breaking overnight, terrifying takeoff. >> we had an engine failure. >> a boom then flames spotted out the window with 130 passengers on board. the pope's scary stumble. francis falls to the ground. priests race to get him back to his feet as millions around the world watch him celebrate mass. >> announcer: live from philadelphia, pennsylvania, this is a special edition of "good morning america," "your voice, your vote," the democratic national convention. and good morning, america. we are live in philadelphia for the final night of the conventions and all eyes will be on that stage behind us tonight for hillary clinton's big speech. president obama set the bar pretty high last night, rallied the crowd with a powerful defense of clinton, what they've achieved together over the last eight years. also, a pretty brutal takedown of donald trump. no outgoing president has ever hit a candidate like that, and look at this, you could see the gratitude on hillary clinton's face, all smiles and a big hug on stage after that speech. >> and there were a lot of people watching last night, including michelle obama, who tweeted this, she said of her husband, that's my man. your truth, dignity and grace reminds us what real leadership looks like. i am always proud of our potus. she also had affectionate words for vice president biden calling him one of her favorite men in the world. >> he was a favorite of the crowd, as well. and the man who could be our next vice president tim kaine, robin will talk to him in a moment. but first, cecilia vega has more on the night's biggest moments. >> unlike so many of other speakers in this convention hall president obama went the. he blasted donald trump by name. but this was also a valedictory address, the last big political speech of his presidency, and for president obama this was about handing over that baton to hillary clinton. overnight, a surprise appearance bringing the crowd to its feet. ♪ hillary clinton joining president obama on stage for an embrace between one-time rivals turned friends. but it was president obama's night. there on that convention hall, making the case for why he's with her. >> a leader with real plans to break down barriers and blast through glass ceilings and widen the circle of opportunity to every single american, the next president of the united states, hillary clinton. >> reporter: his support personal. >> i can say with confidence there has never been a man or a woman, not me, not bill, nobody more qualified than hillary clinton to serve as president of the united states of america. >> reporter: the words bringing the former president looking on to his feet too. >> i hope you don't mind, bill, but i was just telling the truth, man. >> reporter: president obama calling out their rival by name. >> and then there's donald trump. don't boo. vote. our power doesn't come from some self-declared savior promising that he can alone restore order as long as we do things his way. we don't look to be ruled. >> reporter: vice president joe biden also jumping into the ring. with fighting words for donald trump. >> how can there be pleasure in saying you're fired. he's trying to tell us he cares about the middle class. give me a break. that's a bunch of malarkey! he has no clue about what makes america great. actually he has no clue, period. but, folks, let me -- [ crowd chanting "not a clue" ] >> you got it. >> reporter: clinton's own vp pick, senator tim kaine, also taking aim. >> does anybody in this massive auditorium believe that donald trump's been paying his fair share of taxes? >> reporter: but the democrats trying to paint the picture of a hopeful future. even as president obama reached into the past dusting off a line from his famous convention speech 12 years ago. >> hope in the face of difficulty, hope in the face of uncertainty, the audacity of hope, america, you've vindicated that hope these past eight years. >> reporter: that famous line the audacity of hope. president obama, vice president biden, first lady michelle obama all laying the groundwork for hillary clinton to take the stage tonight, she'll be introduced by her daughter chelsea. sources tell me that she is still working on that speech right now, not done yet. >> not surprised by that at all. and joining us, the democratic candidate for vice president of the u.s., senator tim kaine. congratulations. >> thank you, robin. >> we were here until like midnight. didn't get much sleep. >> here we are again. >> here you are. i was struck by what you said yesterday after all your years of public service -- mayor, lieutenant governor, governor, senator -- you said that you never expected to be here. >> yeah, yeah. >> how did you get here? >> well, my mom and dad are here and they're still stunned that they got somebody in politics in the family. my dad ran an ironworker's shop in the stockyards of kansas city and drew up -- we were interested in church, in the kansas city royals and chiefs and what went on at school, but not politics, but my parents' strong faith background made me a real believer in helping others and i guess that was after 17 years of civil rights practice in richmond, that kind of, you know, just was my path into politics and that was 22 years ago so i've been at all these levels. i can't keep