we'll talk to bernie sanders live this morning. >> that's right. that's coming up. but first, so much of the country under severe weather threat this morning. tornadoes and hail taking aim and rob is right in the middle of the target zone in norman, oklahoma, good morning, rob. >> good morning, george. today is shaping up certainly to be a dangerous day here in the plains and aside from the threat for tornadoes, we're going to see some big-time hail. look at this picture of a hailstone that fell in san antonio, texas, yesterday, baseball to softball size hail. these come down at 90 to 100 miles an hour. this is a dangerous situation. also the winds in southern california has been flying all week. this car canopy and flipping it around. some of those wind dynamics will feed the system in the plains. we expect from the texas/oklahoma border all the way up to southern nebraska, damaging winds and hail all of the way down to austin. tomorrow less of a threat but into more populated areas. it looks to be a two-day event. inside that building, the storm prediction center, the brightest minds in tornado forecasting no doubt they will be busy today. robin. >> rob, thank you. now to the big day in the race for the white house. five states up for grabs. pennsylvania, the biggest prize, the big news in the republican race, ted cruz and john kasich banding together to try and stop donald trump. but can it work? abc's tom llamas is at a polling place in pennsylvania. good morning, tom. >> reporter: robin, good morning to you. the voting now under way here in pennsylvania. and a first for the trump campaign. trump handing out these delegates slate, these are basically the trump delegates that will support him at the convention. so now the trump campaign wants to make sure they not only win the votes here but they also win the support they need at the convention. >> who's going to vote for trump? >> reporter: this morning, donald trump eyeing a clean sweep of five states voting today. but still bitter about the cruz/kasich alliance. >> lyin' ted announced that he can't win by himself. he cannot do it. you know, he's a joker. >> reporter: the front-runner going after his republican rivals after senator ted cruz and governor john kasich announced they'd stay out of each other's way in certain primaries. to beat the billionaire. trump calling it collusion, upset over that and apparently kasich's eating habits. >> this guy takes a pancake and he's shoving it in his mouth. it's disgusting. do you want that for your president? i don't think so. >> reporter: even claiming his 10-year-old son was sickened by the ohio governor. >> he said, daddy, who is that guy on television? that's disgusting. >> reporter: kasich firing back. >> i mean, the man is full of insults. he's been insulting me all day. i kind of chuckle. i think it's humorous. the trump people are very desperate, they're very fearful. >> reporter: trump not stopping there. also sounding off on appearances and hillary clinton. >> do i look like a president? how handsome am i, right? how handsome? somebody said he really does look good but, you know, i don't know if he's presidential -- and i'm looking at the stage of people. my competitors. does hillary look presidential to you? >> reporter: but as trump talked looks and table manners, senator cruz talks strategy. >> this is not your father's gop. >> reporter: focusing now on indiana which votes next week. cruz predicting his campaign picks up steam in upcoming western primaries. >> as it shifts back west, lot of states will -- it shifts to indiana, north dakota and the big enchilada of california. >> reporter: now, this morning, apparently there is peace in one of the biggest fights this campaign season, donald trump agreeing to sit down with megyn kelly for a special interview that airs in mid-may. this would be the two's first interview since that famous exchange in the first presidential debate. george. >> okay, tom, thanks very much. let's go to the democrats now. and their front-runner, hillary clinton, hoping to put away the challenge from bernie sanders with a strong showing today. the big prize of pennsylvania is key and abc's david wright is on the scene in philadelphia right now. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning, george. we're at a union headquarters, the american federation of teachers, and just for today as you can see it is a hub of hillary clinton's get out the vote machine. union workers, teachers in this case, picking up voter lists, getting ready to knock on doors and get people to the polls. with their help she's expecting a big win today. closing out her campaign here at philadelphia's city hall, hillary clinton was brimming with confidence. >> look, i have the greatest respect for senator sanders but really what he and his supporters are now saying just doesn't add up. i have 2.7 million more votes than he has. >> reporter: but just outside -- >> feel the bern. >> reporter: busloads of bernie supporters intent on crashing the party. clinton is favored to win all five of the states voting today, virtually shutting down any pathway to victory for bernie sanders. but sanders is vowing to fight on. >> he's going to participate in every primary and caucus till the end. >> reporter: but already he