We have the latest of Oscar Pistorius under savage crossexamination right now. Lets get to the breaking story. Mass stabbing outside of pittsburgh. Paul la ferris is tracking the latest. Pahl paula. That suspect is in custody but not before stabbing 20 people at an pennsylvania high school. Heres the aerial photo showing buses lined up and students evacuating. The attack handed around 7 00 eastern before classes started at Franklin High School located just east of pittsburgh which is home to 1200 students. Eye witness reports saying that lone suspect, a student at franklin high, was running around stabbing people, and there was crying and screaming in the hallways. I was just talking to my friend who said he just saw him running with a knife, and they then he turned the corner and there was some kids like holding their stomach with blood everywhere, the whole science wing was just chaotic and crazy. Reporter frantic parents were told to wait at home. Its important that parents realize that the scene is contained. Your students there that are is safe. She was crying and told me to get down here now, either my wife or i, to get down here and get her right away. I dont think no parent could prepare for anything like this. The words cant describe how i felt at the time when he called. Reporter investigators are looking at the lone motive. Was it targeted or random. Were told they are not just students, ages ranging 16 to 60. Many heroic stories coming out. Abc news learned that one female student saved another students live at the scene by applying pressure to her wound. George . Thank you, paula. The latest on the ping songs. David kerley has the latest. David . Searchers still want to see wreckage but this is big news. The two last pings were seen to the south of the search area. Number two and number four. The other two pings were heard on saturday. But searchers want more detections and heres why. They want to get down to a couple of grid squares before they start the critical underwater search. Less than 24 hours ago, a ping. The fourth, heard by this ship, consistent with an aircraft black box. Im optimistic that we will find the aircraft or what is left of the aircraft, in the not too distant future. Reporter but exactly where the wreckage is remains a mystery. Theres a 16mile separation between two of these pings. The more they get, the more precise they can be before sending this robot into the water. The bluefin21 will map the bottom, looking for wreckage. And with all of this new information, planes will now narrow their search of the surface for debris. Searchers want to see something before they say they found malaysian flight 370. We need to visually identify aircraft wreckage, before we can confirm, with certainty, that this is the final resting place of mh370. Reporter that resting place is very deep. Watch this. Traveling below the surface at 1,700 feet, we would pass the world trade center. Sperm whales dont live below 3,200 feet. The titanic was found at 12,600 feet. And the bluefin21 is right at its limits where the black box pingers may be, at nearly 15,000 feet under the water. All that is the reason they are racing to hear more pings. More information before the batteries die to narrow the area to look for the remains of the 777. Id say were getting more confident we found the haystack. Reporter so, the drama continues to try to narrow this field even more. That last ping detected, number four here, was a weak signal. You killed Reeva Steenkamp. Thats what you did. Reporter within seconds this morning, the lead prosecutor, putting pistorius on the ropes. What was your mistake . My mistake was that i took reevas life. Reporter this morning, pistorius seemed more composed, after disintegrating into wailing sobs tuesday. The judge even walking out. Reporter prosecutor gerrie nel, known as the pit bull here, smelling blood. Attacking. Say, yes. I shot and killed Reeva Steenkamp. I did, my lady. Reporter shooting his girlfriend on valentines day last year. Earlier, describing the horror of finding her there. And then i just sat there and waited for the ambulance to arrive. And i had my fingers in her mouth to help her try breathe. Reporter but she would die in his arms. Reeva had already died whilst i was holding her. Before the ambulance arrived. So, i knew there was nothing that they could do for her. Reporter and just minutes earlier, we heard pistorius announce for the first time. I did not intent to kill riva my lady or anybody else. Reporter despite firing four exploding bullets into a tiny bathroom cubical, at a person he said he thought was an intruder. Coming up, well show you the video and the questions that triggered a shouting match in court. A moment so raw, that it drew an outburst from pistorius. It was such a withering crossexamination that it triggered an angry outburst from pistorius and more emotional breakdowns. The prosecutor forcing him to watch that video of him shooting a shotgun at watermelons, saying the same effect was on reevas head. Saying this is not the case of a griefstricken lover, but a murderer. The prosecution, ruthlessly skewering the blade runner. Showing video of him blasting away at watermelons. Prosecutor gerrie nel, known as the pit bull, ruthlessly going for the jugular. Thats the exact same effect of the bullet that went into her head. Reporter images so graphic, we had to blur it. What i saw reporter gasps in court. Reeva steenkamps mother, unable to look. Finally, the judge putting an end to the torture. Can you just remove this from the screen . Yes. Reporter minutes earlier, nel began his crossexamination blasting away. I made a mistake. You killed Reeva Steenkamp, thats what you did. Say, yes, i shot and killed Reeva Steenkamp. I did, my lady. Reporter but five minutes elapsed before he finally broke the door down to find her bleeding out. Then the harrowing moment of horror. I could see her arm was broken. And i was pulling her into the bathroom. Reporter Oscar Pistorius describing the slippery, bloody scene in the bathroom. On his prosthetics, he called for help. I asked him for help, to help me come and help. I couldnt pick reeva up. I was struggling to pick her up. Reporter trying to resuscitate her. And then i just sat there and i waited for the ambulance to arrive. I felt helpless. I wanted to take her to the hospital. I had my fingers in