a job. i just keep switching titles but i really, really have enjoyed it. it's a great way to serve and i've met just spectacular people along the way. >> you had a lot to say last night. >> i had a lot to say. >> you acknowledged bernie sanders. >> yep. >> and what is it going to take because there are still his supporters who are having a very difficult time, a lot of protests, so how are you able to and secretary clinton be able to reach out to them? >> robin, i have kind of a perspective on this because i was a big obama guy in '08 and then was part of the team to try to bring everybody together and get the clinton supporters on board with the obama supporters and pull all of us together. i actually think where we are now, we're farther ahead than we were eight years ago in getting people to unify, and secretary clinton has done a really good job at this. i think hillary and bernie have done well and bernie was really, really good monday night, i thought, and, look, the bernie supporters i know, i mean, look and bernie sanders, they understand who hillary is and they understand that donald trump is a threat to everything that they care about. so i feel like we're in real good shape and you see the way the arc of this convention has gone, too, it started off with some turmoil and some churn but there's been a direct arc to unification and an awareness that the stakes are high and we have to pull together to win. >> we are seeing that arc. but you have your supporters, especially in the senate. on both sides of the aisle but you also have your critics who feel that you are too -- are not progressive enough that, when you ran for governor ten years ago, that you ran as a conservative on social issues. >> some, some. >> on some. this is what you said in one radio ad. >> i'm against same-sex marriage. i'm conservative on personal responsibility, character, family, and the sanctity of life. these are my values, and that's what i believe. >> do you still see yourself as conservative on some social issues? >> you know, on marriage equality i got to tell you, i was, in my first year as governor my legislature decided to put one of those same-sex -- marriage is between a man and woman issues on the ballot and the more i listened to the reason they wanted to do it the more i realized i can't be with them. they're trying to make the state a hostile place for people i care about so i campaigned against the marriage amendment in '06 and been over on the side of, wait a minute, we just can't discriminate against people. i'm a progressive in the south and that may be different than being a progressive in vermont or a progressive in oregon. but my career as a civil rights lawyer for 17 years against the death penalty, which was really tough to do in the south. i'm really happy that the democratic platform this year calls for getting rid of the death penalty. i'm really happy about that, but, i think what hillary said when she called and asked if i would be her running mate, she said, look, you're a progressive but a practical one and want to get things done. my goal is to help her, a, win, then help her have a spectacular presidency and i've been a number two. i've been a lieutenant governor to a great governor mark warner and then i've been a dnc chair supporting a great president, president obama, so i know how to be a supporter and i know how to be an advocate for somebody. >> and to help her with donald trump. you're not shy about -- >> i'm not shy. >> no, not at all. early on in your speech and, can we just show a little bit of the impersonation you did of donald trump. >> my horrible impersonation. >> he has a way of saying the same two words every time he makes his biggest, hugest promises. believe me. it's going to be great. believe me. we're going to build a wall and make mexico pay for it, believe me. >> i don't think "snl" will be calling any time soon. >> no, i don't think so. >> that wasn't your intent. but, you know, he's had some words to say about you. he's called you a political hack and said you're not very popular. >> well, wait a minute, you're missing the best one. yesterday he said i was a lousy governor of new jersey. he's right. i was never governor of new jersey. i was governor of virginia but, look, basic civics, there are 50 states. you have to give a guy a break who's only been in politics the last few months and not that well informed. >> how do you respond to some of the things and how he's been handling the campaign? >> well, look, some of it is comical. some of the things he says about me, my response is, quote, yawn, closed quote, but this is a -- it's a dangerous race. it's an existential choice for the country about, do you want to bring torture back? do you want -- in virginia, we care a lot about religious liberty, you know, thomas jefferson, james madison, people should be able to worship the way they want or not and not be preferred or punished. when he says we'll change after 240 years and we're going to start punishing people because of their religion, and if it's mormons -- if it's muslims this week it could be mormons next week. we have to fight to beat him. >> your religion is very important to you. how has your catholic faith, how has that affected you as a politician? >> well, my mom and