steve martin, jerry seinfeld, julia louis-dreyfus. pitch perfect farewell. >> we'll talk about it more later. breaking news, a suspect has been named in that mansion murder mystery. police hunting for this man right here, in the murder of three members of a family and their housekeeper. abc's ryan smith is in washington with the latest. good morning, ryan. >> reporter: good morning, robin. overnight police searching for a suspect on the run connected, they say, to four murders happening inside that home just one week ago and the key piece of evidence leading them to the suspect, a pizza crust. overnight authorities searching the suburban maryland home of 34-year-old daron dylon wint, going through trash and removing bags of evidence. they identify him as a key suspect in the brutal quadruple slaying and arson attack of businessman savopoulos, his wife amy and their 10-year-old son and housekeeper, vera figueroa. sources familiar with the case saying was identified by dna after a leftover domino's pizza ordered before the fire. abc spoke with a relative who said he was troubled. >> he's very hostile. he's arrogant. he doesn't listen. >> reporter: as we spoke to her police arriving at her door. >> the police want me to get off the phone. >> reporter: that pizza reportedly bearing wint's dna, now a major clue into what may have happened inside that upscale d.c. home. a siege apparently lasting hours. domino's delivering at 9:00 p.m. the night before the fire. the next morning starting at 7:00 a.m. police reports obtained by "the washington post" reveal savopoulos made a flurry of calls including to his bank and his accountant ending just over an hour before the blaze erupted. abc news also learning from a source familiar with the case that same morning, an assistant of savopoulos dropped $40,000 in cash by the house while the victims were apparently held captive inside. figueroa's husband speaking out telling abc news exclusively that he became alarmed when his wife didn't come home. >> i didn't hear from her and every time i call the phone it was just going straight to the voice mail. >> reporter: the morning of the fire actually going to the savvas savopoulos home to find his wife knocking on the door ringing the bell but before he could get close enough to see inside savopoulos called him saying, i'm sorry because i didn't call you last night, vera told me to call you she has to stay with my wife. >> reporter: he said he would call back so the housekeeper's husband goes home waiting for a call that never came. the suspect has a long list of petty crimes but in this case he's being charged with the ultimate crime, murder one. george. >> thanks very much. we turn to that oil spill in california. the governor declared a state of emergency as crews worked to clean up two slicks spreading nine miles each. kendis gibson brings us the latest. good morning, kendis. >> reporter: good morning, george. work crews have been out here cleaning this beach for the last 24 hours. as we walk around you can see a whole lot of oil all over the rocks. take a look at this guy, covered with thick black oil. we were out at sea yesterday checking out the conditions out there, there were plenty of oil spots all around overnight the governor of california declaring a state of emergency in santa barbara as disturbing new images show the growing impact of the major oil spill off the coast. volunteers collecting hundreds of buckets of oil from this beach, yet, hardly making a dent. what's it like seeing something like this in your own backyard? >> worst nightmare. >> reporter: the oil spewing for our hours from a busted 24-inch inch pipeline before being shut down the cause still under investigation. >> they were shut down, some of the pumps were a couple times due to mechanical issues and we had mechanics working on the line at that time. >> reporter: up to 105,000 gallons may have leaked out of the pipeline. >> we're all working to ensure everything is being done possible to clean up the spill. >> reporter: coast guard reporting there are two nearly nile- -- nine-mile long oil slicks along the coastline. two popular southern california beaches are closed indefinitely, campers forced to evacuate. officials facing a 24/7 cleanup effort that could take weeks. this is going to require a massive cleanup effort. in the meantime the oil slicks moving to the more pop louse area. santa barbara beaches. robin. >> now to the scary scene. a passenger tased by an officer in front of families. the suspect making it all the way to the gate and abc has the story for us. >> this cell phone video captures police tasing a man just feet away from gate 66 at l.a.x. as stunned passengers look on in shock. i'm told as he attempted to go through, he was stopped by a tsa officer and he was not cooperative. >> reporter: shawn diamond waiting for his flight witnessed it all. >> i heard a man screaming and yelling. i turned around, there was a uniformed officer following a man, yelling at the man to stop. the man refused. plainclothes officer showed up. they tasered him in the back. >> reporter: hollywood actor verne troyer shot this video of the suspect in what appears to be his initial encounter with police. the suspect slaps the officer and runs off. a moment later he is stopped again. >> stop, stop! >> reporter: but ignores the officer and continues walking towards the gate. >> stop now! >> reporter: just steps from the gate where an alaska airways flight ready for takeoff police stop him once and for all. >> he had a strange smile on his face the entire time. >> reporter: now that man was a ticketed passenger. he's currently at the hospital being treated for his injuries. once out he will be booked and could be charged with failing to go through screening and obstructing a police officer. george. >> okay, mara, thanks very much. we turn to a state department employee under arrest charged with hacking the women's college e-mail seeking to black mailing them called sextortion and pierre thomas is tracking the case. