While not identified by police, eyewitnesss and Law Enforcement sources say he is jaylen fryberg, a Football Player and popular student. From what i heard, there were a couple of bullying incidents that happen where some people had said something about him in a class. And, you know, he the way he handled it, he did fight the kids. Reporter twitter offers some clues, jaylen writing thursday morning, it wont last. Itll never last. He seemed to be upset earlier in the week, tweeting, it breaks me, it actually does. I know it seems like im sweating it off, but im not and i never will be able to. Were all going to pray together. Were all one big family at home that was there. That was sitting around the table. One big fryberg family. Thats the ones that got shot. Reporter three of the victims remain in very Critical Condition this morning. Should have been a fun lunch period. Here, more of what they saw in their own words. I turned around and i saw jaylen stand up. And then i turned back around and all i heard was gunfire. Four shots went off. I thought it was fire crackers and everyone started ducking under the tables. It was loud bangs, and everyone dropped to the floor and ran out. I heard gun shots. And it must have ricochetted off something and hit me. When i fell over, i got up and there was someone laying on the ground. And then three more went off and everyone started screaming, run, its a gun. And someone has a gun, so we ran into a classroom. I saw everyone running and i ran. I dont know how to comprehend it at this point, you know . We all ran into the woods and we went to the back gate. And the fence was closed, and were all trying to help each other hop over the fence. There was so much screaming and crying and confusion. No one knew what was happening. Just really shocking to find out family had been shot. Those were my friends. And the question so many are asking this morning is why. And now the ebola emergency. An overnight scare in new jersey as tighter quarantine rules are now in effect. This morning the Health Care Worker put into isolation at this hospital testing negative for ebola. The worker tied to Doctors Without Borders was quarantined for about 12 hours after returning from western africa. She did develop a fever in isolation, according to officials. Governor Chris Christie announced the health care would be the first to be placed in quarantine friday evening under the strict new policies for Health Care Workers returning from the ebola hot zone in west africa. Despite showing no symptoms of the virus when her plane was isolated at newarks liberty airport. New jersey and new york are going to determine the standards of quarantine since the cdcs guidance is continually changing. Reporter new jersey and new york now overriding the cdc, enforcing a mandatory quarantine for any individual who had direct contact with someone infected. Spencer and his fiancee and two friends each remain under quarantine as new yorks mayor calls for calm. Theres no reason for new yorkers to change their daily routine in any way. Reporter the new policy in new york and new jersey is far stricter than the federal requirements. It allows the states to make quarantine mandatory for 21 days for anyone returning from the affected countries, dan. Thank you. Lets bring in abcs chief medical editor, dr. Richard besser. You have misgivings about the mandatory quarantine. But the fact that this nurse did test negative, but she did spike a fever, doesnt that in some way vindicate the policy . I dont think so. People will come back from travel and develop illnesses. But she didnt have ebola. I think the system was working. You see pictures of dr. Spencer all around town and it makes people uncomfortable. But he was not contagious until after he had that fever. So the policy worked. He contacted, got in isolation before putting anyone at risk. We have good news on the ebola front this morning. New pictures of nina pham, the nurse from dallas. Returning to her home in dallas after she got out of the hospital yesterday in d. C. Before she headed back to dallas, she got a hug from president obama. Its interesting, there you see the hug interesting were seeing so much success in treating ebola patients in the u. S. , most surviving. However, that is not the case in africa. Its not. Those photos were just incredible. But the World Health Organization announced theres now been more than 10,000 cases of ebola in west africa. More than 50 of people who have that infection there have died. We understand why here in the u. S. Were treating the ninth patient. Only one person has died, and that person got late treatment. What can we learn and apply to africa . I am concerned that these quarantine rules will discourage some americans from going over there to help. We need to do all we can here to knock it out over there. Thats what makes america safer. And just to get back to nina pham for a second. With the president giving her that highprofile hug do you think hes trying to send a message here . Hes sending an important message. When someone recovers from ebola. Theyre not contagious. Theyre not only not contagious, but immune. Theres hope that some who recovered around the world can become future caretakers for those people who have the infection. And that might help.