dad are here, they're 81 years old and they just kind of brought us in a real traditional, you know, love god, love your neighbor as yourself. not too complicated but i took year off in the middle of law school to work with jesuit missionaries in honduras and i met the heros, both the jesuits and students in this little vocational school that i helped run and their parents and they taught me about faith and action and faith as a solace against the slings and arrows of life that we all experience. >> as you said last night, faith, family and work. >> it's funny. those were the values of the place where i worked, and those are american values. i see them all over this country, but the latino population in honduras and new american population today they live -- [ speaking spanish ] >> mucho gracias. >> de nada. >> thank you, senator. >> welcome to "good morning america." . we move on now to the latest firestorm by donald trump as he talked about hillary clinton's e-mails. critics accused him of treason for getting a foreign government to be sparked. abc's tom llamas has the latest from trump tower in new york. good morning, tom. >> reporter: good morning to you. that claim grabbing so many headlines including this one in "the new york daily news" that says "lock him up" and calls the republican nominee "comrade trump." in an interview that is set to run this morning, trump says he was just being sarcastic but, george, i was there in that news conference yesterday. trump stood by the claim multiple times. overnight, donald trump rallying a huge crowd in ohio but also dealing with the fallout from this statement critics are calling treason. >> russia, if you're listening, i hope you're able to find the 30,000 e-mails that are missing. i think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. let's see if that happens. >> reporter: trump encouraging russian hackers to tap into and expose hillary clinton's e-mails from her time as secretary of state. >> they probably have her 33,000 e-mails that she lost and deleted because you'd see some beauties there. >> reporter: both democrats and republicans condemning the idea. clinton's top foreign policy adviser calling this a national security issue adding, this has to be the first time that a major presidential candidate has actively encouraged a foreign power to conduct espionage against his political opponent. and from a spokesman for house speaker paul ryan, russia is a global menace led by a devious thug. putin should stay out of this election and trump also dealing with his wife melania back in the news. "the huffington post" reporting the official melania trump website has been taken down after news organizations questioned this line in her biography that said melania had obtained a degree in design and architecture at university in slovenia. a recent biography of melania's said she left college after a year to pursue a modeling career. so far no comment from the trump campaign. trump putting a spotlight on another spouse, bill clinton. saying the former president's speech at the democratic convention left out one key section of his very public marriage with hillary clinton. >> he didn't mention my favorite chapter. he left one chapter out. >> reporter: and trump telling me he has reflected on the fact that tonight hillary clinton will accept the nomination for president as the first female candidate from a major party. >> one of the messages last week at your convention was that you're a champion for women. you're the father of two daughters. did you reflect at all yesterday on this moment in history? >> i did. because i would love to see a woman become president of the united states, but she would be so wrong. even women say that. women don't like her. she would be so wrong. >> reporter: now the trump campaign was busy last night responding to all those speeches from the democratic convention. they're calling it a sad night full of empty rhetoric and that a clinton presidency would be a third term for president obama. george and robin. >> okay, tom, thanks very much. we're here with jon karl and matthew dowd again and, jon, let's begin with those charges from donald trump yesterday. as tom said he says he was just joking around there yesterday but it did create quite a backlash. how do you see the fallout? >> it created such a backlash that his own running mate mike pence had put out a statement saying that russia needs to be held accountable if true and what paul ryan's spokesman said, a former bush national security official said it was tantamount to treason and went over with quite a thud. you know, this is -- trump is good at saying he's joking after something that stirs up a big controversy. >> president obama said he was passing the baton to hillary clinton and that's exactly what the trump campaign is going at with these charges of a third term. >> absolutely. i think the democrats so far have been a little bit too lego movie. everything is awesome, everything is cool if you're part of the team. i think hillary clinton tonight -- >> that was on key. >> not as good as the imitation that we saw of tim kaine of donald trump. i think they need -- hillary clinton needs to get more into the zeitgeist of the country, about where the country really is, because the country