sounds like he sees the end in sight. >> i will do everything in my power to make sure that no republican gets into the white house in this election. >> reporter: clinton is already looking past him, saving her sharpest jabs for the republicans. >> actually i think when you run for president you should tell people what you want to do. you shouldn't make promises you can't keep. you shouldn't just, you know, rant and rave with the trump-like demagoguery. >> reporter: already out on the stump you can hear clinton reaching out to those sanders supporters talking about the minimum wage, talking about rolling back citizens united hoping to win them over to her cause. robin. >> all right, david, thank you. let's look at the road ahead for the candidates. abc's jon karl is here in the studio with us to break it down. the all-important delegate count. jon, let's -- start with the republicans. >> reporter: well, robin, donald trump is already closing in on the 1,237 he needs to win. and if you look at the states that are voting today, these are the ones in dark red, they represent 172 delegates combined. that's as much as the state of california and trump is poised to win the majority of them which is why you see this deal between cruz and kasich. cruz is going to concentrate on the state of indiana which votes next week and is shaping up as a do or die primary for those wanting to stop trump. >> and so, what about the numbers for the democrats, jon? >> well, hillary clinton is even closer to getting the delegates she needs to win and if you look at the states for the democrats today, five states, four of them are closed primaries. that means independents cannot vote and bernie sanders has done very well with independents, in fact, he has not won a single closed primary so far. >> all right, jon, thank you. okay, let's talk to bernie sanders right now. he joins us from philadelphia this morning. senator sanders, thank you for joining us. right now you just heard jon karl right there. you've had some tougher luck in these closed all democratic primaries. can you pull off a miracle in pennsylvania today? >> i think we can. i think we're going to do very well in all five states and i think the reason, george, is our message is resonating. you know, when we begin this campaign we were 60 points behind hillary clinton, some recent national polls have us ahead of her. and in matchups against donald trump in almost every instance we are having a higher margin of defeating trump than is hillary clinton. so we are feeling good. we won 16 states already. i think we're going to have a chance to win more today and then it's out west where i think we have a very good chance to win the largest state in this country, california. >> but hillary clinton is most likely to be about 90% of the way there on delegates after tonight. and you and i talked on sunday and i asked you if you would do for her what she did for president obama back in 2008 after she lost she campaigned hard for him. you said that was totally dependent on what the clinton platform is. secretary clinton responded last night. listen. >> and i did not put down conditions. i didn't say, you know what, if senator obama does x, y and z maybe i'll support him. i said, i am supporting senator obama because no matter what our differences might be, they pale in comparison to the differences between us and the republicans. that's what i did. >> are you prepared to give her your unconditional support if she gets the delegates? >> well, george, george, i don't want to break the bad news to you, but the election is not over yet. we are here today competing in five states. we have ten more states to go after this and we're going to do the best that we can to bring our message that, in fact, it is too late for establishment politics and economics. george, i have been all over this country and i have been in inner cities where youth unemployment is 40%, 50% with childhood unemployment is off the charts where we are seeing incredible disparities between the rich and everybody else. we're the only country on earth, major country, doesn't guarantee health care to all of our people or paid family and medical leave. i'm going to give every person in this country the right to decide who is going to be president of the united states, what the agenda is of the democratic party. that's what our campaign is about, talking real issues, not process, not worries about what will happen when it will happen but let me repeat. i intend to do everything i can if i am not the nominee to make sure that some republican does not sit in the white house, but for the moment, we're going to fight all the way to the philadelphia convention and we're going to win as many delegates as we can and we believe we do have a path toward victory. >> all the way to the convention. that seems like a change when you said earlier in the week when you said you'd fight through california. even if she has the delegates after california you'll keep on fighting? >> we are going to fight through california and then we see what happens. here's one of the important points, george, to be made. and you correct me if i'm wrong on this, every national poll and every statewide poll that i have seen has bernie sanders doing significantly better against donald