. >> good morning, everyone, it's sunday, april 17th. i'm chris nguyen in for carolyn tyler. here's lisa argen tracking the latest forecast. >> good morning. it's clear outside and very light wind has allowed for temperatures to wise rapidly throughout the morning hours. right now a big ridge of high pressure centered over machine of california, allowing for the warmup and a wind shift today that will aid in that warmup. from the news camera you see the sunshine. pretty nice out there now with 50s and each throw 60s from mountain view to san jose. half moon bay 59 degrees. 56 in oakland. today we aren't going to have the sea breeze so temperatures in and around the beaches in the city would be pushing upper 70s to near 80. 58 livermore, 53 concord, 59 novato and napa. you have come up with five or six degrees in the past hour so we will look at low 80s to the in walnut creek. very mild throughout the evening hours. but you are not alone. more 80s today than 70s. we will talk about and the interesting seven day outlook coming up. chris. >> thank you, lisa. breaking overnight in sonoma county. one man is dead after the car he was riding in crashed into a light pole early in morning. the chp said the passenger of the white pickup truck was pinned inside and died at the scene. the driver was rushed to the hospital with minor injuries. officers say alcohol and speed are being investigated in the crash. >> developing news out of contra costa county in concord. an explosion inside a garage on clayton way last night is being investigated as a result of a possible of hash oil extraction. hash oil is made from marijuana. according to our media partner the east bay times, residents in the area said they heard an explosion and saw big flames coming from the house. concord fire and police are investigating the cause. the search for two teenagers last seen in the turbulent pacific off ocean beach will not resume today. firefighters in boats, coast guard and helicopters spent hours scouring the water yesterday. the two teens are presumed to have drowned. abc news reporter sergio quintana has more. >> they searched for more than four hours, but at dark the search was suspended. >> if they were big, strong guys with wet suits, you know, we would -- maybe there's some hope there, but this is a difficult case. >> the young men are from vallejo. when their families arrived at the command center, they were told the chances for survival were not good. a total of five young men were swept into the water. three managed to get out alive. >> we were very distressed and in shock. it was very hard to see them in that state. >> according to the fire department, the five young men were in the water up to their knees and had interlocked their arms to stay together, but the currents were still too strong. the three who survived got out several yards from where they first went in. one woman watched as the young men were checked out by paramedics. she said neighbors know to be careful at this beach. >> when the waves are like this, it looks harmless but as the a tide comes in wave after wave, it has a bad undertow. stretched over six miles and included a coast guard helicopter and a few boats. firefighters spent hours perched atop their ladders turned into observation hours. it was the 12th search this year and in the end the two young men were not found and the search will not resume. in san francisco. abc7 news. developing news out of ecuador this morning. officials have sent 10,000 armed forces to the zone hit by the strongest earthquake the latin american country has seen in decades. you can see the violent shaking inside a department store all caught on a cell phone camera. the shaking continued for nearly one minute. the quake killed at least 233 people spread throughout the three cities on the country's central coast. here's a look at some of the early damage, including cars flattened like pancakes. this one here you see the driver was killed. there's now a tsunami threat along the coast of ecuador. this morning officials say u.s. military aircraft are helping in an effort to speed relief supplies to japanese communities devastated by two earthquakes that killed at least 41 people. 32 died in a magnitude 7.2 quake yesterday and nine others died with a 6.5 quake on thursday. 400,000 homes are without drinking water and another 200,000 don't have electricity. nearly 100 people are still thought to be trapped and landslides caused by rains are slowing down rescue efforts. japan's most active volcano also quakes. >> a man was killed in a drive-by shooting off story road last night. according to our media partner, the victim was a 19-year-old man. several suspects walked up to the young man, shot him and then drove off. this was the city's 12th homicide of the year. last year at this time san jose recorded 8 homicides. time is 9:06. look at this video. you can see san jose police officers moving in on a suspect here who refused to surrender. that man thought with the police dog just moments earlier. last night's standoff forced officers to evacuate nearby businesses along north capital avenue. officers spent about three hours urging the man to surrender. it finally ended when they used a taser. >> san francisco police identified the officer who shot a homeless man earlier this week. michael malone any shot and killed the 45-year-old man. it happened april 17th at 19th and shotwell in the mission district. police say he charged at officers with a large knife, even after being hit with bean bags. they fired seven rounds, six of which hit him. both are them