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. state department employee michael ford is accused of targeting the e-mail accounts of 250 people. it appears mostly college women. in at least two cases he was allegedly able to hack the accounts of young women and steal photographs of them in various states of undress. according to prosecutors. the extortion began. one victim identified as jane doe received a startling e-mail allegedly from ford. attached was a photo in a compromising position. the writer said i found you. what do you think? he demanded she record videos of other girls and that if she did not he was going to release the compromising photos of her online. george, if true, a terrible case. >> sure is. real sick. okay, pierre, thanks very much. >> downright scary. now the latest on that massive recall. nearly 34 million air bags that could potentially explode about one in seven drivers affected and still looking for answers this morning waiting to learn if their car is at risk. abc's david kerley has the latest from washington. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning, robin. as people start their commute they may not know whether the air bag in their steering wheel is part of the recall or passenger area because the government doesn't even have the numbers yet. air bag maker takata doubled the recall but whose car is recalled? >> if i go to safercar.gov, i can't even find out if my car is part of this. >> we have 11 different manufacturers to give us the data. it takes a while. we have to get it on line and make sure the parts will be available. >> reporter: the government is still waiting for carmakers to hand over numbers, which need them replaced to avoid the possibility that an air bag's explosive canister fractures into shards, shrapnel that killed five in the u.s. takata admits one out of every 160 recalled inflaters has shattered. the danger is real but the big unknown whether these replacement air bags will be safer than the recalled ones in the long term. >> if you can, get a replacement that will be safer than what you've got. nhtsa will be making sure to see that one is in your car that is safe for the time you have your vehicle. >> reporter: so the government hopes to have all those numbers on its website by early next week. how do you find your v.i.n. number? we're driving up right here, george. we'll show you. it's on the dash right underneath the windshield here. there are 17 letters and numbers. write them down much enter them into the system like i say early next week, find out if your car is part of this now expanded recall. >> david, thanks so much. now to the secret life of osama bin laden. a treasure trove of documents taken the night he was killed has just been released by the cia and shed new light on what he was thinking, reading and writing in his final days. our chief global affairs correspondent martha raddatz in washington with all the details. good morning, martha. >> reporter: good morning, george. this is a fascinating window into bin laden's years in hiding. years filled with trying to plot attacks on america while at the same time reading best-selling books about the u.s. efforts to hunt him down. the newly released documents collected from the bin laden compound by s.e.a.l. team 6 during the deadly raid in 2011. to one of his lieutenants he wrote "we have to focus on killing and fighting the american people." but the al qaeda lieutenants knew the u.s. was always watching. >> yes, i am. tell them to stop chasing me. >> reporter: officials say they started getting calls about the suspect around 11:30 p.m. after they say he stole a honda. >> he's still going westbound in the eastbound lanes on highway 4. >> reporter: with the police chopper above tracking his every move, authorities say the suspect reached speeds of 110 miles an hour. >> tell the helicopter to get off me. >> reporter: his terrifying final words to the dispatcher. >> ma'am, someone is going to die. >> reporter: the suspect eventually crashing into this suv in berkeley. inside, zia yarrow. >> out of nowhere. >> out of nowhere. i didn't even see it. >> reporter: but the chase didn't end there. police chasing the suspect on foot. he escaped. what do you make of his calls? "gma investigates" discovering dozens of cases of alleged pet grooming abuse and neglect throughout the country across numerous companies. one instance, caught on camera, watch as this groomer pulls on this dog's leg inside a petco grooming room in georgia. petco later terminated the employee writing in a statement "there are strict grooming protocols in place to ensure the safety and well-being of pets and we