trump than is hillary clinton. is that right? i think that is right and i think -- >> but secretary clinton said she's gotten 2.7 more million votes than you have. >> well, first of all she is not accounting some of the caucus states but the point is, in virtually every national poll and in every statewide poll bernie sanders versus donald trump does significantly better than hillary clinton versus donald trump and that is true for other republican candidates, as well. the bottom line is, we have a message that is resonating not only with democrats but with independents, as well. and we are handicapped. i think we're going to do fine today. we know what the rules are and we're going to fight for every vote we can get in pennsylvania, connecticut, et cetera. but, in fact, in these states independents can't vote. we do a lot better with independents than hillary clinton does, guess what, independents do vote in the general election. >> senator sanders, thanks for joining us this morning. >> thank you. >> robin. >> we'll see what happens in the five primaries. now to the latest development in deflategate. a judge ruling that the patriots quarterback tom brady will have to sit out the first four games of next season after all. abc's linsey davis has the latest. it goes on and on. >> reporter: it goes on and on, good morning to you, robin. yes, tom brady's four-game suspension is now back in play but there are still a number of questions like, will brady appeal? will the nfl still enforce the full suspension? one thing that's clear, deflategate is not going anywhere any time soon. just when you thought it was over, deflategate is back in the headlines with all-star quarterback tom brady's playing status once again on the line. >> touchdown! >> reporter: on monday, a federal appeals court ruled in favor of the nfl. reinstating the new england patriots quarterback's original four-game suspension imposed by nfl commissioner roger goodell last may. the court saying goodell properly exercised his broad discretion and did not deprive brady of fundamental fairness. presidential candidate donald trump disagrees. >> leave tom brady alone. >> this decision basically says that roger goodell has the power to do what the union told him he could do. >> reporter: last year the nfl suspended brady for four games after an independent investigator found it more probable than not that brady was allegedly involved with patriots staff in an alleged scheme to take air out of new england's footballs to presumably make them easier to catch during this afc championship game against the indianapolis colts. >> i didn't alter the ball in any way. >> reporter: brady repeatedly denied any involvement in the alleged scheme and he took his case to court where his suspension was overturned. on monday, the nfl said it was pleased with the outcome of the hearing but the nfl players association expressed disappointment saying, our union will carefully review the decision, consider all of our options and continue to fight for players' rights. now, goodell has said from the beginning that this case isn't just about brady but it's about enforcing the nfl's rights in the collective bargaining agreement. now, brady could still appeal this latest decision and take it all the way to the supreme court. robin. >> we'll see if he does. all right, linsey, thank you. now to amy with the morning's other headlines, beginning with news out of north carolina. >> that's right. this is a court decision that is being watched closely across the country. a federal judge has upheld a controversial voter identification law in north carolina. the law requires a photo i.d. to vote. it also prohibits same day registration and voting. supporters including the republican governor say it will reduce voter fraud, critics argue it unfairly burdens minorities. the judge said opponents failed to show that and an appeal is expected. well, al qaeda has claimed responsibility for the murder of a gay rights activist who worked at the u.s. embassy in bangladesh. xulhaz mannan and a friend were stabbed on monday. an al qaeda group claims they were targeted for promoting homosexuality. the head of new york's september 11th memorial has now apologized to a group of middle school chorus students who were ordered to stop singing the national anthem at the site. a security guard ordered them to cease and desist because they didn't have a permit to perform. a spokesman now acknowledges that officer did not act appropriately and the kids who are from north carolina have been invited to return. well, in sports nba superstar steph curry will be out for at least two weeks because of a sprained knee. he is not the only star suffering during the playoffs. chris paul broke his hand during the clippers loss to the blazers. no word yet on how long he will be sidelined. and finally, dog lovers may have a hard time believing this one. a new study finds dogs do not like being hugged. scientists found dog's stress and anxiety levels rise when they're hugged and say dogs are built to run, not cuddle and would much rather get a pat on the head instead. 