her mouth to try to help her breathe. I had my hand on her hip. I was trying to stop the bleeding. Reporter but all was lost. George, we expect this onslaught to continue, possibly, for days. So far, the prosecution has been probing for pistorius emotional weak points. Next, to dissect his story. Why did he shoot four bullets into that door if he didnt intend to kill . Why wait five minutes before battering down the door . And why didnt he make sure his girlfriend was safe before pulling that trigger . George . A lot of tough questions to come. Lets go to our league team now. Abcs dan abrams and nancy grace. Host of nancy grace on hln. Nancy, youre a former prosecutor. Is it possible for a prosecutor to be too tough . Absolutely. There are several techniques you can take. You can get the same effect the same result, anyway, by a more delicate crossexamination. On the other hand, sometimes you have to go for the jugular. And i think this is the prosecutions thinking. This judge has been extremely solicitous to pistorius throughout the trial. Im not saying thats wrong or right. But i can guarantee you in an American Court of law, you gun down your girlfriend and you cry on the stand, were not adjourning for the day for you to cry. Okay . Thats what theyre doing there. Again, not judging. And i think at this point, the prosecution has taken the gloves off. Another thing hes doing, other than showing her in death on the screen, is hes gone back to pistorius bail statement. And i think hes going to catch pistorius in inconsistencies about the night of the shooting. Thats the key to the case. Right . I mean, the inconsistencies are much more important than the tone. But you asked the question about the prosecutors tone. That also can be asked of pistorius as well. Can you cry too much on the witness stand . And i think both those questions are valid questions. Youre right. Number one, the prosecutor has to be careful not to want the judge or the assessors to feel sorry for pistorius. On the other hand, pistorius has to be careful here, that if hes crying all of the time, and constantly, not to say hes not upset or whatever the case may be, but that can also work against him, because this is about his credibility. This is about, do they believe him . And if hes crying at every point, that can detract. One of the hardest things to believe is that he didnt know that Reeva Steenkamp wasnt in the bed. Oh, yeah. On that line, and back to what i was saying about the bail statement, he had to give a statement about what happened when he made bail. And in that, you might think this is insignificant. But think it through. He said in the bail statement, he did not go out on the balcony to adjust the fan. He said he stayed in the room, and i guess pulled it in off the balcony. Which means, he didnt have a chance to not notice reeva getting up and going into the bathroom. He could have argued when he went on the balcony, she went in the bathroom without him knowing. Now, from his bail statement, his story changed a little bit. He never left the room, according to his first statement. And the prosecutions just started with that bail statement right now, in that courtroom. Hes just on the first lines. And hes got a whole statement. I guarantee you, he will not be bringing in that statement unless he has the inconsistency with what pistorius is saying on the stand. And this does relate to the most important question and the biggest inconsistency, which is, the question you asked. How could he have not known that she wasnt in the bed . And theres a whole series of issues surrounding that, related to where his gun was found, where he was. Hes screaming her name and shes not responding . And hes not changing his actions based on that. Thats the case. I mean, to me, this case comes down to dan, were you feeling a little sorry for him . Were you feeling a little sorry for him when he kept crying . Vomiting. But then, when they put that video of him laughing, shooting the watermelon saying, thats a lot softer than somebodys brain. I didnt feel quite as sorry for him then. Whether this was a murder or an accident, im sure hes sorry. Right . I believe that he is upset. I believe hes of course. That some of the tears are real. That doesnt change hes getting tried for murder. Thats why hes sorry. It may be. But it doesnt change the question, the fundamental question here, which is was it murder . Or was it an accident . Nancy, i was struck by that moment where he had to say he was he was forced to say, ill try not to lie. Oh, yeah. Right. You know what . Talk about a freudian slip. Ill try not to lie. Were joined by special correspondent, Samantha Harris, in los angeles. Reporter this morning, the tv star is revealing, at just 40 years old, she has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I think the why me wasnt so much why me . But why my girls . You know . Reporter telling entertainment tonight, it was a diagnosis she had to fight for. After several doctors informed her that the lump they found in her breast was benign. Someone who gets a diagnosis with anything that is going to change the life that you lead right now, its scary. Reporter but harris pushed past the fear of the unknown because she just didnt feel like herself. She decided to take matters into her own hands. Opting to see a specialist who found the lump was actually cancerous. And having lost my dad when he was just 50, i was lucky because i was 22. And i had had him through my whole adolescence. Im 40. Im a lot closer to his age at death than he was when he had me. And so, those are the thoughts. Its so important that you listen to your body. If something doesnt feel right, you get a check. And if you still have concerns, you get a second opinion. Reporter harris immediate concern, her two daughters. My daughters are 3 and 6. All theyre concerned about is to have mommy active, being able to hold them, hug them, kiss them. Be there, be present for everything. I will be here to plan my daughters weddings. In san jose, police are investigating a deadly hitandrun accident. It happened shortly before 2 00 this morning on east capital expressway at seven trees boulevard. A man in his 30s or 40s was hit and killed there just before 2 00 a. M. Investigators dont have a description of the driver or the suspect vehicle. Your morning commute, boy, problems this morning.