really is at a point they're frustrated, afraid, they're anxious, and somebody needs to meet them there and then take them to hope because right now all the democrats have offered thus far is hope and they need to be met at their fear. >> let's talk a little bit about the speech last night by president obama, you covered him very closely these recent years. and he did a very good job of really showing the accomplishments and praising hillary clinton's accomplishments and also going after donald trump. it was very personal. >> it was and, you know, he was explicitly making the case for his own legacy while he was doing that and i thought maybe one of the more powerful parts of that speech was the way he went after those bernie or bust people in this very hall. you know, don't boo, vote. this legacy is on the line. very, very powerful speech. basically making the case that this is a third obama term. >> and have they been able to, this week, the democrats as opposed to the republicans get a bump or bounce from the convention but there was criticism that he didn't really increase his base, but it was really focused on his supporters. have the democrats been able to do that this week, cross the aisle? criminal case behind the netflix megahit "making a murderer." steven avery is appealing his conviction in the 2005 death of a young woman, and now lashing out at the lawyers who defended him the first time around. abc's eva pilgrim has the latest. good morning, eva. >> reporter: good morning, robin. steven avery is currently behind bars serving a life sentence for the murder of 25-year-old teresa halbach. but this morning he is placing the blame of why he's behind bars on his former lawyers saying they didn't do their job. steven avery, the man at the center of the true crime sensation "making a murderer" -- >> i want people out there to know i didn't do it. >> reporter: this morning, for the first time, slamming his former lawyers dean strang and jerome buting. in a handwritten letter writing dean and jerry didn't do no investigation on this case, if they did, i would not be in prison. avery also calling for the pair to lose their licenses to practice law adding lawyers should be responsible for they wrongdoing. >> we the jury find the defendant steven a. avery guilty of first degree intentional homicide. >> reporter: more than 19 million just here in the u.s. watched the netflix docudrama that put a spotlight on avery's case, the 54-year-old currently behind bars convicted in 2007 to life in prison for the murder of 25-year-old teresa halbach. >> you know, in prison for something you didn't do and you have to do it all over again. >> reporter: avery has long claimed he was framed and claims his former lawyers reiterated to abc a few months ago. >> i'm still left with real reasons to suspect that. >> reporter: but now, avery is turning on that legal team blaming them for his incarceration. his new letter listing 15 complaints including a lack of experts and claiming they ignored the evidence writing that the pair wouldn't tell me what was going on in my case at all. those lawyers denying those claims to abc overnight saying "because he was in jail before his trial, steven could not know immediately all of the investigative steps we took on his behalf." avery's new attorney kathleen zellner, a woman who has built a reputation for successly appealing wrong convictions is now appealing his. >> i think that the evidence used to convict him was planted, i think he was framed. >> reporter: now, zellner seems pretty confident saying they have found new evidence, evidence that we will get a look at in the new season of the show on netflix. his former lawyers will offer his new counsel any information they need. robin and george. >> okay, thank you, eva. we're going to move on now to that bill o'reilly backlash the fox news anchor under fire for saying after michelle obama's speech that the slaves who built the white house were quote well fed and in decent lodgings. he is responding now and linsey davis has the latest. >> reporter: even though he says smear merchants are distorting his words last night bill o'reilly offered more details to support his incendiary comments that the slaves who built the white house were well fed and had decent accommodations. this morning, fox news host bill o'reilly is doubling down on his controversial fact-checking of the first lady's dnc speech monday night after michelle obama pointed out the historical significance of being the first black family to live in the white house. >> i wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves. and i watch my daughters, two beautiful, intelligent black young women playing with their dogs on the white house lawn. >> reporter: on "the o'reilly factor's" tip of the day tuesday, he angered some by describing what he called historical context. >> slaves that worked there were well fed and had decent lodgings provided by the government. >> reporter: he then added further fuel to the fire with this commentary. >> so, michelle obama is essentially correct in citing slaves as builders of the white house but there were others working as well. >> reporter: outrage online was swift. six-time tony winning actress audra mcdonald had these stark pictures with captions