80% of the dogs they studied showed at least one sign of stress. when i hug brody i can hear him. he doesn't like it. like i can tell but i still hug him anyway. is that wrong? this morning, as the manhunt for the mother of three's killer intensifies her family is now saying they believe it just wasn't a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. bevers' mother-in-law, marsha tucker says she believes the killer may have tracked the fitness instructor's movement on social media. >> the person probably knew by looking at her facebook just seeing what time, that's how she showed her other boot campers, you know, what time the classes started, whoever knew she gets there early, they got there earlier. >> reporter: the 45-year-old was last seen entering this church at 4:20 a.m. on april 18th. setting up for a boot camp class. the suspected killer caught on surveillance video at 3:50 a.m. dressed head to toe in police s.w.a.t. gear. students for her 5:00 a.m. class discovering bevers' body. >> i can't tell whether the person is a man or woman. the police estimate this person is six foot tall but, if you look at the mannerisms, how they walk, there's something distinctive there. somebody has to be able to point this out. >> reporter: but more than a week later, police aren't releasing any new leads or motives. the beloved wife and mother laid to rest on saturday. her family pleads for the killer to come forward. tucker writing him or her an open letter on facebook. >> you know who you are. your husband, wife and family members know who you are. they know by your special walk. give some honor back to your family. god will forgive you and we will forgive you. >> now, marsha says that missy's daughters are doing better than expected. but that they're asking her how long they will be sad. she hasn't heard from police but she says she trusts them to do their job. and as for the killer she says the anger is still there but that the family will, quote, forgive them in time. >> got to be hard, though. okay, ryan, thanks very much. >> thank you. now to a fiery plane crash in florida. the plane smashing into a home shortly after takeoff bursting into flames and the desperate race against time to save the people caught inside. abc's david kerley all the details for us, good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning, robin. the story of survival and those three survivors fighting for their lives this morning facing significant burns on their bodies. as you mentioned, the crash right after takeoff. this morning investigators trying to determine why it crashed. intense flames in the florida neighborhood. >> okay, you got a totally engulfed house here. >> reporter: a small plane at the center of the inferno. >> aircraft crash, i'm being advised per the tower it's a half mile just east. >> as soon as i turned there was a fireball and then it was just a huge amount of black smoke. >> reporter: first responders rushing to find survivors. >> we have three patients, all patients are alive. >> reporter: one of those survivors ejected from the plane, two others walking away with the help of residents who braved the flames. >> i need you to handle the three patients real quick. >> copy. >> reporter: someone was at home in the house with the roof on fire but escaped. >> when the plane hit his house it actually bounced over one house and ended up in the yard of the next house. so, obviously, there were some very fortunate people. >> reporter: the faa says the twin-engine plane was practicing takeoffs and landings at the pompano, florida, airport going down a half mile from the runway. it's unclear whether it was a private plane or a flight school aircraft. >> did you see what happened? >> yeah, i saw it. that was a departure stall. >> reporter: this suggests the beechcraft duchess nosed up too much or lost an engine then plugged toward the ground. there are more accidents and deaths involving small planes in the u.s. every year, nearly four accidents every day, more than 260 deaths a year. now, those three survivors were burned over 30% to 40% of their bodies and are undergoing treatment this morning. both the ntsb and the faa are investigating the accident. george and robin. >> okay, david, thanks very much. and now dramatic rescue caught on camera when a hero leapt into action to save a teen pinned under his truck. abc's kayna whitworth has the story. >> reporter: this terrifying surveillance footage shows the moment 17-year-old cameron king's 6,000-pound truck fell right on his head. he had been working underneath when the jack tipped over. >> the whole car just collapsed and i was supporting as much as i could with my neck and shoulders. >> reporter: cameron flailing his arms and yelling for help. >> when this happened, i thought what's the best thing i can do? >> little leah is with us, all about flower girl fashion and we want you to look at some adorable girls. we'll see the latest trends in dresses and leah is still here revealing her own adorable flower girl dress. >> they're all adorable. >> all as we count down to our 24-hour live wedding event. it starts thursday right here in times square. >> love seeing those flower girls. that was great. let's get the morning rundown from amy. >> all right. good morning, everyone. the big story, decision day in the northeast. voters in five states heading to the polls, and donald trump is hoping to sweep today's primaries after hurling a fresh round of