live doppler 7. >> chris, that's right. snow in the sierra. interesting weather today as we look at live doppler 7. looks rather normal, right? well, as we go into the north, you'll notice a rotation in the clouds here. the weather system bringing snow to the sierra nevada. 2 to 5 inches possible. to the beach we go. 58 in santa cruz and boy a, cool and breezy day here. 60s san jose and look at this. this is why. you can see the clouds in the mountains. it looks like january but we are looking at temperatures in the 40s for highs in south lake. 61 novato. the winds gusting to 30 miles an hour at the airport. 22 mile an hour gusts from oakland, mountain view, 25 mile an hour gusts for san carlo. your forecast calls for the temperatures to be in the 50s and 60s by noontime and the winds even stronger. the temperatures slightly cooler. could see even an isolated shower or thunderstorm here later on today. i'll give you the probability, talk about your neighborhood weather forecast and look at the warmer seven-day outlook in a few minutes. >> lisa, we'll see you soon. the swim portion of the escape from alcatraz triathalon is canceled due to gusty winds. they con susulted with the sfpd marine division. it started at marina green with biking at 8:30 this morning. 9:02 is our time. a school district in brentwood issued a public apology after a senior who also happens to be a private in the u.s. army was told he couldn't walk during his graduation if he wore his uniform. abc 7 news reporter lisa luge i don't know explains. >> he's no ordinary private first class army reservist. he finished basic training at 17 and this is his high school graduation party. >> thanks for showing up. >> unfortunately, he missed his graduation ceremony at liberty high school. he missed the excitement, the energy, the camaraderie because of this. >> he basically told me this is a graduation ceremony. you're not allowed to wear that uniform. you're supposed to wear a cap and gown. >> school administrators told harley he could borrow a cap and gown. he refused to cover up his uniform and left. >> i was in disbelief. but to see my husband devastated and my son devastated, being told he couldn't wear his uniform was crushing. >> liberty union high school superintendent released this apology. citing state legislation that allows a high schooler who has completed basic training to wear a uniform at graduation. he goes on to say, "no slight was meant to harland, nor the u.s. army. in fact, with a little prior notification, i'm sure that principal walsh and the site administration would have come to this conclusion before the ceremony." that's not true say the fletchers. >> he had spoken to his counselor several times over the weeks leading up to the graduation. she had advised him yes, it's acceptable. >> he plans to pick up his diploma on monday. he hasn't ruled out the possibility of filing a lawsuit against the school district. lisa amin ga liege an, abc 7 news. after a mother and her 3-year-old child were injured by a hit and run driver. it happened sometime between 8:00 and 9:00 in the south and market area between folsom. the mother and the child had been taken to the hospital. there's no word on the extent of their injuries. palo alto police are turning to social media to catch a killer in a case dating back 16 years. on june 10, 2001, someone shot and killed this 21-year-old outside of the now closed q cafe nightclub on alma street. she was celebrating her birthday with friends and family. police say they don't believe she was targeted. but they still don't have a motive. >> in our circle of friends, we don't know anyone who has been murdered. we don't know anyone that's in a gang. >> police have rereleased a video that they hope will result in new leads. they're asking people to share it on social media. we have posted it on our website, abc 7 news.com. 9:05 is the time. we now know the name of a man shot and killed in sunnyvale three days ago. 21-year-old was found dead in a parking lot thursday morning. a second victim was wounded, but they are expected to survive. this is sunnyvale's first homicide this year. a deadly crash involving two motorcycles and a truck closed down all eastbound lanes of 580 in the east bay yesterday afternoon. abc 7 news was at the scene in livermore. a motorcyclist who the chp says was going over 90 miles per hour lost control and rear ended a pickup truck causing another rider to crash. the motorcyclist that collided with the pickup died at the scene while the other was taken to a trauma center. all lanes have since reopened. morgan hill police arrested the man accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a gas station. 27-year-old richard dollar hyde was taken into custody last night. he went into a convenience store and demanded free items. the woman working there told him to leave. but police say he dragged her towards a back storage room. she was able to hit him in the we have new details on the officer-involved shooting in brentwood. you can see the damage done to a home on birchwood drive friday night. a car hit the home. at some point at least one officer opened fire on the two men inside that car. one man was shot in the hip, a neighbor heard several gunshots. >> he was on the ground yelling, i'm hit, i'm hit. he was cussing and swearing at himself. >> another suspect suffered a facial injury. no officers were hurt. the brentwood police department and the contra costa district attorney's office are now investigating. time now is 9:07. as a church in the east bay, a call for shots fired turned into a hate crime investigation. abc 7 news was in san leandro where police say a man fired shots into a statue at a church yesterday afternoon. police say responding officers struggled with him before forcibly removing his gun and taking him into custody. police haven't said