high-tech suits while a trio of fun-loving americans makes history, the first ever ski slopestyle event. good morning, everybody. remember a couple of weeks ago when the groundhog said we had six more weeks of winter, he was right but i believe he was insufficiently specific. he failed to mention the rest of this winter would be relentless a enacceptably snowy. >> arms at a standstill with so many cups trying to get away for a valentine's weekend. there are some people making the best of it. one romantic couple made this snow heart for valentine's day. and look at this shot. a snow bank against new york's famous skyline and, of course, there's central park glistening as well. looks so beautiful in the pictures when you're out there. >> hopping over slush to get there less amusing. this guy is snowboarding down the street. that looks like a don't try that at home. we used to call this skitcing back in the day attached to a car. i never did it. the fin and beauty i will grudgingly admit many want it to end. there it is. 32 days until 123ri7k. >> over a .to go and there's a fresh blizzard on the way. it comes as tens of millions of americans are digging out of this week's nor'easter and abc's linzie janis is on the story from central park in a balmy new york city. it's 40 degrees out. >> reporter: 40 degrees, bianna, and no snow yet but told it is on the way of the that's why the race is on to clear the existing ice and snow. between battering winter storms, this morning, nearly a third of the nation is cleaning up. >> i hope we don't get no more. >> reporter: and clearing out. heavy snow causing roofs to cave in. leaving some homeless. the average home can withstand about two feet of snow before the roof becomes susceptible to collapse. parts of the northeast have gotten much more than that this week. as far south as north carolina, police calling in tow trucks to save stranded motorists. this boy got lost and survived the night in freezing temperatures by cuddling his dog cocoa for 14 hours. >> i didn't keep warm. the dog kept warm. >> look at this truck, the large hole in front of the driver's wind shield was because of falling ice. and this may look like an explorer atop a mountain but it's working clearing gigantic chunks of ice and snow from a vermont airport runway. and this man taking advantage of the sloppy conditions in new york city snowboarding down the street. much of the country was hit hard. the roads outside philadelphia so slick, causing this five-m e five-mile-long pileup. more than a hundred cars, dozened injured. >> around the corner and the sun is blinding and i missed the car in front of me by that much. >> reporter: and those drivers in pennsylvania told us they were foaled by the sun and also by what looked like a clear road. in fact, it was a sheet of ice. a good reminder that stay cautious no matter how tired and frustrated we are all growing with this winter. dan, 32 days, 32 days, i love that countdown clock. >> yes, we'll put it up for the rest of the show. blizzard warnings up right now for parts of the northeast. for more on this new storm over to bill kelly, the bearer of bad news, chief meteorologist for wsyx in columbus, glad to have you here. >> isn't hope a wonderful thing. not today. we have winter weather advisories posted all the way from north carolina up into new england and you mentioned that blizzard warning. here it is, it's for eastern sections of massachusetts there where it's going to be blowing, the snow is going to be blinding. here is the current radar. you folks in washington, d.c., you're probably going to stay rain. philly, a little snow expecting a little snow in the new york area over the next couple of hours. where it is going to affect most of you is up here into new england. i mean this storm is going to pack a punch. let me run the timing by. here's the morning time frame. we get into the afternoon it pulls off into the ocean and look at this. look at all the snow that is going to be around in these areas, we're talking in some spots 6 to 12 inches of snow. bianna. >> a tough weekend for folks in the northeast. by, thanks to you. we'll turn to the pleasure cruise turned deadly for passengers enjoying a trip at sea. their six-week adventure to the amazon and caribbean ending in horror when a wall of water came smashing into the ship and abc's jeffrey kofman has more. >> reporter: bianna, so much of north america is in deep snow and deep freeze here in the uk being relentless by high wind and rain. this he's being devastated by floods and huge waves are causing havoc at sea. overnight tragedy hitting the high seas when a massive wave crashed into a british cruise ship killing a man on board. the 288-foot "marco polo" was on its way home from a 42-day trip when it was struck by a wave while passing through the english channel. rushing water shattered a window on board injuring several of the ship's 735 passengers. two had to be air-lifted off the ship to nearby hospitals where one, an 85-year-old man was later pronounced day. >> a rogue wave has a very amount of power in it. not usual for a rogue wave to do something like that. it'll shatter the glass and it will hurt people inside. the wave is part of the same blast of vicious weather that's left tens of thousands here in the uk without power. >> we are doing everything we can. we are fighting on every front. >> reporter: last night the cruise ship's operator tweeted "our thoughts are with the family of the passenger who has sadly died." even with their massive size, cruise ships can still feel the wrath of the ocean. in 2010 this ship was disabled off the coast of south america by 30-foot waves. >> i just thought she -- a great ship. i hope she holds together. >> it happens. rogue waves do hit and when you're in rough seas you have to take precautions. >> reporter: this is not just a little bit of that british bad weather, more than 20 communities have severe flood alerts, more than 1240,000 homes are without power and more rain is on the way. dan? >> a nightmare in the uk own high seas. thank you. let's switch gears and get to the olympics. week two of the winter games officially under way