like dear bill o'reilly, live in this. wear these. and take a ride on this, maybe now you'll get why people are having a hard time with your description of the slaves' accommodations. tv producer and writer shonda rhimes tweeted, the idiocy never ceases to amaze me. try deceivers. >> reporter: last night, o'reilly elaborated on his point and lashed out at critics. >> in order to keep slaves and free laborers strong, the washington administration provided meat, bread and other staples, also decent lodging, on the grounds of the new presidential building. that is a fact. not a justification, not a defense of slavery. just a fact. anyone who implies a soft on slavery message is beneath contempt. >> the author who actually wrote the book "the invisibles: the untold story of african-americans in the white house" has weighed in on all of this saying we don't know the quality of the food or housing because there are no historical records that support that judgment. what is undeniable is that the slaves were not given a choice on what they ate or where they lived and my question is really. is this something that needs to be debated at all? we are after all talking about slaves. george and robin. >> it's just surreal that we're even talking about it. >> psychiatric hospital. a federal judge ruling he no longer poses any risk. a lot of mixed reaction on this specifically from the reagan family. michael tweeting out his father forgave him. maybe we should do the same. but patti not feeling quite the same, saying just because you forgive someone doesn't mean you should let them loose. what was the legal basis for releasing him? >> i know people forget this -- he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. people don't want to talk about that, not guilty. >> how does someone become uninsane? >> when you're found not guilty by reason of insanity, the goal is to cure you, make you better. it's not to punish you. you're not being held to be punished. you're being held so that you can get better. another thing that we're not talking about is the fact that very often hinckley's already been out for 17 days in a month. so it's not new that he's going to be out. but what is new is that he could be out completely and this is a lot based on the doctors. when you're found not guilty by reason of insanity a lot of your future rests on whether the doctors say this person is a threat, not a threat, et cetera. >> now, even though he is released is he released without restrictions. >> no, a lot of restrictions. >> a lot of restrictions. >> yeah, a lot of restrictions. for example, he's not allowed to get in touch with the news segment and payback for poor reviews on yelp. a manhattan dentist is suing his own patients for defamation saying they hurt his future business by posting negative comments like one that claimed an absurdly long wait. becky worley is here, she's our tech expert. becky, i have a good question for you. is this a case of revenge for the negative reviews? >> yeah, guys, this dentist has sued his own patients five separate times. he's asked for damages of 50 to $100,000 from these patients. but what is interesting to me is yelp's response. they slapped a banner on the dentist yelp listing, warning customers that he's prone to threatening lawsuits. i mean, yelp says they're only doing that on a handful of listings but the threat of being sued, they say, really inhibits the power of their crowd-sourced reviews. consumers need to know about it. >> i go on all the time to look to see what people are saying about anyone i go to visit especially if it's someone i haven't met before. here's what the dentist is saying. he's saying that when a claim is made that is simply not true he feels he must set the record straight, negative reviews obviously could be hard for someone to navigate their business when they get them but, is there any merit to what this dentist is saying? >> yeah, and this is a bit of a he said/she said or maybe in this case it's more they said/he sued. some serious complaints of problems with the diagnosis overbilling, others more trivial. you mentioned an hour alone in the waiting room when the doc was running late. i have small children. that sounds amazing to me to be alone for an hour but, come on, it's yelp. consumers know you only read the three-star reviews, ignore the highs and the lows, and most business owners take what i call the elsa approach, let it go. but, hey, you got a lawyer sitting right there. i mean, dan, this is free speech, right? >> yeah, well, people still have to be careful. there's a difference between opinion and fact. right, you can say this person is the worst as much as you want. you can say i'd never ever go back as much as you want. but when you start stating facts, i waited this amount of time, person didn't diagnose me, et cetera, those are things where you can get sued by someone because if it's false, then you could be in legal trouble. >> i don't think anybody thinks about that. you just post your opinion. >> but opinion is okay. opinions are okay. >> all right, dan, becky, thank you for that. now to a parenting alert. nearly 70% of kids are quitting youth sports by age 13 and now a new article is raising the question, are pushy parents to blame? dr. elizabeth lombardo, clinical