Hillarys religion and why he thinks clinton is unelectable. She has a bad temperament. She would do so badly with the economy. It all comes after Hillary Clinton launches her own new offensive to take down trump. Midair meltdown. Movie star selma blair apologizing this morning after being forced to leave on a stretcher following a bizarre rant that frightened fellow passengers. How the the people v. O. J. Simpson star is explaining her strange behavior. And good morning, america. And good morning, america. A lot of news to get to this morning including, david, your oneonone with donald trump. I spoke to him before his big speech later today and takes on Hillary Clintons accusations that she says not only should his finger not be on the button but shouldnt have his hands on our economy. How he responds to that. But we begin with the Severe Weather alert for so many. The rain and winds that are ripping through the northeast. Millions in the bullseye in the midwest right now and unfortunately ginger, you say the worst could still be on the way. Absolutely. Three rounds that were going to be talking about. Severe thunderstorm warnings and watches in parts of illinois moving into indiana at this hour as we look at the radar. But there were more than 125 severe storm report, montana to delaware. Oh, my god. Reporter dangerous storms lacerating roofs on the jersey shore. Tossing them into the atlantic. Oh. Reporter gusts reaching 80 Miles Per Hour. Hail pelting cars. And in the nations capital, flash flooding sending water cascading down an escalator at this d. C. Metro station. People trekked through the flooded underground carefully making their way up the steps. In maryland, a tornado tearing an almost 13mile path. It was horrible. Everything turned black and we just seen the trees going left and right. Reporter storms uprooting trees, tossing them onto cars and into homes leaving them without power. The threat is on along that warm front and that area in red is the moderate risk that something we dont see that often throughout the year so certainly heavier north and west of chicago for tornadoes and then into ft. Wayne all the way just north and west of cincinnati you can see damaging winds of 60 plus Miles Per Hour and i want to time it out. You saw the storms happening now. Take it to noon, chicago with another hit, right there north of indianapolis and finally just after drive time in chicago or around that time the low passes by and thats when you have the potential for that spin and, therefore, tornadoes so a lot of threats for today including that hail, the damaging wind all for that part right around the great lakes. Well keep up with it. Thanks, ginger. In the meantime, we turn to the wildfires raging across seven states this morning. The extreme heat fueling the flames, residents now being forced to leave their homes as firefighters fight to protect people and their property, as those fires spread. Abcs matt gutman has been on the front lines all week long and in duarte, california, this morning. Hey, matt. Reporter good morning. The fire continues to spread over the past couple of hours we have watched it engulf that valley behind me. These Forest Service trucks are here in case it spreads to the communities around us. Normally at night these fires tend to subside but because it has been so hot and the brush here so dry that fire just continues to burn. This morning, hundreds of firefighters and squadrons of choppers continue to battle infernos out west. The dangerous heat still fueling more than a dozen wildfires burning in seven states. Were a little short on resources because of the fire up north and the fire down south but we are getting resources in as we speak. Reporter as air assets buzz treetops just over the leaping flames nearly 600 firefighters grind it out on the ground against twin fires burning just outside of los angeles. The blaze is threatening to merge into one. We watched as this crew labored for an hour trying to cut its way just a few yards up a hill. Firefighters are telling me theyre battling this incredibly steep terrain. Theyre also fighting the heat and some of this brush here hasnt burned in decades. More than that, theyve got to cut through all of this cactus. The blaze chewing up more than 5,000 acres. Mandatory evacuations. Reporter forcing officials to order mandatory evacuations to almost 800 residents. Last night was really scary. Feels like its just coming straight out at us. Reporter this womans house burned down in 1980 and is now packing into her minivan that which was most precious to her. Her three kids. Reporter no word when thosing vac cues might be allowed to go back to their homes and thats because the fire is only 10 contained but perhaps a glimmer of good news. Its forecast to be in the 90 the rest of the week instead of triple digits over the weekend. All right, matt gutman, thank you for that reporting. We appreciate it. Turning now to politics and Hillary Clintons blistering attack on donald trump. Who then blasted the Presumptive Democratic nominee right back. Abcs cecilia vega is in cincinnati, ohio, with more on that. Good morning to you, cecilia. Reporter amy, good morning to you. Hillary clinton says donald trump could send this country back into a recession if hes elected and shes got another big speech planned today where shell try to convince voters that she is the better choice for the economy. But there are dueling speeches in the works, donald trump has a big attack planned too. Hillary clintons latest attack hitting her billionaire businessman rival where it hurts, in the wallet. We cant let him bankrupt america like we are one of his failed casinos. Reporter in the battleground of ohio all hillary, hillary. Reporter clinton delivering one of her longest speeches yet, 45 minutes of donald trump bashing. Hes written a lot of books about business, they all seem to end at chapter 11. [ laughter ] reporter from his businesses