academy Award Ceremony and t. J. Holmes had the chance to sit down with him for an exclusive. Yes. Exclusive. Nobody else talking to jimmy but you. This is all only place youll see it, folks. Jimmy was very clear. He has one goal on oscar night, to do a good enough job that he gets invited back so he can say no. Hes not sure if he wants this stress ever again. But he gave me clear hints about what we will see in the show but he was really clear about what we will not see. We got to get something from you so we can go back and say we have exclusive details. Oh. Revealed by jimmy kimmel. What you want me to do is spoil the oscar viewing experience for the people no. Its going to be great. I wont sing, i wont dance, i wont smile. I probably wont inhale the whole night. Reporter after 14 years on Jimmy Kimmel Live he is preparing to host the oscars. A regular on the award shows, he done the espys, the amas, the rave reviews. The only thing we value more than diversity is congratulating ourselves on how much we value diversity. What is different about prepping for the oscars than another awards show. Its funny. You would think it was the same. Walk on stage, tell some jokes but people keep reminding you that its the oscars and there are three times as many people watching and eventually it starts to kind of like, i dont know it starts to become this cloud that surrounds you. I wake up in the middle of the night thinking about it sometimes. And if people would just leave me alone i think it would be fine but my Blood Pressure is through the roof. Are you studying past oscar hosts. Yes, i have watched all of hem. Who nailed it in your opinion in the past. I think ellen did a phenomenal job. He is a sommelier and knows a lot about wine. That is impressive. Billy crystal is like the Gold Standard but i have to say everyone did at least a good job and some of them did great jobs and that actually makes it worse for me because what i would have loved is if the last 14 oscar hosts in a row had bombed miserably. Thats my dream. Getting a time machine, go back, ruin the oscars for all of those hosts. You revealed youre being paid what for the oscars. 15,000. It sounds low. I made 20,000 for the first whole year of doing a radio show so from that standpoint it seems like a lot of money but between like the tuxedo and the dress for my daughter and tuxedo for my son and my parents and the limos and all that stuff theres no doubt i lose money on this deal. We dont do it for the money. We do it for the love of giving awards to strangers. We do this because we love to present baubles to millionaires. Hes relying on his same team of late night writers including his wife, molly, his cohead writer on his show. Shell be backstage working with me. You dont want her to just hang out and relax. No, i need her to help me write jokes. Do you have an idea for a joke, you say, you know what, nah, let me throw that one away. Were not going to do that. There was something, yes. Meryl streeps 20th nomination and i thought it would be funny to give her a pony, real pony. At first she thought i could hold a pony on a leash for three hours and i think she came to her senses and decided that was not a great idea. So what can we expect to see oscar night . I think you have to assume going in that no one knows who you are. The home audience has no idea who this person is that showed up to host the oscars so dont want to do your show. We have to expect to see something from your show in this show. There will be some things that i think everyone will understand. Mean tweets . Thats possible. Its possible there could be some mean tweets on the show. Tom hanks is a whiner. Her gigantic mouth looks like it will devour an elephant in one bite. Are we going to see matt damon. Unfortunately, we will see matt damon, yeah. Damon is his longtime semi serious rival and producer on manchester by the sea. My archenemy really so if the joker and the batman were facetoface there would be some kind of a standoff and i would imagine that that will be the same for this. Are you legitimately rooting against him . You want of course. You want his film to lose . I dont want the film to lose, i want him to lose. But its his film. Whatever however you want to look at it i would like him to go home with nothing. Reporter and kimmel is putting the biggest stars on notice. After the oscars im going to go home and watch the broadcast and look and i will see who was clapping and who was clapping and more importantly who was not and i vow to destroy those people for the rest of my days i will not relent until they are out of show business. You heard him say there hes watching all the other hosts. I asked who would you like to see host the oscars . His answer, his momma. Why . Shes sending Text Messages daily for ideas for his broadcast. His mom and wife. Has she sent a good idea . He said, nope, not a single one. He wants to see her execute all those bad ideas on stage. You know you are going to be in great hands sunday with him. Up there on that stage. Hes a pro. Hes on that circuit, one of those award show guys now. You had fun, didnt you . Oh, yeah. Of course, you did. Should have seen the outtakes, folks. Did you see those . I saw those. Tune in sunday night for the big show. Well be live on the red carpet for the oscars Opening Ceremony starting at 7 00 p. M. Eastern. Well be on the red carpet. I saw your dress backstage. We have you completely covered. Covered, we do and covered with our big board too and talk about nascar and is nascar crashing, a startling number of fans are turning away from the sport and well talk about that, plus, that amazing video of the rescue in that icy pond. Teens saved by two heroes who happened to be skateboarding in the park and they just happened to be models. That only happens in new york and youre only going to see these guys right here on gma. These guys right here on gma. vo what if this didnt have to happen . I didnt see it. vo what if we could go back . What if our car. Could stop itself . In iihs frontend