are on paid administrative lead >> some san jose residents voiced their concerns after a fire hydrant failed to work after a townhome caught on fire. they battled the flames along sugar creek drive before 5:00 last night. this is capital expressway and silver creek road. they said the two nearest hydrants failed to work. >> they had to hook up six inch lines on silver creek to bring water here to put this fire out. and we have a fire hydrant less than 50 feet away. >> nobody was hurt. the red cross is helping three adults and a child driven from their home by the fire. investigators are trying to determine what sparked the flames. a well-known north bay winemaker died yesterday in yount mill. denis malbac back was driving on washington street in napa when his car went off a road and hit a fence and trees. it happened around 1:10 saturday morning near highway 29. malbac was pronounced dead at the scene. another winemaker, josh phelps, was the passenger in the car. he was not hurt, but taken to the hospital as a precaution. the chp said it's unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. a u.c. berkeley student wants an apology from one of america's best known airlines for kicking him off a flight for something he said on the phone. abc7 news reporter lisa has the details. >> this is video of a man asking u.s. secretary general a question at a special world affairs council dinner in los angeles on april 5th. the next day the southwest airlines frequent flyer boarded a flight from lax to oakland. he was on the phone with his uncle in baghdad and said the common arabic expression meaning "god willing." that's when he noticed another passenger eyeing him and a minute later he was yanked off the plane. she told security he was using jihadist language. >> they degraded me as a human, and they believed or thought he was a terrorist. >> the normally gregarious student was scared, questioned, searched and intimidated for 40 minutes by the fbi and airport security. >> he said you need to be honest with us. you have said something, they listened and pulled me out for no reason and there should be a procedure. >> according to a southwest airline statement, the company wouldn't remove a passenger without a collaborative decision rooted in an established procedure. he said he wants the airline to apologize and he also vows never to fly southwest again. abc7 news. starting off the run for a second straight championship with a win. the warriors beat the rockets yesterday 104-78. that was at francisco. that's what happened in nob hill yesterday morning. abc7 news reporter alyssa harrington spoke with the victim and has more on the bizarre chase. >> it was very scary. >> tiffany norman was asleep when around 8:40. >> i will heard this banging on the door, and all of a sudden someone was in my apartment. >> a stranger armed with a gun broke down her front door and entered her apartment. police were close behind. they chased him through the roofs and across the tops of several buildings. they say he tried to fell to a tree to escape but fell three stories landing on a park car. >> people said they woke up to the sound of a large thud. when they came outside this is what they found. >> frantic moments of the bizarre chase were broadcast on police radio. >> he has a gun! >> i just heard screaming, i heard someone like running down the street screaming. >> the suspect's crime spree started this morning. he's accused of breaking into homes on leavenworth streets and pacific avenue and gaining access through the roofs. >> he cut through some plastic, construction plastic, and went into one of the apartments and then broke through and came out and while the police was taking a report for that they saw him running down this way and he had a gun. >> the suspect allegedly held one victim up at gunpoint. police say he also pointed the gun at them. a man was hurt and is overhead. the storm track a to the north, now we are getting the pressure on the atmosphere. the winds very, very light. trending offshore. and them a bit of a sea breeze late today. here's santa cruz slightly cooler tomorrow with an average sea breeze but we won't see the surge of southerly winds or the low fog and clouds. we will get cooler by tuesday but the trough of low pressure and the stronger trough of low pressure on friday bringing widespread rains all the way down to the central coast. it looks pretty likely at this point. details where we are looking at the long period swells creating dangerous sneaker waves from sonoma all the way down to monterey. 54 degrees water temperatures and air temperature 70s from point raise to monterey. it will be a crowded place. but look at the lack of wind today. as we put it into the afternoon, notice with 3 to 5 miles, oakland and san francisco. not only that, with we are turning offshore. just a little bit of a breeze today not making for much difference as all. as a result temperatures won't take long to warm into the 80s in our inland east bay. by the average we will see some upper 80s. antioch, fairfield. look at richmond today at 80, 84. santa rosa, there's your 73 in half moon bay. yesterday a good breeze 48. today with more heat maybe that, too, will bring in another 80. and still very warm by 4:00. this is what we are looking forward to into wednesday morning. maybe a few drops here with cooler temperatures and thursday we have clouds around. friday morning here comes the rain and still. commute with the widespread rain showers. some forecast models indicating maybe a half-inch or so. so some bonus late april rain perhaps. mid-and upper 80s today, 70s at the coast tomorrow. here comes the cool down on tuesday. wednesday more drops and thursday more cloudy and typically of 60s and 70s with the storm impact scale still on the horizon with a 1 on friday. looking at some rain. >> i was shaking my head sea breeze. it's just not right in san francisco but today a very, very warm day on tap. in fact numbers climbing through the 70s today. the beaches will be crowded and it will be warm, as he will. 61 in the city. oakland 59. 