to his refusal to release his taxes. You have to ask yourself, whats he afraid of . Maybe that well learn he hasnt paid taxes on his huge income or maybe he isnt as rich as he claims. Reporter and trump giving it right back from instagram Hillary Clintons only right about one thing, i understand debt and how to handle it. Ive made a fortune with debt but debt for this country is a disaster and obama has piled it on and shes been there watching. Reporter to twitter saying how can hillary run the economy when she cant even send emails without putting the entire nation at risk . This morning on both sides, the gloves are off. Just like he shouldnt have his finger on the button, he shouldnt have his hands on our economy. [ cheers and applause ] reporter yeah, those attacks are flying and trumps big speech today is expected to hit on even more fronts from benghazi to donations made to the clinton foundation, but, david, the Clinton Campaign says they are not worried about this. Yes, i think the general Election Campaign has been launched. Cecilia, thanks. Now my oneonone with donald trump right after clintons attacks among them bankrupting companies and asked trump whether average americans were hurt by that, plus, as trump takes aim at clinton later today he is weighing in on her faith and personal attacks as we ask is there anything off the table for trump going after the clintons. Hillary clinton said of you that just like he shouldnt have his finger on the button, he shouldnt have his hands on our economy. I heard what she said. I built a great, great company. Its worth tens of i mean, its just a very, very valuable company. Some of the greatest assets in the world including with what were sitting on right here. She has a bad temperament. She would do so badly with the economy. She pointed to something that you have said out in the campaign trail saying im going to do for the country what ive done for business. But then she argued that you intentionally ran up huge amounts of debt. You bankrupted your companies not once but four times and that hundreds of jobs were lost. How are you going to respond to clinton and were average americans affected in any way by these . What ive done is ive used brilliantly the laws of the country and not personally just corporate and if you look at people like myself that are at the highest levels of business theyve used many of them have done it many, many times. Did any average americans pay the price . Im running a business, you have to understand, for my company, my employees and for my family. Reporter we asked him about his newest fundraising numbers dwarfed by clintons. Will he continue to fund his own campaign . Are you going to continue to self i may. I could do whatever i want. Let me ask you about Something Else regarding Hillary Clinton in the last 24 hours, you have brought up her religion. Saying we dont know anything about hillary in terms of religion. I dont know much about her, no. What would you like to know that you dont know nothing whatever it is, i just dont know. Somebody asked me the question i didnt bring it up. Somebody asked me the question. I said, i dont know much about her religion. Reporter lastly we asked about his speech later today. You will take on Hillary Clinton. In recent days i did sit down with secretary clinton and i asked her what will be off limits for her in going after you . Your marriages, your personal life. She said that she will not answer personal attacks that she will run a Campaign Based on the issues that voters most care about so the same question for you. What will be offlimits for you in going i know why she says that and i think thats fine. Thats more for her to say that i hit bill a couple of times because once hes in the campaign, you know, if hes in the campaign i guess he deserves to be hit but i would much rather have it based on issues and policy. I think we win on issues and policy. Reporter and trump telling me despite Hillary Clinton gaining nationally in the polls he says watch ohio and pennsylvania. Crucial battleground states where he points out hes still quite confident there. Lets bring in Jonathan Karl because you heard donald trump say if bill clinton is on the trail both are fair game. He didnt sound like anything is off the table. What do you expect today . This will be the kitchen sink speech. He will go after hillary on everything, benghazi, the emails, the donations to the clinton foundation, i dont expect that he will go at the bill clinton personal stuff but will certainly go after bill clintons record on trade, trade is essential to his campaign and sensitive to a lot of democrats. He will hit that hard. I asked if he will selffund in the general election. He said he might. He raised, what, 3 million in may compared to romney raising 23 million, john mccain raising 20 million. Hes up against hillary whos raised even more. Are there changes coming . They insist this will be a professionalized campaign. They will have to raise a heck of a lot more money. Look at the numbers here, dave. This is astounding. Hillary clinton has 684 staffers. He has 70. If you look at the money, you mentioned Hillary Clintons raised 25 million in may. He, 3 million. He only has a million in the bank. Heres the one i love. Look at this. Ad spending so far in the general election. 