crash prevention testing, nobody beats the Subaru Impreza. Not toyota. Not honda. Not ford. The allnew Subaru Impreza. More than a car, its a subaru. First up well talk about nascar. Once one of americas most popular sports. Now its future is in question with the first big race of the season set for sunday, of course, the daytona 500. A new report revealing viewership is down a staggering 45 since 2005 as racetracks are removing seats to make the stands appear fuller. Racing analyst and our good friend Espns Marty Smith will enlighten us. What do you think is going on here, marty . Robin, good morning. This is an extremely complex answer. We need way more time than we have to answer it accurately but ultimately i think nascar fans, Consumption Habits are changed and jaded by cost and jaded by change and jaded by a perceived lack of leadership in the sport. Look, the recession in 2007 was a haircut for nascar. Suddenly fan ancillary, dollars are harder to come by, not attending races. Corporate america sponsors ancillary dollars are harder to come by. Theres no sport that requires it like nascar does, Free Enterprise business unlike the nba, mlb. What you get in the marketplace is what you got. Now, back to the fans and that perceived lack of leadership chairman brian france, nascars chairman, people want to know where he is and ive asked him in the past why hes not more visible. He doesnt feel like he needs to be. How are you doing, man . Thank you. Thank you very much for having us. Have a seat. Wow. Whoo. All right. So, take us through what happened. Weve seen the video which is amazing and just, ethan, take us through what happened. Bennett and i just arrived, we were skateboarding and just decided to go through central park and to be honest, it was all a matter of right place and right time for the two of us. We stopped to take photos through the park, it was amazing sunset. It was beautiful and as we come up and over a rise i said to bennett, look, man, theres some kids over there on the ice. Were they no, they were actually on the ice and within the time it took me to say that to bennett and look back the ice had broken because they came together to take a photo so it had actually cracked and fallen through. And then, yeah, we didnt notice those moments. We just had to get down there and get them out. Were you concerned about the thin ice . There were signs there. I know you wanted to help and thank goodness that you did but you had to be thinking of your own safety. Yeah, yeah, you know, one of the first things i learned as a kid was never give your body to somebody drowning and i learned that the hard way the first two kids i got to heading into the water, pulled me under, they had me completely under the water. I had to get them up and get them to him but the only time i was really scared as i was entering the water going into, as you can see in the video it was chaotic, they were pulling each other under and knowing youre heading into the middle of that and trying to get out as much as youre trying to get them out and youre their way out. Theyre trying to get on top of you and get out any way they can and we worked well together. I felt super comfortable having him behind me and handing the bodies off to him and we got them all out and everyone survived. How cold was that water . Freezing. Brutal. Brutal. You know, the adrenaline was so crazy, i dont either of us realized how cold we were until after it all kind of subsided. Great that you all were there and we did even mention the fact that you guys are models. See, but model citizens. Yeah, exactly. Thats much better. I tell you what, everybody back there, they didnt forget you guys were models. Stop staring. Amy. Thank you, gentlemen, very much. Thank you so much. Welcome to the u. S. From australia. We do begin with extreme flooding in Northern California this morning. More than 200 people had to be rescued in san jose, the high water forcing many more from their homes and the threat is not over yet with concern that a local dam will overthrow there. Abcs Neal Karlinsky has the latest. Neal, good morning. Reporter amy, good morning. After all the back to back storms this is the result. This flooded neighborhood was a scene here yesterday. Take a look at the pictures as emergency crews were taking families out in boats. Very old people, babies, dozens of them all day long making matters worse, the water is contaminated with sewage and chemicals. People had to be decontaminated out on the street blocks away. Fire crews were hosing people down. Officials say this is as a direct result of an overflowing reservoir into a creek. So many are really near the limit. The weather is improving and the water here at this apartment complex is beginning to reseed. All right, well take it, neal, thank you so much. The other big story this morning reaction coming in to the trump administrations sweeping plan to detain and deport certain undocumented immigrants. The new rules order the deportation of Illegal Immigrants convicted of any criminal offense, not just serious crimes, people charged but not convicted could be targeted. Immigrant Rights Groups says it will drive the 11 million undocumented immigrants in this country further into the shadows. But the white house says the goal is not a mass deportation. The message from this white house and from the dhs is that those people who are in this country and pose a threat to our Public Safety or have committed a crime will be the first to go and we will be aggressively making sure that that occurs. And to do so thousands of federal agents will need to be hired to enforce those rules. No word on where that money will come from. Meanwhile, today secretary of state Rex Tillerson and john kelly are arriving in mexico to discuss Border Security and trade with mexicos president. An Appeals Court upheld marylands assault weapons ban and its limit on gun magazines. In their ruling the judges said the Second Amendment does not cover what they call weapons of war. The nra dismissed the