insults at his rivals. abc's tom llamas is in pennsylvania, the biggest state up for grabs today. tom, good morning. >> reporter: amy, good morning. it could be another big night for donald trump. pre-election polls show him way out in front in all five states voting today, and even though it may be a night of celebration for trump, 'he no the happy. the reason, governor john kasich and senator ted cruz have formed an alliance basically agreeing to stay out of each other's way in a few primary states that are voting later down the calendar. the goal, to hopefully win those states and deny some delegates to donald trump. now, trump also launched a bizarre attack yesterday against john kasich's eating habits saying that kasich goes on television and stuffs his face especially with pancakes. trump calling this, quote, disgusting. kasich says trump is just desperate, that all he can do is launch personal attacks. this as senator ted cruz is feeling very optimistic for the states moving forward, especially california and the next state up, which is indiana next tuesday, amy, that's one of those states where kasich and cruz agreed on. kasich has pulled out. cruz hoping to take that state from donald trump. amy. >> all right, tom llamas, thank you. and hillary clinton also looking to sweep all five today but bernie sanders telling george this morning the race isn't over yet and he is planning to fight until the convention. he cited polls showing him faring better than clinton in a matchup against donald trump. well, an appeal is expected after a federal judge upheld north carolina's voter i.d. law. critics say it discriminates against minority voters making it harder for them to vote but supporters say it will prevent fraud. well, the weather is making big news today. heavy winds blew away this canopy in southern california, and in texas, hail the size of softballs fell. today people from oklahoma to nebraska are bracing for potential tornadoes. that and much more in rob's forecast just ahead. well, the search is on now for a missing college student in georgia. monique priester has not been heard from since friday when she told her mother she was taking an uber car home. uber says it is working with investigators to try to help find her. well, the criminal case against bill cosby in pennsylvania is now moving forward. cosby was trying to get the sexual assault case thrown out because of a prior agreement with the prosecutor, but an appeals court has rejected that argument. and in michigan a 16-year-old has finished walking more than 100 miles across the state with his disabled brother on his back. he walked to the state capital to raise awareness about his younger brother's cerebral palsy. his brother walked the final half mile himself. the goal was to inspire people to embrace anyone with a disability. and finally, who doesn't like ketchup with their french fries? >> we believe women should not be passive participants in their lives but advocating for themselves constantly and goes double when it comes to fertility. for women who may not want to have a child right now but know they want to have one in the future egg freezing is just a way to sort of plan and prepare for that future. >> and it was somebody in the "redbook" family that was going through. >> exactly. it was nicole lapin. when she said she was going to freeze her eggs, we thought it was a perfect opportunity to bring this subject to our readers. >> i'm glad you did that. i know you are too, adrienne, because you said you've been thinking about this. what are some of the things going through your mind in considering this? >> well, you know, i'm a woman in my mid-30s, i am in a new relationship and we're in the process of trying to plan our framily. so i think this is an important topic because it's bringing an awareness to a subject that so many of us know very little about. >> and you said you haven't done the deep dive yet. >> i have not. i have not. i need a little bit of help. >> okay, well, this is where dr. jen -- >> yeah. >> describe the process here. >> think of it in terms of three basic stages. we divided it up based on those three stages and we gave it a relative scale and it's important, adrienne, when you look at this scale to remember this varies individual to individual, but we start with the workup, and this really consists of blood tests, some ultrasounds, in terms of money, a couple hundred to maybe a couple thousand dollars. not that much time, days to weeks and physical discomfort, little to none. then we move on to the stimulation process, and this consists of injection of high powered hormones and monitoring every day by ultrasound to look at your ovaries, this jumps up into the thousands and, again, it can take weeks just for one cycle. if you have to do more than one, months, and physical discomfort, a little more. a lot of women describe this as pms on steroids then you get to the retrieval process and this is an operating room procedure. it's done under anesthesia. this jumps up again, thousands of dollars, there is an o.r. fee. timewise it's just one day and physical discomfort varies, usually none, but in rare cases you can get something called hyperstimulation syndrome which is very uncomfortable. >> when you hear all this and not asking you to