are very concerned by the conduct of the groomer in this video." >> dogs being injured at groomers is a pretty significant problem. >> reporter: animal rights organizations peta wants more oversight of it and unregulated industry. currently no state requires groomers to be licensed. >> we, unfortunately, hear about a lot of incidents, some animals are strangled when they fall off of grooming tables and some animals are abused by groomers who get violent and you're not there to protect your dog. >> i found out the hard way. >> reporter: rosemary's 6-year-old shih tzu bizou died. being groomed at a competing chain. >> i sought out a large chain thinking everybody there was licensed to find out they're not. this way was shocking. >> reporter: she sued the groomer and settled out of court. today she is pushing new jersey to pass a law that would require pet groomers to be licensed. >> there will be some kind of legislation so you know when you go in, you'll get a licensed professional and not somebody who may be doing it for the summer to make a paycheck. there's a big difference. >> reporter: what can you do if your pet is a victim? >> start by telling the owner of the establishment. report it to the police because every state has a cruelty to animals statute. basically tell everyone. don't let a groomer get away with this. >> reporter: hanna says she'll keep complaining until something changes. >> there needs to be something in place so that there are people who are trained who are taking care of our pets. >> reporter: for "good morning america," cecilia vega, abc news, san francisco. >> got to fight for your family. >> who knew about the licensing? now controls more than half of the nation of syria after capturing the city of palmyra, which is home to ancient ruins. this comes only days after isis took control of ramadi, a strategic city in western iraq. a state of emergency is in effect right now in california after an oil spill off the coast of beautiful santa barbara. up to 105,000 gallons have leaked from a ruptured pipeline. the slick stretching for nine miles. the company that runs the pipeline reportedly has a history of safety and maintenance infractions. in medical news this morning scientists say a revolutionary new device the size of a matchbox could be the most effective weapon yet in the fight against obesity and abc's linsey davis explains how it works. >> reporter: this morning, new hope for the nearly one-third of obese adult americans in the form of a tiny implant called the v-bloc. the fda approved pacemaker-like device is implanted into the abdomen. it works by sending electrical pulses through the nerve pathway between the brain and the stomach helping patients to feel full. >> the patients have less hunger, more satiety. and they can actually go longer between meals in terms of eating. >> reporter: the gadget is only available to those severely overweight and who have at least one medical problem related to obesity. in trials the average patient lost 28% of their excess body weight. it the story we first saw in "the new york times" and paula faris has the latest. >> reporter: you know them by name, rockstar, red bull and monster, some of the biggest brands in the energy drink industry. but there's also a drink growing in popularity called gfuel that advertises to be all natural and it's trying to reach a new audience of gapers. >> hi, i'm going to hit the late -- >> reporter: doug martin who is sponsored by gfuel plays video games up to 12 hours a day. >> when i'm playing in a big tournament it makes me feel alert and confident. i never had a crash or a jitter. >> reporter: but doctors say it has the same amount of caffeine as other energy drinks. >> this energy drink that's proclaiming to be natural and healthy has taken out of it the chemicals in sugars but it's incorporated in what they're calling herbals or natural substances. these actually interact with the caffeine and can be more dangerous. >> reporter: we reached out to gamma labs for comment. the company saying the ingredients in gfuel are blended at ratios to maximize focus and concentration. among energy drinks we are one of the healthiest choices on the market and as with any calf nated product moderation is advisable. some energy drink manufacturers have come under attack for marketing to children. causing the top makers to stop targeting kids under 12 years old. but overall, sales still booming. >> one-third much video gamers are under the age of 18. they're into motocross, skateboarding, women in bikini, all of these are used in the marketing campaigns. that's not an accident. >> reporter: for "good morning america," paula faris, abc news, new york. >> okay, dr. jen ashton here now and these things are labeled all natural but all natural isn't always good. >> that doesn't always mean safe. look at this as a visual analogy. i thought dan might be hungry so i brought him some breakfast. these represent some of the ingredients that you can see in a lot of energy drinks, so if you look at yogurt as the caffeine, blueberries as something like sugar. granola as something called guarana and raspberries as taurine, but when you mix them together as you do in a lot of energy drinks, grab that, lara, then they have -- they can have different effects and the fact is, you just don't know how they're going to add