and there's the in he hadal count on our sochi scoreboard. we are tied with norway for first place with the netherlands, russia and germany right behind. abc's amy robach is tracking all the action at our "gma" olympic headquarters in sochi. amy, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, dan. and, yes, the latest medal for the united states, a silver in the women's skeleton plus the controversy over the u.s. speed skaters' request to change their statutes halfway through the competition and then, of course, last night's thrills and spills of men's figure skating. during the men's freeskate figure skating final a few ups. >> triple toe. >> reporter: and some major downs, a couple of stumbles may have cost patrick chan the top spot and a shot at breaking the so-called canadian curse and yuzuru hanyu may have lost his balance here. >> oh, no. but. >> reporter: but he was able to hang on to his gold medal in the end, next up wardrobe malfunctions? with six races under their belts, the u.s. speed skaters have made it to the halfway point but not one medal in hand. now some are hoping new suits will pick up the slack. >> to walk away and see their seventh place, their eighth place so keep trying to dissect and figure out what's the common denominator among them and everyone keeps coming back to the suit. >> reporter: the ioc considering a request to change their uniforms after skaters question the efficiency of high-tech racing suits developed buy underarmour. it went through hundreds of hours of testing but the new sues they're changing to are actually old. the athletes wore them at the world cup speed skating event late last year, the main difference, the lack of this feature, a small vent on the back that some think is causing drag. up the mountain in the women's skeleton, u.s. competitor noelle pikes make off like a rocket gliding through every twist and turn all the way to a silver medal. losing out to great lakes britain's lizzie arnold earning the uk first taste of sochi gold immediately after finishing the mother of two climbing up through the stands straight into the arms of her family shouting over and over, we did it. >> i just wanted to go out knowing this is my last and final run of not just the olympics but of my career. >> reporter: one of the biggest events of the day, team usa and russia in a key hockey showdown. it's a preliminary game, but it brings to mind the miracle on ice at the 1980 games in lake placid where a team of amateur and college players defeated the heavily favorited soviet union. team usa's co-captain ryan suter's father was on the team and asked him about the usa's teams of winning the gold. >> i hope we do win the gold as my dad says he tells us win the goal so we don't have to talk about the '80 team anymore. you know, he kind of wants to get the attention off him and just move on, move on with his life. >> reporter: yes, he remembers bringing his gold medal to show and tell as a kid and would like to come home with one of his own and we'll be watching. go team usa and the international olympic committee a stop to russia's plan to award medal winning athletes today with the piece of a meteorite that exploded over russia you may remember exactly one year ago. the ioc saying russia can only give medalists those gifts from space after the games are over. the host country had hoped to commemorate the anniversary with these special meteorite medals but looks like it won't happen today. >> yet another strange headline out of sochi. amy, thank you. we do have one of the speed skating suits on the set with us this morning. here is the allegedly offending vent on the back. we wish the u.s. speed skaters good luck with the new old suits today and by the way a little tease coming up in the second half hour of "gma" this morning we'll be doing "pop news" and sara haines will be wearing this suit. coming up -- >> i kind of believe you. i think she would wear that suit. anyway let's get more now on the wild men's figure skating event filled with falls. injoed by our "gma" special contributor sasha cohen. good morning to you. what a night that was. i mean none of the final six skaters had a clean program. have you ever seen anything like that. >> there are moments where the ice seems jinxed and no one can put out the perfect skate and it's difficult. you know, during my olympics, it was like that. everyone was all over the ice wiping out on the ice but still, yuzuru hanyu is the men's first olympic champion for japan so that's iconic, historic and it was very excitexciting. >> it may be a technical issue and not just nerves that caused so many to spill. >> i'm not saying it's necessarily a technical issue just sometimes, you know, it just -- everyone seems to have a little bit of an issue and there's times where everyone just pumps out a perfect performance. and there's just like something you can't ascribe that to. it's just in the air. >> of course, a lot of were hoping jason brown, the american would have a perfect performance. he did not. he came in ninth place. so much was riding on him and he's such a storied figure, as well. didn't turn out to be his night. >> he has such a future in front of him. he's so young and magnetic and, you know, still put out a good performance, top ten. and he's a little tight, a little cautious. he skated at the end of the event which is so difficult to wait for an hour, here are the scores, to be nervous after the warm-up. i still think he put out a performance he can be proud of and use that as fire training into the next one. >> see him four years from now. quickly, everyone is waiting for the women's event too. who should we watch for? >> it's going to be really exciting to see julia face off with yu-na and we haven't seen yu-na yet or paulina edmond, the u.s. girl. those are the few i would be watching and gracie gold as a chance for a medal and mao assata in the triple aaxel. >> good morning to you, bianna and we begin with an earthquake that rattled people in three states in the mouth east. magnitude 4.1 quake center it the seven miles south of edgefield, south carolina. it was felt as far away as atlanta, georgia and as far