Our Kendis Gibson is in ferguson with the very latest on the search. Hi, kendis. Reporter paula, good morning. The update were getting from the county police chief saying they have no suspects. They are zero persons of interest but they do have plenty of leads. Overnight ferguson very much on edge, showers dampening attendance at a late night vigil. Were not going nowhere until we start seeing some changes. Reporter but doing little to calm tensions in the st. Louis suburb as a manhunt intensifies. This morning, county police scouring new images of wednesday nights shooting of two Police Officers from departments outside ferguson. Police officers and protesters carrying umbrellas. One officer lieutenant even admitting that hes been scared since last august. Baby step, dan. Baby steps. Peaceful dialogue. Kendis, thank you. Were going to move on now to the riveting new video that came out overnight. Look at these images from a body camera attached to one of the First Responders pulling an 18monthold out of a vehicle that had flipped over into an icy river in utah. And, wow, to see her singing with her dad after seeing her in that car in that terrible situation is extraordinary. So resilient, just speaks to the resiliency of toddlers. And we want to say that we are happy to have ryan smith in for ron today. We give ron a day off every now and then. Thats right. Great to have you here, ryan. Great to be here. I can feel rons presence. Dan, paula, good morning. We begin with a major ice cream recall now linked to three deaths. Texasbased ice cream giant blue bell has stopped production and distribution of several products linked to a deadly foodborne illness. Five patients were treated at a kansas City Hospital kansas hospital after eating ice cream products from blue bells brenham, texas, headquarters. Three of the patients do you. The fda is urging consumers to check your freezers. If you have any of these eight products in your home, do not eat the ice cream. The state department temporarily shut down parts of its email system after a massive Security Breach believed to have been linked to russian hackers. The planned outage is affecting parts of the departments unclassified computer network. The shutdown comes amidst the the Hillary Clinton email scandal. The former secretary of state said earlier this week she believed her emails were archived by the department, but on friday the state Department Spokesman revealed that automatic email archiving began just last month. And salvage efforts are under way for the black hawk helicopter that crashed in thick fog off the florida panhandle. One of the marines killed was Staff Sergeant andrew seif. Hes seen here less than a week before the crash standing with his wife where he was awarded the silver star for combat valor. Seif was one of seven marines killed in tuesdays crash along with four National Guardsmen who have not yet been identified. And take a look at this Wild Police Chase in British Columbia last month. A man on a motorcycle speeds through the streets before hitting inside a packed mall. Take a look at this. He plunges down the elevator. The rider zooming through sliding glass doors narrowly right here missing a mom and her child. Finally its deja vu all over again in florida. Take a look at this huge tenfoot gator on a leisurely stroll in the middle of a fairway. This is in palm harbor, that is on friday. That is a massive huge. Not sure if hes a distant relative to this guy who some call the dinosaur who was earlier seen this week further south. He decided to crash the greens in inglewood, and just so you know, both times the golfers said lets take a break and let these guys play through. Its difficult like a par course mash maybe its like exactly. Rather than a sand trap you got to hit around the gators. Through the gators and then make the shot. Its the trick shot. Thats right. The trick shot. The risk your life shot. Ryan, stand by. We want to talk to you about a big story we know youve been covering. Yes, theres a big, new development in a riveting court case. Two young girls at the center of it all, they are charged with stabbing a classmate to please a fictional internet character called slenderman. Well, now a judge has made a decision on whether they should be tried as adults, and, ryan, i know you have been following this case closely from the start. Yes, and a big development. Morgan geyser and anissa weier were just 12 years old when they were charged with attempted murder of their sixth grade classmate but yesterday in court still looking like children, a judge deciding the court should treat them like adults. They shuffled into a wisconsin courtroom, bound in handcuffs and leg irons. 12yearold Morgan Geyser and 13yearold anissa weier are accused of attempted first degree murder and this morning, their case will remain in adult court. The probable cause exists to believe that miss weier and miss geyser each attempted to kill her with the use of a dangerous weapon. Reporter Authorities Say last may they lured friend and sixth grade classmate Payton Leutner into the woods stabbing her 19 times and leaving her for dead to please a fictional internet character, slenderman. After the hearing, the judges decision weighing heavily on geysers parents but for the victims parents speaking exclusively with abcs david muir last september, their daughter paytons safety matters most. Do you think they should be charged as adults . For me its about making sure payton feels safe, that she can move on with the rest of her life. Reporter last month we heard from the girls for the first time, geyser telling police about the shadowy internet figure they say prompted their attack. Whos slenderman . Hes this tall, faceless man who preys on children. Reporter and weier telling them she feared for her life. He targets children most, and so i was really scared knowing that slenderman could easily kill my whole family in three seconds. Reporter but if convicted of the charges they face in adult court, both girls could face up to 65 years in prison. Thats a critical piece. Now both girls now have separate hearings where they can argue once more to move the case to Juvenile Court. And, again, a big difference for