A lot like it is right now. So many calling this story of survival, a miracle. Out of the rubble, 7yearold secondgrader, sailor gutzler, whose survival and strength is cap capty ty vating a nation. The sole survivor climbing out of this downed twinengine plane to get help for her parents, marty and kim, 9yearold sister, piper, and 14yearold cousin sierra, not realizing it was too late. She obviously wanted us to find her family. She did tell us that she feared that they were dead but she was hopeful that they were only sleeping. Reporter the plane took off from key west, florida, friday night. Marty gutzler, an experienced pilot, flying his family back home to illinois from their vacation. Just before 6 00 p. M. , he reported engine problems. Air Traffic Controllers quickly losing contact. The plane crashed upside down. Police believe sailor was sitting in the back of the plane that wasnt crushed. With a broken wrist, she climbed out with her other arm. She tried lighting up a stick in the flaming wreckage. Hoping to use it as a torch to see, but that didnt work. Alone, in 38 degrees, wearing nothing but shorts, a shirt, and a sock, she set out into the woods. Its tough to maneuver through all of this in the daytime. Imagine what she must have been going through in total darkness. From the air we see her journey. Heres the planes wreckage. Over here, threequarters of a mile away a house, sailor spotting the porch lights. It took her about a half hour to get to the house. The 7yearold has just come out of the woods alone, scratched up. I believe she was involved in a plane crash. Reporter Larry Wilkins answering the door. I wouldnt want to go out there in the woods right now in the dark without any lights whatsoever. Wouldnt want to do it. Shes a brave little girl. Reporter here in kentucky its a story that makes even the most hardened First Responders cry. To see this little girl walk out of there and survive that crash . Just, absolutely amazing. Very much so. I had a ive got an 8yearold little girl. I cant imagine her going through what what this little girl went through. Reporter i think a lot of parents in america are thinking that. Absolutely. Hug your daughters and sons. Were going to get the latest on the airasia disaster. Five large sections of wreckage have been detected by sonar. The bad weather are keeping deep sea divers away from them. Was it weather . Even though we have been told that modern jetliners can survive severe storms. This morning, a better picture of what is on the bottom of the java sea. The indonesians finally asking the u. S. Ship to look for wreckage. The uss ft. Worth just wrapping up its second day. We can see everything on the sea floor using the computer. Its all in realtime. Its incredibly clear. We can see everything as small as a golf ball. Reporter so far, the indonesians say they have detected five large pieces of the airbus 8320 which disappeared more than a week ago with 162 on board. The pilot radioing he wanted to turn and climb to avoid severe weather. Minutes later, no response from the plane which just then disappeared off radar. Did weather play a role . Could it have caused this crash . The Indonesian Weather Service even suggests that. But experts say its too early to know. The storm could have been a distraction. You could have had something totally unprecedented in the history of airbus. A sudden catastrophic failure of the flight controls. Reporter thats why the flight recorders, those black box, are so important. This u. S. Ship now on site might be able to help locate the boxes and the answers to this mystery. Of course, the batteries on the black boxes have three weeks of battery life left. But this morning, the indonesians say they havent heard the boxes. They have five vessels listening for the pingers on the boxes. And, david, could those black boxes give any indication whether weather was to blame here . Oh, absolutely. It will give a readout of what the aircraft was reading on its radar. What the pilots did. How they reacted to it. Did Flight Services on the aircraft malfunction . Now to the trial of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev beginning this morning. Hes accused of plotting the explosions near the marathon finish line almost two years ago. Security is tight here at the courthouse behind me with memories still fresh of what happened at the Boston Marathon 21 months ago. Though he hasnt been convicted of anything, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev could be the most hated man in this city. Police boats patrolled the waters this morning as bombsniffing dogs circled the courthouse for what is expected to be a long, and for many, painful trial. Jury selection will begin today, despite unsuccessful effort tsarnaevs lawyers. To delay the trial, or even move it elsewhere, claiming he cant get a fair trial here. I want to see the death penalty. Reporter liz plans to be at the trial every day. Her two sons each lost a leg in the bomb blast. The two brothers can be seen in this photo taken at the marathon shortly before the bomb went off. Not far away is the man identified by the fbi is tsarnaev alleged pli placely placing the backpack with that bomb in it. I think hes an animal. He knew when he dropped that backpack there was kids, women, families. His intentions were to do exactly what he did. Reporter his older brother, tamerlan, was killed in a Police Shootout four days after the attack. The younger tsarnaev was captured in a massive manhunt that shut down the city. And whether his son was responsible for pulling the trigger. 70yearold Thomas Gilbert sr. Found shot in the head in his east side home just blocks from the United Nation sunday. One neighbor hearing a loud noise coming from this apartment. Something just kaboom. Like, just hit the floor loudly. Reporter authorities quickly naming his 30yearold son, tommy jr. , a person of interest. Taking him in for questioning several hours later. Though, they say there have still been no arrests and no charges filed in the case. This woman, who neighbors say is the victims wife, was spotted leaving the building with investigators. But the accomplishment that made stu most proud the most important thing i do, im a dad. Reporter sydni and taelor were unquestionably the reason he fought so fiercely to beat back the cancer that attacked his body. What i always wanted, needed with them for them, is to be a dad. The San Francisco police chief plans to hold a town hall meeting this week to discuss a Fatal Police Shooting in the parking lot of the mission station. The shooting happened last night around 5 30 in a parking lot thats