decision as absurd. It could be appealed all the way to the supreme court. And a consumer alert for people who cook with olive oil. Unfortunately, get ready to pay more. Experts say prices could jump as much as 20 because of a bad harvest in europe that has been blamed in part on the weather. Finally, i think we could all use a laugh on this hump day, so take a look at this singing parrot that sounds like rihanna. Im friends with the monster inside of my head get along with the voices inside of my head all right, so thats the rihanna song monster. Pretty remarkable considering the parrot lives in brazil and does not speak any english. Youre welcome. Its really good. Really good. Thank you, amy. I have pop news envy. Also in pop news this morning, talk about a girls trip, robin, i would love to go on with you and these ladies. Check this out. I mean, oprah winfrey, the amazing funny mindy kaling and Reese Witherspoon all posting pictures from their time together in new zealand. A great trio. These three super cool ladies are costarring in a movie together, an adaptation of a wrinkle in time but thankfully not all work. Clearly based on the pictures theyre posting, taking in the sights, jumping for joy. I mean, who wouldnt . So beautiful. Swimming in a hot tub with the films crew members. Nice. Can i come, please . And, of course, enjoying a little bit of wine. There you go, reese. If their photo chemistry is any indication of what theyll bring to the big screen, we are all in for a treat. Someone else will join us on the trip. She immediately raised her hand and said, im in. Okay. Awesome. Then finally, for quite a while now, i dont know if you know this, but Gordon Ramsay has been sharpening his skewering reviews on twitter. So funny, something of an inside joke where people knowingly send gordon their pictures of food and then revel in his nasty comments about it like this one, its a meal with a side of rice and he writes, john, your rice looks older than me. Then the guy sent him a picture of a rainbow bagel and he said is that a dog chew, jordan . For a plate of sad looking nachos, he pleads, lettuce pray. Thats pretty funny. Those are the tame ones that i was allowed to use. To be fair, though, thousands of people are gluttons for punishment tweeting these pictures at gordon knowing that what theyll get back, just desserts, if you will. Because i follow gordon and im looking at it. Its hilarious. And im thinking hes being just like the show. You notice i dont know, george. I cant handle his criticism. A badge of honor. You have to go and look at it. That was my little funny for you on this wednesday. [ applause ] coming up, spring is coming early and the pollen count is up and our dr. [ cheers and applause ] were back now with a big effect of all the weather warming up, the trees already blooming in some places much earlier than usual. Pollen counts are way up and so many people are already starting to sneeze and deal with those allergies. Our chief health and medical editor dr. Richard besser will break it down for us. Monday the pollen count in atlanta was over a thousand. This time last year was 29. Yeah, its absolutely incredible. Let me show you whats going on around the country. It looks like a weather map. This is a pollen map. What you can see normally all green with very little activity. This is looking at tree pollen and you can see here in the south, look at these dark colors, very high levels, and its not just the south. It extends all the way up into the north. Areas that would normally be under snow and ice and pollen not active are seeing rain leading to mold and trees are blooming. It is a horrible allergy season. If its starting earlier will it end earlier . I wish i could say thats the case. Longer means longer. So earlier means longer and not only that, with Climate Change were seeing slightly higher levels of co2 and thats causing plants to put out higher levels of pollen so its longer and higher levels. So, rich, help people already suffering. If you had a treatment that worked for you last year, you want to refill those medications right now. If it didnt work see your doctor and they can help you. Over the counter whats recommended is nasal steroids, little spray once a day and that can help prevent your symptoms. It calms down your immune system. Over the counter antihistamines are really good if you dont need them every day because they can make you sleepy and Something Else a lot of people get benefit from and its a neti pot and what it does youre not going to demonstrate that, are you . Im not exactly going to do it. Okay, good. A neti pot is used to wash the pollen out of your nasal passages and an ancient approach. Its very effective. Its very effective. You want to use distilled water or boiled and cooled water. You want to follow the instructions in terms of how much salt to add to that water so its more gentle for you and use it, use it, you know, twice a day if thats effective for you and really just rinsing out nasal passages. It doesnt look pretty. In the privacy of your own bathroom not on national television. If you want to prevent them. Suck it up and get it out. Get a hepa vacuum and shut it out by keeping windows closed. We all open windows. That allows pollen in. Keep windows shut so the pollen doesnt come in. The next one is take it off. So when you come in from the outside, exactly before you use your neti pot, taking off the clothes covered in pollen, showering off and putting on fresh clothes. Wipe down your pets as well and lastly, stay on track. Track the pollen levels. When high in your area you want to make sure youre not doing a lot of activity in the morning. Wonderful suggestions, thank you, rich, for not doing that demo. Coming up what George Clooney is revealing about fatherhood and how his friends reacted when he told them the baby news. Come on back. Look, when i look back on it now, i like nothing about the 80s, you know what i mean. Theres nothing i would bring back but at the time, the music, oh. The music was the best.