psychologist, joins us now with the latest on that. >> dr. lombardo, you know, i had a football camp and at this football camp, parents would be on the sidelines screaming at their kids thinking everybody would be a pro and they were 7 years old. so, should these pushy parts possibly be sidelined from the games? >> well, you know, i think we do even better to coach our parents how to help their children get more out of the game. not more playing time, but focusing on things like team dynamics, working with others, camaraderie. you know, these are skills that will benefit our children for the rest of their lives. >> yeah, and you know we all know self-awareness is hard to actually put into practice so how do parents know when they're being pushy? are there warning signs you can say have a self-check basically. >> yes, there are and here's the deal. we're all parents, so, let's ask ourselves, do any of you engage in these? first, is the coach always your most recent call? what do you think? michael? >> nope, not me. >> not for me. >> good, good. second warning sign is, does your anxiety increase the closer you get to the game? >> nope. >> nope. >> not me. my kids are in trouble, i guess. >> opposite of a helicopter parent. >> okay, so, here's the third one, do you coach the coach? do you provide the coach with feedback on how he or she should do their job? what do you think? >> if strahan isn't doing that -- >> i learn because i learned from watching other parents do it. and i just think that sports, it's about teamwork, it's about camaraderie. learn to work hard, work together and if you push your kids in sports hopefully you push them on the education side as well because that goes further. >> basically the tip is be like mike. >> mike played one year in high school. i talk about myself in third person. i played one year in high school so, you know, i'm like a late bloomer and it shows. you don't have to play growing up. >> i still wouldn't want to be a coach of michael strahan's kids. be a little nervous as a coach. be out there. >> i did give a few looks >> i mean, it's part of your blueprint but it's not your whole destiny. i think what's really important is we need to put this issue to rest once and for all. this is not about medicalizing a natural process. this is about supporting and empowering women. they need to hear, i hear you. this is not all in your head. to hear that is not okay because 15% to 20% of women do experience severe symptoms and it affects not just them but their entire circle. >> absolutely. okay, you're a gynecologist and you see lots and lots of patients. what advice do you have for those listening right now going, oh, my god, she's describing me? >> i think she's quite important because hillary clinton has a very hard time relating to people, even -- i mean, if she was sitting here she could do it she has a terrible time up there. and chelsea clinton being able to talk about her as a person matters. it's interesting, apparently in focus groups people feel when hillary clinton talks about her grandchildren, that it's inauthentic, which is not true. but she's got to somehow get it across that she is authentic and chelsea is the easiest way to do it. >> we all saw ivanka trump last week talk about her dad and she and chel -- insurgent >> are friends. >> it gets touchy during the campaign. what can chelsea do that ivanka didn't do? how do you compare and contrast? >> i think it's a different -- donald trump is a different persona to put it mildly, and chelsea clinton has to talk about the mom, but she has to do it carefully because it can't just be mom and grandmom and daughter of her mom and all that. she has to talk about why that matters to us. >> and so that's what you see her doing tonight. talking more about -- >> that would be my expectation is that it's not just that she's a mom but that being a mom matters to everybody who is watching. >> do you think the people, though, voters at home discount tributes that come from the family? >> yeah, sure, to some degree. i mean, you know, if your family doesn't love you, who does? right? but it can -- it can lend that air of authenticity. you know, hillary clinton -- chelsea clinton, it's interesting, because she did grow up in this bubble, as you well know, you know, this only child of a political family always, but she married into a chaotic, wonderful scene of her husband 1 of 11 children, his, hers, theirs, adopted, all of that, and that's given her more of a sense of reality, i think. >> as we said, this is your 22nd convention. put it all in context from the first one you've done to this one, what you have seen across the landscape. >> well, i've seen the incredible diversity of this party mainly, and that is what you do see is the difference between the two parties at the conventions. and that first one was 1964 where the big fight was to get the mississippi freedom democrats seated as an integrated delegation. it didn't work, but what it did was set the tone for the democratic party going forward and that's what happens at conventions. so all those arcane things that happen and the rules committee and the platform committee and all that does set a tone for the party going forward. but this is a moment tonight. i grew up with a mother