138 million for clinton in the super pacs, 363,000 for donald trump and thats just his super pac. He hasnt spent a dime on advertising. Now he won the primary on the cheap. Its a lot harder to win a general election that way. In the meantime, clinton is trying to combine that spending on battleground ads with the speeches, are they landing, though . Well, this speech that she gave yesterday about his Business Record is a much harder case to make. Hes a guy that runs around flying around with an airplane with his name on it. Hard to say he was an unsuccessful businessman but that is the case theyll be trying to make. Jon karl with us. Jon, thanks as always. Amy. We turn to the very latest on the arrest of a teen from indiana who Officials Say was on his way to join isis overseas and may have planned to launch attacks right here at home. Abcs Pierre Thomas joins us with those chilling details. Pierre, good morning. Reporter good morning, amy. Fbi agents arrested akram musleh as he tried to go on a bus to new york city en route to join isis. Only 18 years old. He claims musleh is a disciple of long dead Anwar Al Awlaki and had been recently shopping for a Pressure Cooker like that used in the Boston Marathon bombings. Prosecutors say he tried to recruit for isis and was conducting online searches for terror targets here at home, amy. And, pierre, its hard to ignore that profile of musleh strikingly similar to the orlando killer. Pledging allegiance to isis, also disciple of Anwar Al Awlaki. Another example the fbi says of isis reach inside the united states, amy. All right, Pierre Thomas, thanks for that in washington. We turn to another scary moment that alerted the Terrorism Task force. Three people arrested, in fact, allegedly packing an arsenal of weapons in their truck. It was all discovered just outside of a major tunnel into new york, the holland tunnel where we find abcs gio benitez this morning. Good morning, gio. Reporter david, good morning to you. A truly unusual case happening right here at the entrance to that busy holland tunnel. Its the bizarre arrest at one of new york citys busiest tunnels during rush hour monday with terrorism units on high alert the discovery of a distinctive truck filled with an arsenal of deadly weapon, seven gun, body armor, 2,000 rounds of ammunition. Knives. A military grade helmet. An officer initially stopping it because of a broken windshield. He had the driver exit the vehicle and when the driver got out, he noticed a 45 caliber handgun on the drivers seat. Reporter but this Morning Police say the three people from pennsylvania told the officers they didnt intend to harm anyone. Instead, they wanted to rescue someone. A 16yearold girl who they say was in a new york drug den. The trucks owner john cramsey who calls himself a rebel on facebook and owns a gun range posting these photos before the arrest with this message. This young lady from wilkesbarre is scared and wants to come home. Last night she woke to find her friends body next to her in the same bed where her friend died of another heroin overdose. The mother of one of those arrested speaking with abc news overnight. They werent going out to harm anybody. They were going out to save. Reporter cramseys own daughter dying of an accidental Drug Overdose just four months ago. He posted this video of her on his facebook while grieving. Itll all get better. I think when he lost his daughter, it just kind of broke something inside of him and it sent him on a mission to help other families. Reporter this Morning Police say they have found the 16yearold girl cramsey was looking for but she told them she does not need to be rescued. And we should tell you those guns were legally bought in pennsylvania but here in new jersey it is illegal to possess them so theyve been charged for that and theyll face a judge later today. David. So much hardship in those families. Horrible story all the way around. We get to lara. Big developments on a story we have been following all week. Indeed. It is that Daring Rescue going on right now in the south pole. A small plane on the way to save a sick researcher braving dangerous conditions in one of the most remote places in the world. Abcs Alex Marquardt has more from london. Good morning, alex. Reporter good morning, lara. Thats right, the planes crew has landed at the south pole and made a quick turn around. They refuelled with warm fuel. Evacuated one, possibly two patients and took all back to a British Research station to leave antarctica. Overnight, the small rescue plane landing successfully at the bottom of the world. A window of good weather allowing the turboprop twin otter to reach the american amundsenscott Research Center where a crew member needs to be evacuated. A second person will likely come out too. The station so remote the flight so daring that just two evacuations like this have been attempted in 60 years. Sort of the end of the earth, it is exciting to be there to start with, but then, of course, you know, you put in the variable of darkness and the extreme temperatures, you know, it makes it a bit more adventuresome. Reporter its the middle of the antarctic winter, dark 24 hours a day and temperatures averaging minus 70 degrees. So cold the planes fuel needs to be heated up. Two twin otters flew from canada to chile to antarctica and one undertaking the final 1500 miles to the south pole. A bright moon helped the plane land on its skis on the ice and snow, after preps the team had to wait for the weather. Everything is at the mercy of the weather. One minute it can be still and you think that the weather is fine. Half an hour later it can be blowing 40 knots and you can be in a blizzard. Now once that twin otter lands at the british station, it will link up with the one left behind in case of emergency. Theyll transfer the patient or patients quickly on to the plane and out to antarctica. Lara. All right. Theyre halfway there. Halfway there. Incredible story and from extreme cold to extreme heat, ginger has the latest on the heat waive still bearing down on the west. Still there in the southwest, excessive heat warnings, palm springs, vegas, well above 110. 113, phoenix and could break record, kansas city to st. Louis to des moines. Hello, i am meteorologist mike nicco with the bay area forecast highlights. Cooler breeze, cleaner air, more heat relief tomorrow and the weekend hot highs are spilling into next week. Today we still have 90s but they are mainly inland east bay, a lost 70s and 80s, and 60s along the coast into san francisco. We will have 40s tonight with