up. >> there's new research that says that these drinks have the possibility of linking to other problems. >> right, now, listen, you have to consider this to be clear in moderation, a little bit of energy drink certainly in an adult, no problem. when you're talking about teens and adolescents that's where you can get into trouble and the literature has found an association, not a cause and effect but association between these energy drinks and things like increased use of video game, decrease in sleep, caffeine toxicity and go on to see other high risk behavior, alcohol consumption and smoking and decreased school performance. this is something we need to be on the lookout for. >> you mentioned video gaming. do we know anything more about extended -- >> research is ongoing. almost every teenager including my son is doing it. a little bit can be fine. they've actually shown some positive effects with something like nintendo wii with traumatic brain injuries. >> i'm told by my son there are many positive effects. >> my son too so we'll be following it. we don't know a lot. and research is continuing. >> when you finish mixing that, can you hand it down here? >> yes. >> taking questions all morning on twitter. >> exactly. >> thank you. >> you bet. now, on the "gma investigates," just as wedding season really gets going, for brides the right dress is one of the most important parts of the big day and mara schiavocampo is back as a word of warning about dresses that turn out to be disasters. what's this about, mara. >> reporter: a lot of brides finding their big day is ruined with 9 average cost of a gown more than $1300 a growing number of brides are seeking a bargain online but what they're finding is that looks can be deceiving and sometimes you get what you pay for. ♪ it's what nearly every woman hopes will be her dream day, not a nightmare. >> i was crying, i was hysterical. >> reporter: to save money and time in planning her wedding new mom sara weber ordered her dress online. here's what she wanted. a beautiful lace gown, but when it arrived just two weeks before the wedding she says it looked nothing like the picture. >> there's black dirt on the bottom of the dress. strings hanging out the bottom. it's heartbreaking when you want something to look so beautiful and it just is a hot mess. >> reporter: there are tons of websites, many based in china selling wedding dressing and bridal party attire some customers have found to be subpar. on sitejabber thousands of complaints and facebook has pages devoted to dress disasters. >> these dresses smell like fish. >> reporter: "gma investigates" ordered three dresses from chinese based websites with complaints to see what would happen. we sent exact measurements, one of our producers standing in for a bride and bridesmaid. two had real problems. >> we can't zip this shut. this won't stay up. it didn't arrive totally clean. a lot of the edges are unfinished. >> reporter: but it's not just brides getting a bum deal. some sites are outright stealing designs offering designer dresses at a fraction of the price even taking photos from designers' websites but what brides get is often far from the real deal. the problem so bad the american bridal and prom industry association just released a public service announcement. >> i've been hearing a lot of horror stories. >> reporter: we visited martin thornburgh, head designer for david tutara wedding gowns to see how different the fakes are from the real thing. how does it feel to you when you see the counterfeit of your design? >> it's very upsetting. you would almost call it a halloween costume. >> reporter: he ordered these dress, rip-offs of his own designs from 1 of 1100 counterfeit dress websites that a federal court ordered to shut down. >> on this dress, you can see they've used all plastic stones. that's why these look black. >> reporter: the fakes cost less than $320. his real designs are nearly a thousand dollars more. thankfully for sara she found a new dress at david's bridal and got rush alterations. >> spend a little bit of extra money because in the long run, it'll be worth it. >> now, aside from some of the smaller details one of the big issue is fit where a bride will notice if her dress is slipping down or can't zip it up. if you have a question where to find an authenticated retailer, go to the designer's site. they will have a list of authenticated ones. one is fake. one is real. the issue is -- >> really that. >> that's going to be the biggest problem. your big day. you don't want to do this all day. >> no. >> as you said you get what you pay for. >> absolutely. >> all right, mara, thank you. indeed, next on our "gma heat index." the booted bachelorette britt nilsson didn't win the hearts of the men that sent her packing in favor of kaitlyn but may have found love anyway. abc's nick watt spoke with her. >> reporter: this season the bachelorette began with two ladies and the guys got to choose which one stayed. you thought you were going to be the one. >> i really did. >> brit, unfortunately you're not going to be the bachelorette. >> i almost wish i hadn't met them. because that makes it a lot harder to walk away from. >> reporter: so you were doing a lot of crying in the back of that car. are you okay? oh, gosh. i promise never to refer to your journey -- your illness as a journey