64 san jose. and half moon day. morgan hill at 60 degrees. we are looking at 50s in the north bay, santa rosa, napa and the delta as well. finally from the east bay hills camera, looks nice out there now, feels good, and quick warming today. we will keep numbers in the inland valleys, mid-and upper 80s. low 80s around the bay for the a's game and we are talking upper continue in japan after two earthquakes devastated the same region in less than 48 hours. the death toll stands at 41 with about 1500 injured. there have been 450 aftershocks and there are still people missing in the debris. we have the latest from japan. >> this morning the army of rescuers in blue scouring rivers of mud for the missing. a last ditch effort of recovery after a landslide triggered by the spasm of earthquakes swallowed bridges, and homes. mother nature rising up against southern japan. biggest quakes, both striking in the dead 6 night. thursday and saturday so violent they said the surveillance cameras spinning. japan's most active volcano, roaring to life, and mudslides hampering rescues. the town hardest hit, house after house crumpled. a nine-month-old baby girl was trapped for hours. plucked out of the wreckage and the darkness and gingerly cradled from rescuer to rescuer. rescuers are back at the house where they plunked the nine-month-old from the rubble. they found there is some smoke coming out from inside. they are trying to make sure that nobody is left under this rubble. it was then that a man came up to us. he was the baby's grandfather. her name, baby miku. >> you knew she was alive because you were able to reach in there and touch and you she grabbed her hand? >> he said we could see her. he honked at his tiny pickup and he drove it a a texas man has undergone the first-ever elbow to elbow transplant. reggie cook fell asleep at the wheel seven years ago. an accident that left him a quadriplegic. he can't use his left arm. at first he suggested a surgeon cut it off, but then he had a better idea. and i said, you know, this arm paralyzed, can we possibly use the elbow from this? and then a light went off in the doctor's head. >> doctors plan to remove his left arm, then transplant that elbow into his right arm. he said the use of his right arm will give him something he dearly craves, his independence. time right now is 9:41. climbing through the 70s there. warmer than it should be for this time of year. maybe 15 or 20 degrees warmer in spots. are saying it's nice and others are saying they can't stand it. we have a variety. even the possibility of showers coming your way in the next seven days. live doppler showing we have a sweep and detecting nothing but clear sky, a big dome of high pressure. the upper levels of the atmosphere allowing for an easterly wind flow. that's the offshore flow and that will aid in the warmup today. it will be light and late in the day we get a wind shift. right now a live look outside from the east bay hills camera. looks pretty nice and feels good with 50s and 60s around the bay. 59 in oakland with 61 san francisco. mountain view 63. mid-60s for you san jose and morgan hill and on the coast already at 66 degrees. another 10, 12, maybe 14 degrees of warming there. so its going to be a warm day today. lots of sun and more 80s for you. low 80s could be a possibility. and breaking some records. 59 in fairfield with upper 50s in napa, as well. 57 santa rosa. concord at 63. and still 58 degrees in livermore. so we've had those warm 80s the past day or so in our inland east bay. and today it will get even warmer. but our near east bay featuring low 80s, as well. sunny and warmer today for everyone with slightly cooler highs tomorrow. that sea breeze kicks in a little stronger and we will look for a possibility. looks likely. and hopefully it will still hold together for widespread rain on friday. we still have plenty of time between now and then. but these long period swells increase the risk of sneaker waves and that's why we have a hazard statement extended through tonight with dangerous conditions from sonoma to monterey. not only is it going to be sunny, temperatures will be warm and the air temperature and the lack of wind will make it a very comfortable at our beaches. the next couple of hours notice the arrow, the direction of the wind offshore. and then this indicates how light the wind is all throughout the afternoon. later on we will get a bit of a breeze, but not much. and we will look for the 70s, upper 70s in parts of point reyes and then bodega bay about 70. 77 santa cruz and only 55-degree water temperature. in the south bay warm. 835 morgan hill, san jose and on the peninsula maybe some records from mountain view and palo alto. and 78 downtown. in the north bay the orange here indicating the warmth. 87 cloverdale, 81 by the water in vallejo. 83 union city. fremont 84. you head inhad land and numbers will climb through the 80s in brentwood and antioch today with 84 pleasanton. this is what we are looking at hopefully, a little bit of rain coming our way by the end of the week. so there is, we hope it pans