make a decision here on the spot, but it is a lot to consider. >> it is something to consider, it is. when you think about it, i think all things considered it is a lot that goes into the process, but i still think it's worthwhile if you have parental dreams. >> right. >> that you want to fulfill. >> and you do. >> i do. >> and many women do. >> i do. >> what do you say to those people, meredith, who say we shouldn't be talking about this? >> well, basically it was generated from two places, basically the running track at oregon where bowerman was always filling the shoes and stanford business school where i wrote about the track view industry and how to break into it. and so the two ideas kept growing and then finally i went to my father and said, i need to pursue this a bit. >> and you just knew that you wanted -- you didn't know exactly what it was that you wanted. and i appreciate that because there are many young people, you know you want something but you're not quite sure what it is and you get all trapped in your head and you just said go for it. >> yeah, i feel that way very strongly. i feel sorry for the people that know exactly what they're going to do from the time they're sophomores in high school. i think the process really needs to go through a time period before you really find what it is. >> yeah. >> but i will say a lot of people did think it was a crazy idea. i know that people around portland, oregon, phil knight has an mba from stanford and he's selling japanese track shoes. >> but you said you wanted to have fun. that's one thing that you knew that you wanted to do. >> right. well, i not unlike yourself, you know, wanted to be a professional athlete, but i was not that good, so i wanted to find a way to stay involved in sports. >> this was the way of doing it. and you were just relentless in how you went about it. was there ever a time that you thought this isn't -- i mean when you read the book, even though i know the outcome there are times i'm reading it and saying he's not going to make it. >> oh, absolutely. we were right on the edge a couple of times that i know i say was there ever a time, yeah, there were some times. the most scary when we got kicked out of the bank for the second time and they told me that they'd turned me into the fbi and i thought, well, these are a little tough times that they can't take the house but -- >> no. >> but i did say if we failed i was going to try it again because i was enjoying it so much. >> you were having fun and had this group of how you label them misfits. >> yeah. >> they can read the book and find out the other code name. >> the precise name. >> i was telling you this, i looked at that shoe. you didn't tell me and i said 1983, the pegasus because i was a senior in college and everybody wanted a pair of nikes. >> you blew me away with that. you named it right away. i'm not sure i would have. >> i know. why did you bring this particular shoe? >> well, they asked me what my favorite shoe was and that's the one, basically the shoe has been in the line for 43 years and that's what i wear to run in today although much slower. >> well, i say the older i get the better i was. >> that's for sure. >> hey, we have a question. zach johnson on twitter asks what was your best business decision from your career? >> i think there's no question it was when bill bowerman said i want to be your partner and i shook his hand and said deal. >> your old coach. >> it really all came from there. where would we have been without that. >> you're very good about sharing that you are the co-founder. that it was your crazy idea but you had all these people and just some kind of way it fit. it all fit together. >> no, i think it's true as far as business lessons that there's really never even just one person or even two people. that it takes a group of people to build something and we had our unique group. they were eccentric. i've often said i don't know if they were geniuses or near geniuses but they brought all the emotional baggage of geniuses. >> and what do you say to -- we've had a lot of people starting their businesses and a lot of people who watch and they have a passion. they want to have fun. what do you say to a young or any entrepreneur? >> well, i think there's a couple things. if you're going to be an entrepreneur you better be prepared for long hours and a lot of dark moments and i guess that's one thing that is shown in the book and i think you really have to have a passion about it and you have to have a reason to succeed. it isn't to be just something you want to be. that you have to have a niche and a passion. you need those two things. >> and you also are one of the most generous people that i know. $1 billion the last time you were there ohsu knight cancer institute. how is that going? >> fabulously. they just got a new executive director to come in and run the new program and he's -- he fits right in with brian. he is a genius himself and the program is going to produce a lot of results. >> i love how you say you want to give it away. you made a lot of money and you want to give it away and make life better for others. >> it's a blessing that i'm able to do it. >> it's a blessing to have you here. i love the shoes you have on. what are you running now these days?