these defendants. In adult court theyre looking at up to 65 years in prison while in Juvenile Court a conviction would result in confinement until the age of 25. Huge difference. Yeah. Ryan, thank you. We want to switch gears now to a fresh surprise from the pope, a man whos been shaking up the vatican for two years now. Now hes saying that he might actually retire at some point rather than serving as pope until he dies, which is the tradition. He will be following in the unusual footsteps of his predecessor benedict and abcs david wright is on the story. Reporter in two quick years hes put a fresh face on this 2,000yearold church, the soul of humanity in an institution not always known for it. But pope francis now says his days are numbered. [ speaking a Foreign Language ] i have the feeling my pontificate will be brief. Four or five years or two or three he told mexicos televisa. Francis points to the example set by his predecessor, the first pope in more than a thousand years to retire, saying that Pope Benedict should not be an exception but an institution. He was pretty vague about the timetable. He did not fix any deadlines. But he is 78 years old and i think theres a sense that the clock is ticking. Reporter its not that hes sick of the job, but the 78yearold pope jokes that he misses being able to go out in rome unrecognized for a pizza. [ speaking a Foreign Language ] reporter still has work to do. Francis has been busy retooling the message of the church focusing on poverty and social justice, reforming the Church Hierarchy too, and hes creating more cardinals, which could make a big difference in the conclave that eventually chooses his successor. We could eventually have two retired popes still living, plus a new pope, unprecedented. What if he does retire one day . I dont think he would be hidden away in the vatican like Pope Benedict is. Reporter maybe then pope francis can finally enjoy his pizza. For good morning america, david wright, abc news, new york. This is a man who has made so many changes in such a short period of time. And its interesting watching his interview. I cant understand anything he says except for the word pizza. That i got. Let him have his pizza. It would definitely be an interesting possibility. Hes certained it. A couple of pizza, stuffed crust even. We do want to move now to a new kids eat right label that will soon be appearing on kraft singles, those individually wrapped slices of processed cheese. That label, you can see, is from the academy of nutrition and dietetics and it might be a little confusing because it looks like an endorsement but really it is not. So lets turn to dr. Richard besser, so, rich, if its not a seal of approval from the academy, exactly what is this . Its confusion is what it is, so the academy has a program called kids eat right, and its a website that gives tips on how to give your kids a nutritious diet, things that you can do. They entered into an agreement with kraft where kraft is helping support this. Theyre giving money to the academy to support this program and in exchange they get to put this label on their product. It looks, though, like the academy is endorsing the product and while processed cheese product slices can be part of a healthy diet, theres a lot of calcium and vitamin d there, theyre also high in saturated fat and salt. You dont want to eat a lot of these. Its not a health food. So kraft is paying the academy. I want to read, a kraft spokesman tells abc news, kraft and kids eat right will collaborate on a Nutrition Education campaign for three years to raise awareness of the diets of americas kids are lacking in three important components, dairy, calcium and vitamin d. But the label as you said is going to be hard to read if not impossible for parents to differentiate so what is the underlying lesson for parents . Well, theres been a whole movement to try and clean up labels, make them easier to understand, and if it turns out this is very confusing, it is something the federal trade commission can come in and say that label is inappropriate but when youre shopping, read the label very carefully. The idea is real food, and youll find that around the store, around the outside of the store in particular, fresh fruits and vegetable, lean proteins, you want to limit the amount of processed food because thats where you see the added sugar, the added salt. Doesnt mean you cant have any of it, but the idea of whats a healthy food, weve been trying to drill that into people, and i get very worried when theres something that could confuse the yes. Picture. No matter how you slice it, this could be very confusing. Dr. Richard besser. You couldnt resist. I couldnt resist. A cheesy comment. On behalf of paula, i apologize. Thank you. Eat real food, though. Such an important thing. It really is. Yeah. Rich, thank you. On a lighter note now were going to talk about the royal baby countdown. A heavy pregnant a heavily pregnant duchess kate sporting navy as she joined her husband and the queen at an event to pay tribute to those who fought in afghanistan. Paula is looking at me. I didnt mean to say she was heavy. I meant heavily pregnant. Never say anything derogatory about a pregnant woman. Yes, i didnt mean it. She looks beautiful. I promise. Abcs lama hasan has more now from Kensington Palace. Lama, save me, please. Reporter good morning to you, dan. Were outside Kensington Palace this morning where kate has been spending the past couple of weeks because of her packed royal schedule, four events in the last week alone looking every bit like a royal yummy mummy. Three generations of royals were out in full force to pay tribute to the british servicemen and women fighting in afghanistan. And we honor the faithfulness of all those who gave up their lives reporter a somber day, punctuated with a little humor from the new guard, wills and kate seen exchanging a few chuckles, and doesnt she look swell . But take a look at this. The 8month pregnant kate looks like shes clutching her bump sending royal reporters into a spin. Could the unborn heir be giving his momma a royal kicking . It was the first time weve actually seen her hold the baby bump, which was clearly kicking at that engageme
