Transcripts For KGO America This Morning 20151113

On this friday morning we begin with that breaking news, the targeting of one of the most despised figures on the planet. Were talking about isis terrorist jihadi john believed to have been killed in a u. S. Drone strike. His real name, Mohamed Emwazi. Hes a masked executioner seen on video beheading hostages. The cia has been tracking emwazi for more than a year. He was killed in a drone strike in the syrian city of raqqah, an isis stronghold and though the pentagon has not confirmed his death, sources tell abc news it was a 100 direct hit. Abcs brian ross has been tracking the story overnight. Reporter the world first came to know jihadi john a little over a year ago when he appeared in this video wearing a black mask holding a knife and threatening the life of american journalist james foley. His voice was disguised, but he could not hide his british accent. You have plotted against us and gone far out of your way to find reasons to interfere in our affairs. Reporter one after another he presided over the murders of foley, american steven sotloff, peter kassig, plus two britons and two japanese hostages. Our knife will continue to strike the necks of your people. Reporter earlier this year his true identity was revealed to be Mohamed Emwazi seen here wearing an american baseball cap, the son of kuwaiti parents who emigrated to the united kingdom. Even as a schoolboy in london, emwazi was spotted by teachers as having a violent streak. One teacher told the bbc that at the age of 11, he was put in anger management therapy. Wed find that hed get very angry and worked up, and it would take him a long time to calm himself down. Reporter flaunting his role as executioner once he joined isis with his piercing eyes and gravelly voice, emwazi became one of the worlds most wanted men. Brian ross, abc news, new york. And the vehicle that emwazi was in burst into flames and one official said essentially evaporated. And brian mentioned one of the hostages believed to have been killed by jihadi john, american james foley. Foleys family has been highly critical of the administrations efforts to rescue hostages. Abc news investigative producer from our brian ross unit james meeks spoke to foleys parents overnight. She said it was very small solace to learn that jihad john had been killed in an air strike and she said, you know, the government just doesnt get it. You know, it essentially doesnt bring their son back. That was their point and they are i dont think theyre going to miss jihad john but i think they would have preferred to have gotten jim back alive. U. S. Officials have been tracking him for several months now after identifying him as a british citizen in february. Abcs Stephanie Ramos is live in washington. Stephanie, will the u. S. Ever have 100 confirmation that hes dead and how will they try to confirm it . Reporter well, reena, u. S. Officials say this morning they presume jihadi john was killed by that u. S. Drone strike based on what they observed in the hit and say his car was struck and it virtually burst into flames. They may never have 100 confirmation, but they can come close by listening to the chatter of isis operatives and social media. Okay, so clearly he is an hvt or a high value target but could this be a turning point in the fight against isis . Reporter well, it will certainly give isis leaders pause about how effective the u. S. Was in tracking this top target. Now, heres a big question. Could the u. S. Be after other top targets . Well, richard clarke, a former counterterrorism adviser to the white house and current abc news consultant, says this might be a sign the tide is turning. Well, also breaking right now, were just learning another blow to isis. If youre a child molester, a sick puppy, youre a child molester, theres no cure for that. Theres only one cure. We dont want to talk about that cure. Reporter trump also mocking carsons account of trying to stab a friend. And he plunged it into the belt, and amazingly the belt stayed totally flat. How stupid are the people of iowa . How stupid are the people of the country to believe this crap . Reporter and protests at the university of missouri now drive the attention of the president ial candidates. Trump calling the schools president chancellor weak for stepping down. I think its disgusting. I think the two people that resigned are weak, ineffective people. I think that when they resigned they set something in motion thats going to be a disaster for the next long period of time. Reporter the protests over alleged racial incidents escalated this week when the College Football team joined and threatened not to play this weekend. Students are demanding more black faculty and staff and more money for campuswide diversity programs. Did you look at their demands . Their demands are crazy. Reporter ben carson, a yale graduate, called the protests there infantile. Well, were being a little bit too tolerant, i guess you might say, accepting infantile behavior. And i dont care which side it comes from. As the candidates voice their opinion president obama joined the chorus of criticism over trumps promise to deport millions of undocumented immigrants. In an exclusive interview with abcs george stephanopoulos, the president blasted the idea of a deportation force. Nobody thinks that that is realistic, but more importantly, thats not who we are as americans.