who was born before women's suffrage and then became a powerful member of congress, but spent all of her life trying to promote women in office and in public service. she would love to be here tonight. >> a lot of people have been thinking about your mother. >> she is raising a glass in heaven. >> cokie, of course, a veteran of these conventions, as she just said. it's been a long journey here for the rookie, as well. >> that's true. >> they're going to join us in just a moment, our reporters behind the scenes with the candidates. >> embedded with the candidates covering every angle, 24/7. here's a look at their lives on the campaign trail. the 2016 democratic national convention, the culmination of months of nonstop campaigning and our dedicated abc campaign reporters have been there from the beginning. >> no sleep till november. >> let's just say that's a lot of hotel points and frequent flier miles. >> reporter: the bernie buzz still going strong at the convention. >> hillary clinton must become the next president. >> covering bernie sanders was kind of like being at a music festival. this huge party with really excited people. >> reporter: and now with hillary clinton as the official nominee, our reporters are sharing their most memorable moments on the trail and the strategy behind her groundbreaking campaign. >> the number one question i get from people when i tell them i cover hillary clinton is do you like her? there's this fascination about who she is as a person and even though i think she's been in the public eye for over 20 years people still feel like they don't know her. >> something that hillary clinton does that many people watching on tv may not know is that she really does love to listen. secretary clinton will stop sometimes up to ten minutes, hear these particular issues and then call her staff over and say, can you take down this person's name and number. we're going to get in touch with you. >> here, why don't we do it together, the two of you because then we'll get a better shot. >> i don't think anyone could have expected how unique or exciting this election was going to be and just knowing we're on the front lines every day just makes it all worth it. >> and joining us now are the reporters you just met, liz kreutz, josh haskell and maryalice parks. welcome. i love this because -- full disclosure. whose shoes are you wearing? >> oh, cecilia's. >> cecilia vega's shoes. she's wearing cecilia vega's shoes. and you went shopping yesterday? >> yes. >> you all look great. >> and you look fantastic but i mean but you're used to being behind the scenes, so it's wonderful to give you this kind of recognition. what are you seeing that folks at home aren't seeing? >> i have to admit today covering clinton we don't get a ton of access. what you're seeing is what i'm seeing but over the past year and a half, covering hillary clinton i've seen her in so many intimate moments i can tell you she is a total policy wonk and super funny and loves to joke around. this time reminds me of a few months ago in california at a campaign event in the middle of her remarks and these two pranksters in the front row just started taking their shirts off and totally like were shirtless. and she looked down at them and joked with them and said it's really distracting but as long as you don't take anything else off you can stay. >> you spent a lot of time with bernie sanders and his movement. and he was creating crowds like we haven't seen before. that must have been overwhelming. >> it was unbelievable. and even though it started to become expected, it was really -- they never stopped being shocking and especially the organization you saw behind the scenes. sometimes those crowds would come with 24, 36 hours' notice and so fervent, homemade signs and playing music. they'd lay out blankets and have wine and food. they came to party. they came to celebrate and it was really a community. >> he's the most improbable rock star. >> i watched college age girls scream and yell, you'd have thought they were seeing elvis. it was unbelievable. >> what's been the memorable moment for you, josh? >> the jefferson-jackson dinner in iowa. not this fancy dinner but a pep rally. bernie sanders supporters, hillary clinton supporters, 6,000 and i was there with liz and maryalice and it was so loud and the passion, katy perry was there for hillary, and maryalice was like, josh, come over here, bernie is in the stands, josh come over, there's hillary clinton and we were just running around chasing them like three kids given this incredible opportunity. it was pretty amazing. >> well, you give us an opportunity to see them like we can't always do and just thank you so much. thank you for your 24/7. >> great work. >> and you look great. you always look great but sometimes we didn't recognize them a little bit. >> we don't have all the camera gear with us. >> thank you, guys. >> of course, we're going to have full coverage of the final night of the convention tonight, "world news" will be here, "nightline," as well and the special at 10:00 p.m. eastern, our whole political team will be here and you can watch the livestream all day long gavel-to-gavel coverage. >> right now let's go back to new york. do you want to throw it back to new york and ginger?