what prompted them to classify it as a hate crime. investigators are looking into the cause of a grassfire about a mile east of the oakland international airport. the fire broke out near 98th avenue and empire road a little after 9:00 last night. while the lot is mostly empty, multiple campers and trailers were set on fire. fire crews had to request additional support and battled the flames for 45 minutes before getting it under control. dub nation is hoping for a championship win during game 5 of the finals in oakland tomorrow. both the warriors and the cavs arrived back in the bay area yesterday. abc 7 news reporter lonni rivera spoke with the warriors fans who aren't deterred by friday's loss. >> the warriors are back in the bay and the chance for championship history is still within reach. >> it would be a historic moment that the bay area would be super proud of. >> the dubs have a chance to wrap things up on their home court, something that's never happened in warriors history. >> it's always great to win the championship game, but in your home arena, in front of your home fans, especially since they're going to be moving to frisco in a couple of years. >> 2015's win on the road was memorable. the stain from 2016's defeat from the cavs lingers. a victory at home this year would be squeet. >> sweet. >> it would be awesome to come back from last year and win it this year, that would be great. >> in downtown san francisco, the cavs >> oh, yes. absolutely. >> i lost my son mark on 9/11. on every other issue i'm a liberal. but when it comes to the imposition of sharia law to -- on american soil, i'm very much against it. >> across the honking traffic were many who interpreted the message from a different angle. >> i think it's very clear what they're saying is based on a lack of knowledge about islam and about sharia. >> 120 bay area civil rights and faith groups organized this counter protest from 11:00 to 3:00. it came from san francisco to santa cruz. >> it's amazing to see so many people come up in the name of unity as opposed to standing against one religious tradition. >> sign-toting activists periodically walked across the street to infiltrate the other side for a while. but police kept them on the sidewalks and off the lanes of traffic. >> it's completely peaceful here. >> others felt harassed. >> just walking around the bay yar with the hat in general, it's like a target on my back. >> this ideological showdown ended peacefully and santa clara, i'm leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. hundreds of people also gathered in roseville yesterday. three groups held demonstrations. one calling themselves anti-sharia law. a counter protest group calling them anti-fascist and a third for unity. >> showing my support for the muslim community and to say we're glad you're here, we want you here. >> at least one person was arrested in connection with the protests. although it is unclear which group that individual belonged to. legendary actor adam west, the man who played batman in the 1960s television series has died. west played the caped crusader for 120 episodes on abc. he is widely known for being the original tv batman. reporter melissa mcbride from our sister station in l.a. takes a look back at the life of adam west. >> batman! >> for only three seasons adam west was batman on the hit tv series in the late 1960s. but it was the role he would be known for throughout his decades-long career. just two weeks ago he signed autographs with burt ward who played his side kick robin on the show. >> 75% of my time on this planet has been working with adam west. >> ward said west seemed to be in good health. the passing of his good friend was unexpected. they were good friends on and off the set. >> when we would get together and people would see us together, they start laughing. i wouldn't -- what's wrong? my shirt? why are people laughing at us? there was some chemistry, some magic that -- from the very day that we met. >> west continued acting and doing voiceover work. over the years he made time for is devoted fans.e made time for julie new march who spoke with us by phone played cat woman on the show. >> he was so adored and so kind and generous to people. always there with them. >> fans of the caped crusader paid tribute to him at his star on the walk of fame. west had an upcoming autograph signing tour and ward says it won't be the same without batman at his side. >> he will always be in my heart. i can hear his voice as sure as i'm speaking to you. and i just have a feeling that our connection was so great that somehow i'm going to hear his voice and if i do, i'm going to pass it on to every adoring fan. because he would want it that way. >> melissa mcbride for abc 7 news. time now is 9:19. it was the perfect day for a parade and this one kicked off opening day at the san mateo county fair yesterday. groups were invited to celebrate the fair's 80th year. the music group smashmouth will perform. they're the headliner. the fair will be open through june 18th at the san mateo county fairgrounds. good morning to you. here's a look at live doppler 7 where i'm not picking up much right here. wait until i widen the perspective. boy, we have interesting weather to talk about. this upper level low going blossom here as it descends from the north. it's going to track over the sierra nevada. right now, 39 degrees at blue canyon and this is snow. june 11th and snow in carson city. also further down to south lake and kirkwood. bear valley. already snowing on top of mt. rose. no accumulation yet. but it's slushy on the roadways. so that's why the national weather service has issued a winter weather advisory through tomorrow morning. we're talking about slick roads, big camping season here. what's impacted here is interstate 80. highway 50 with winter driving and 5 to 10 inches of snow. about 5500 feet. wild weather. we have a picture in a moment. right now, look still on top of mt. tam. we've had winds very gusty. they'll continue throughout the day today. 