north as hickory, north carolina. it blew up social media. but no damage -- blues up on social media instead of blew up social media. no injuries reported interest that quake. president obama opened up this. he met with some california farmers and promised $183 million in federal aid to deal -- try to deal with the epic drought. he proposed a $1 billion fund package to deal with climate change and met with jordan's king abdullah and said he would ask congress for $1 billion in loan guarantees to help jordan deal with syrian refugees. and actress ellen page best known for her performances in "juno" saying she is gay. it was an emotional moment. >> i suffered for years because i was scared to be out. my spirit suffered. my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered. >> page received a standing ovation after her speech which was held at the inaugural time to thrive conference in las vegas for the lgbt community. this story from california. a camel escaped from an animal sanctuary and goes on a rampage. the camel somehow got away from the facility and when a local resident, a neighbor tried to corral it, it started biting him knocking him to the ground and stomped on him repeatedly. the camel was eventually taken away by animal control officers. the owner of the sanctuary is facing charges for not having a permit for that camel. finally, forget about the roses and chocolates for valentine's day, how about a pillow fight? with hundreds, possibly thousands of people in san francisco, california, feathers went flying for the annual friendly valentine's day pillow fight. local authorities say dozens of trucks were called in afterward to clean up the featheri iny me and saar ray said she didn't get the flowers i sent. a sent a dozen pillows. >> i've seen people take it too seriously. i have a had a couple. >> public health warning. on the dangers of pillow fighting this morning. important public health announcement from "gma." now to what's being called air classic case of bullying in the nfl. an independent investigation has found that offensive lineman richie incognito engaged in a pattern directed at miami dolphin jonathan martin but the bullying went far beyond that and abc's ryan smith has the story. >> i did not intend to discuss this publicly. >> reporter: offensive lineman jonathan martin backed up today by a report from the nfl's independent investigator that he was harassed by teammate richie incognito. >> the perfect call on jonathan martin. >> reporter: the 144-page report finding incognito and teammates mike pouncey and john jerry, quote, engaged in a pattern of harassment directed at not only martin but also another young dolphins lineman and a member of the training staff and on two occasions martin contemplated suicide because of his mistreatment by teammates. >> well, the report has been highly anticipated for quite a while. this gives us a little more context into what was going on. >> reporter: among the findings, vulgar sexual comments about martin's mother and sister, a litany of insulted routinely hurled at martin including the "n" word and notebook kept by incognito where he wrote about breaking jmart. the friendship between the two described in the report as, quote, odd but seemingly close. >> richie would say they were best friends and hung out with each other off the field. if you ask jonathan, jonathan would say, i just sort of had to deal with this to get to a place where the harassment would stop. >> reporter: overnight incognito's lawyer speaking out against the report claiming it is, quote, replete with errors and incognito tweeting friday "you could not define me in 144 years, let alone 144 pages." miami dolphins owner stephen ross issued a statement saying in part "i have made it clear to everyone within our organization that this situation must never happen again." and no comment from martin so far. an incognito quit twitter after those last tweets. why would martin participate in the off-color joking if it affected him so deeply? he had to go along to get along according to their psychologist. this is consistent with the behavior of an abuse victim. >> thank you. tonight your chance to win enough money to start your very own country. >> yeah, there hasn't been a powerball winner since christmas. well now presidents' day weekend could be lucky for someone out there. sara is here dreaming big about what you do with that money. >> i'm totally dealing big. who hasn't played the game where you ask, what would you do if you won the lottery? it's a game i venture into more than than i'd like to admit but this time i dove into it head first. you got to be in it to win it so here it goes. can i get one powerball ticket? >> yeah. >> reporter: now, what would i do if i won $330 million? i could fill up 250 olympic-size swimming pools with these jelly beans which you should share with your friends, ready, guys? the equivalent of 1,250 dump trucks worth of fudge. that's a lot of fudge. if it's not too late to catch the olympics, i could even travel to sochi and back more than 300,000 times. i could take a cycle class with 273 of my closest friends every day for a century. i would have the hottest bod ever. >> i could lay here in complete bliss for the rest of my life getting massages by four people at the same time. that feels really good. and, of course, i would want to give back. i could pay for 6,000 students to go to college for four years. think of all those diplomas. having it all costs a pretty penny and to do everything on my list would cost almost $2 billion. leaving us with one very important question. what would you buy if you won the powerball? that is the question. what would you buy if you won the powerball? >> i'd go with your jelly bean identify. >> i'd do the soul cycle. i'm addicted. >> several houses, europe, australia, you know. buy you a house, of course. >> then i would return your phone calls. >> i'd get some very expensive pillows. >> i see you running a small nation. i think that would be the way to do it. >> i see dan saving animals. >> yes. >> i say all of us sleeping in because now we can. in the meantime, we turn to the weather and back over to
