The monster storm bearing down on the west coast packing more heavy rain on already swamped areas. The radar there giving you an idea of just how enormous this system is. Forecasters say it is packing another round of intense rainfall thats expected to last throughout the weekend. Emergency officials are concerned. Ground stability is an issue saying they expect more landslides like this one that shut down two lanes of interstate 5 in Washington State last night. Northern california officials now say they believe that the damaged oroville dam is stable enough to withstand the approaching storms after they drained the lake behind the dam to a much safer level, but those draining efforts have a downside. Some of the water released from the dam ended up flooding an Historic Cemetery in the city of marysville. Now, accuweathers Justin Povick very busy this morning. Extremely high impacts from the bay area but especially towards the l. A. Basin. And as we go in a little closer here, we are expecting again several inches of rain, higher amounts into the foothills. This could cause mudslides, rockslides and flash flooding. Yeah, i grew up not too far away from marysville and that flooding we saw in northern california. But now we want to get to that extraordinary event at the white house. Theres lots of new reaction overnight to President Trumps lengthy first solo News Conference since taking office. Okay, so by the numbers, it lasted 77 minutes. The president taking questions from 17 different reporters, and heres the cover of the New York Post this morning, donald trump as ringmaster, the headline, the wildest show on earth. Reporter quickly turned to his accomplishments at the white house so far despite the high drama weve seen in less than a month, the firing of his National Security adviser, his travel ban struck down by the courts, his confrontations with u. S. Allies. This administration is running like a finetuned machine. Reporter the president bouncing from leaks of classified material blaming the intelligence community. Those are criminal leaks. Reporter to russia. I have nothing to do with russia. Reporter and again boasting about his election win in november. We got 306. I guess it was the Biggest Electoral College win since ronald reagan. Among them, russian jets buzzing a Navy Destroyer in the black sea last week. Theres also been russias secret deployment of a new cruise missile, an apparent violation of an arms treaty and a russian spy ship. Thats being tracked off the east coast. The president saying these are serious concerns. The greatest thing i could do is shoot that ship thats 30 miles offshore right out of the water. Everyone in this country is going to say, oh, its so great. Thats not great. Thats not great. Well, that said mr. Trump would not reveal any possible retaliation for those provocations. And the administration continues its search for a National Security adviser this morning. Retired admiral Robert Harwood turned down an offer to replace michael flynn. Harwood, who is also an abc news contributor, cited family commitments and said he did not turn down the job because any apparent dysfunction at the white house would lead him to. Well, breaking overnight a collision between two airliners at the airport in phoenix. A departing denver bound Frontier Airlines plane clipped the wing of an arriving Southwest Airlines plane, and that was coming from oklahoma city. Scary for the passengers, right . On the southwest jet you can actually see the wing tip completely ripped off. Airport crews say the collision caused a fuel leak. No injuries have been reported. The ntsb and faa are investigating. Protesters hit the streets of portland, oregon, overnight to remember quanice hayes, a 17yearold who was shot and killed by a police officer. The march started peacefully but then escalated when protesters threw signs and street cones and damaged at least one vehicle. Hayes was shot and killed by police after an Armed Robbery last week. They say he appeared to be carrying a gun, but it turned out to be a replica. Thousands of people skipped work and hit the streets as part of a nationwide protest called a day without immigrants. The boycott was aimed at President Trumps crackdown on immigration. The shortage of workers forced some restaurants, stores and other businesses to shut down, which organizers say demonstrates the importance of immigrant workers to the u. S. Economy. You can see ive got it zoomed down between the bay bridge and the san mateo bridge and out to san ramon and thats where we have the moderate rain rushing north right now. Ponding on the roadways already as that storm is surging in from the south. You can see the wetness on the embarcadero here in San Francisco. Heavy spots at 7 00, windy with moderate spots at noon and calmer with scattered showers at 4 00 and then random showers at 7 00. Now the winds are going to be an issue. Ill show you the high wind watch. Current wind speeds right now and an hourbyhour look at the rain coming up next. No wind advisories for our bridges yet by chp but that could change. I drove across the bay bridge myself this morning. We are hearing about dense fog. I have live doppler 7 on top of our traffic maps so we cant really see too much fog but it is reported along highway 4 as you come through the concord and hercules area so along with the really wet pavement, youre going to be dealing with reduced visibility. Heres a live look at golden gate bridge. It is soggy this morning and we do have a handful of collisions already. Ill talk about those coming up next. As we watch those roadways and the skies all over the bay area, people also keeping a very close eye on some very full reservoirs. Including in morgan hill as the next round of rain moves in. You know, during the drought years, we used to say, well, we can really use the rain but this is difficult to say through all that training but we really dont need the rain and this is why. We cant hold the water that we have. This is the anderson reservoir. Its 99 full and all of this water is heading into the coyote creek. All these releases. We have more rain in the forecast, which is going to make this worse. Once it reaches full capacity, the water also begins spilling over the top of the dam into a concrete spillway designed to relieve pressure. All that water will do this. Lets show you this video, create a swollen coyote creek. There are a number of lowlying communities that are close to the floodplain so there is a risk that they could flood. The reservoir is only supposed to be at 68 capacit because of seismic concerns so they have no choice if you release all this water.