restricted to the public. Police say officers asked a 32yearold man to leave the lot but he refused. The chief says the man reached into his waist band and drew what they thought was a weapon. Officers thought him three times. He died at the hospital. Reporter the accusations against Prince Andrew surfacing in newly filed Court Documents. A woman, named as jane doe number 3, saying she was forced to have sexual relations with Prince Andrew as a teenager on three separate occasions. The exhaust of Sarah Ferguson denying the allegations. Buckingham palace releasing statements, it is emphatically denied that the duke of york had any form of Sexual Conduct with jane doe number 3. In a case like this where the allegations are really very serious, there has to be a robust response. There has to be a clear, firm indeed an angry legal response. Reporter the allegations emerging as part of a civil lawsuit over an agreement with this man, jeffrey epstein. The billionaire banker pleaded guilty in state court in 2008 for solicitation of a minor in prostitution. Jane doe number 3 and other alleged victims claim the deal he struck to avoid federal prosecution violated their rights. The new filing also claims jane doe number 3 was kept as a sex slave with epstein making her available for sex to politically conducted and financially powerful people including Prince Andrew and hes not the only one. Youre saying at no time was it possible for you to have been alone with this young woman . Absolutely not. Reporter renowned harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz also had sexual relationships with jane doe number 3 which he see mys, the Court Documents say. He says he wants her to speak out so he can sue her for libel. Please speak out. Reporter says im looking forward to vindicating my rights as an innocent victim. No comment from the epstein camp. The accusations keep on coming. Jane doe number 3 claiming she met with the queen of england, something the palace strongly denies. As for Prince Andrew, the fifth in line for the throne, hes in the hot seat. Coming back from his swiss skiing vacation for consultations with palace advisers. They are taking this very seriously. Typically, the palace doesnt respond to this kind of stuff. They have to respond to this and these kinds of allegations. Theyve made three denials already, from a palace that ordinarilily doesnt respond at all. Alan dershowitz is challenging her and her lawyers to come out in public and make the allegations. Why . When you make an allegation in legal papers, you cant sue over it. Its protected. Dershowitz is saying, i challenge you to make these exact same allegations outside of legal papers so i can take legal action against you for saying it. Thats more than just a denial, its a challenge. Why are we seeing this . Its all connected to this epstein case. These two alleged victims who said they never should have cut this deal with him. They never should have agreed not to prosecute him. Now you have these two new alleged victims saying we want to join in that lawsuit. And heres why were relevant to the case. Thats where they list the allegations. This is a civil lawsuit. Some would say they didnt need to get into all these allegations to make the case. The lawyers for the alleged victims would say were demonstrating why were relevant to this particular lawsuit. Any chance this leads to criminal charges for Prince Andrew . I dont think so. The Small Business administration is opening an Outreach Center today to help victims impacted by the storms get low interest federal loans. Loans are available to homeowners renters, nonprofits and businesses of any size in san mateo, alameda, San Francisco and santa clara and santa cruz counties. The center opens this morning at 9 00. Reporter off camera, shes waged a personal battle against her weight. I carried it as my private shame my whole life. Reporter an overweight child, she was often ridiculed by a Family Member leading to a bingeating disorder and depression all of which shes sharing in her new book thinspired. How difficult was that to write . That has been my dirty secret my whole life. When i was in my early 20s, i was living alone. I finished eating a whole box of ice cream sandwiches. I remember hiding the rappers and the box in the trash. Hiding it from yourself in a way. So writing about it has been freeing for me. Because im taking that power back. Good girl. Reporter taking back the power and her body after having her daughter three years ago, mara was at her heaviest 230 pounds, and determined to get it off. Giving herself no excuses. She lost 90 pounds after developing her own personal approach. Focusing 70 on food 10 on exercise. 10 on planning. 10 on sleep. And completely eliminating her trigger foods, including flour, dairy, candy, and wine. When im in a situation like this, all this, i dont look at. I dont see it. Reporter shes encouraging all women who have lost weight to help others who are trying in essence, becoming a weight loss mentor. Stephanie is a legal assistant. How much do you want to lose . 75 to 100 pounds. Reporter following the thinspired plan. Were going to have a funeral for the popcorn. Okay, okay. Hi reporter after two weeks, stephanie lost six pounds. Youve been doing so, so good. Yea. Its been so rewarding to see how this has helped people. I have abused food. Im going to fight. This is exciting but you guys are torturing me. You talked about your food poisons. How you avoid them altogether. How difficult is it when theyre laid out in front of you . I had to get rid of the stuff. Theres a myth you can have everything in moderation. For me, that was as true as telling an alcoholic you can have a drink in moderation. And i know im not the only one who feels that way. I had to eliminate certain foods. Flour, dairy, candy, the grains for awhile but i have since added them back in. And pizza. Once i got rid of the foods, losing weight became easy. It was hard to get rid of them. I talk in the book about how i was able to do that. But you can do it. Then youre free. You are free and you look fantastic. You talk about the importance of regular weighins. You step on the scale every day. I do. I have a saying i tell myself. The more you weigh, the less youll weigh. You step on the scale every day, youre reminding yourself of the mission. It takes the anxiety out of it. Its not like weighin day is the first of the month. Its just another day. Youll never get on the scale and find yourself 10, 15 pounds heavier if youre weighing yourself every day. As soon as that weight starts to creep up youll reel it back in. That makes a lot of sense.