unless someone is taking you on a cruise. >> yes. >> that's perfect. that's perfect. so tell us the meaning behind these. >> thank you. so, you know, i personally had cancer 15 years ago. i had hodgkin's lymphoma, and when i was sick, people -- one that was surprising and hard was how nobody knew what to say and even people who are really well intentioned and trying, you know, when you get sick, you feel like an alien, and your reality is suddenly so different than everyone around you, and so when people try to relate sometimes the things that they say that come out of their mouth end up you feel worse or -- or people disappear because they don't know what to say. >> right. >> and that's really hard too, and i really wanted to make something that spoke to people that were going through a hard time because get well cards traditionally, there's not much for people who are very sick. >> there's a misunderstanding of people who have gone through it. i know you had a friend, amy. >> yes. >> after you had your illness and she did, and that also opened your eyes to wanting to do something for people. >> it really did. it really did. after i went into remission, i really sort of put it behind me and then amy got sick four years ago, and i realized really for the first time -- >> there you are together. yes. >> i realized for the first time that my experience had given me a perspective where i could speak to people who are going through an illness in a way that maybe some other people couldn't. >> what's your favorite card? >> my personal favorite card is this one. >> what is it? >> it says, when life gives you lemons, i won't tell you a story about my cousin's friend who died of lemons. >> what do you mean by that? i know what you mean by that. >> i mean that sometimes when you're sick, a thing that happens a lot is people will come up to you and trying to relate, it's all really well intentioned, will say, oh, my gosh, you know, you have this, oh, i know someone who had this and they died, and you're like why did you just tell me that? >> what do you do with that? >> what do you do with that? >> it is awkward for people, but as you said, it's well intended and you found different ways of making gifts because people are always asking me, what can i give, what can i do? i partnered up with king's hawaiian because they're the softest, tastiest bread and it's going to be perfect for this meat. treat your meat right first. treat your grill right. get a little oil. get a little towel here, right. reserve one of your towels for the grill and just do this. just do that really quick before you put your meat on. >> but make sure you don't get burnt. >> no, but you can use tongs for that. when you have lobster claws like this and put your meat on. now we're ready to grill but first you got to marinate this meat. we're going to make a sweet and sour pork slider. >> let's do it. let's do it. >> here we go. >> number one, some soy sauce here. >> i'm just going to get in and help you. is that all right. >> yeah, please get in there. little chinese five spice, a little garlic powder, a little bit of that brown sugar, a little honey. >> oh. "brown sugar," another great rolling stones song. >> and the secret ingredient to this, red food coloring. >> red food coloring. >> because it makes it look like that awesome chinese take-out. barbecue pork spare ribs. it gets nice and red. >> okay. >> here, i'll stir. >> you help me out. dump it on this. we're using pork shoulder. nice and fatty. >> is shoulder your favorite? >> shoulder, i love it. you can use butt but you want to marinate it overnight. you need butt for your buns always. >> all right. >> you don't marinate the butt overnight just to be clear. >> up to four hours. >> i keep saying the word butt because i'm very immature. >> sorry. >> you can put it on your well-oiled grill, remember, so it's not going to stick to the grill, now, and you're going to do this over low, about 250 degrees. >> how long -- >> about an hour each side. >> you have a specific suggestion when it comes to the buns. >> exactly, right. >> king's hawaiian. >> i love king's hawaiian. it's the perfectly -- it's delectable, it's irresistible. >> a little buttery. >> spongy sweet, right, so it's like eating a pillow. >> in fact, they brought a truck here which is where all this food is coming from. >> thank you for that. >> right over there. i saw it. you don't just want to throw your soft buns on the grill, just going to toast -- the convex of heat will make it too hard. so you want to paint it with a little oil like this. and throw it back into that skillet. >> oh, all right. >> right, because we're going to put a cast iron skillet right on the grill. they're giving us a very hard wrap. final, final tip. >> all right, take those delicious soft buns, wrap them in parchment paper when you put your hot dog on it, that way it steams up the bun. it's like being at the ballpark and they can put their accoutrement on top of the bun you sit there an the lawn chair and with king's hawaiian bread, and look at that. >> i can tell you it's delicious. >> taste and make. we've got the recipes on our website so check it out. check it out. thank you, jeff mauro. thank you, king's hawaiian, and let's -- robin, i'm coming in with your food. >> yes. >> disneyland's 60th anniversary celebration is next.