20 to 30 mile an hour gusts, anywhere from 1500 feet to 2500 feet. 55 in san francisco. 60 san jose and mountain view and half moon bay at 57 degrees. wind gusts anywhere from 30 to 37 miles an hour at sfo. no delays reported yet. you can see the shaking camera. by the delta, winds haven't been too strong. but we are looking at breezy winds for concord and livermore and finally, the sierra nevada. doesn't it look like january? show you a nice shot from santa cruz where it looks beautiful. breezy with temperatures in the 60s for highs and locally, we are looking at some very gusty winds and temperatures that are pretty much still in the 50s except for that mountain view in san jose at 50 degrees. 61 in oakland i should say. look at the camera shaking here. you can see the golden gate bridge. it's going to be a very windy afternoon. 59 santa rosa and napa with 60 in concord and temperatures anywhere from 5 to 15 degrees below average with winds up to 23 mile an hour gust this is novato and about 22 mile an hour wind gust this is mountain view. it's going to be a brisk day. winter weather advisory for the sierra nevada. you're looking at that scene right now where snow, not sticking to the ground yet. but we could testify next week about russia's connection to the white house and the firing of the fbi director. this amid fallout over the former director's explosive testimony. abc news reporter mary bruce has investigation is bringing new scrutiny to the attorney general, jeff sessions. >> we need to make america great again. >> sessions was the first senator to ep dors candidate trump. in march citing the campaign ties sessions recused himself from overseeing the russia investigation. >> i should not be involved in investigating a campaign. >> but james comey hinted there was more to it. >> we also were aware of facts that i can't discuss in an open setting. that would make his continued engagement in a russia-related investigation problematic. >> a big new wrinkle today. comey's suggestion that there are untold stories about why jeff sessions decided to recuse himselfment. >> investigators are looking at this event, trump's first major foreign policy address at a d.c. hotel last year. >> it's time to shake the rust off america's foreign policy. >> that's the russian ambassador, sergey kislyak being shown to the first row and jeff sessions. >> investigators want to know if hey had any interaction at thid that he and kislyak had two other encounters after initially denying any contact. >> what we have is a pattern of contacts with the russian by flynn, by sessions, by kushner. secret and then concealed. >> mary bruce, abc news, washington. democratic senator dianne feinstein is calling on the head of the senate judiciary committee to question attorney general jeff sessions and any issues related to obstruction of justice. she appeared this morning cnn's state of the union. >> i believe that the judiciary committee has the oversight responsibility for the justice department. therefore, it is fitting for the attorney general to appear there. and sessions ought to come back before the judiciary committee. >> feinstein says the judiciary committee is the place to go because the senate intelligence committee is not made up of lawyers. she says if answers are to come from obstruction of just disfrom president trump and with james comey, it should come from the judiciary committee. president trump is expected to reveal his new policy with cuba this week. officials say it could reverse changes made under former president obama's opening with the island. that may include restricting business with the cuban military and u.s. travel that resembles tourism. a person familiar with te plan says president trump will announce the policy this friday during a speech in miami. the white house says the timing of that has not been finalized. new this morning, police in new jersey are investigating a massive house explosion that left a man in critical condition. that man is in the hospital being treated for second-degree burns, but he is expected to survive. authorities believe a gas eggs explosion caused the blast that also damaged a neighboring home. nearly 2,000 customers were without power after the explosion. but power has since been restored. time now is 9:34. a missouri man in prison for nearly 17 years for robbery has been released after his supporters found another man who they say is his doppelganger. richard jones on the right is now a free man. the man on the left has the same first name but is known as ricky. an investigation found that there was no evidence linking jones to the 1999 crime when attorneys showed the two pictures of the men to the victim, that victim was unable to tell them apart. jones was released last week. happening today, los angeles will end its pride celebrations with the resist march. the march will replace the annual pride parade. organizers say the resist march was inspired by the women's marches that took place after president trump's inauguration. thousands of people are expected to participate in today's march. it started at 9:00 this morning at hollywood and highland in los angeles. over in washington, d.c., capital pride celebrations are happening all weekend. there will be a street festival and concert today headlinedly miley cyrus. thousands of people lined the streets of the city to wacht pride parade. this is the 42nd year of pride celebrations in the nation's capital. happening today, the bay area will celebrate pride month in san jose with the equality march and the unity and pride rally. organizers say the two events give the community a chance to come together and show support for the inclusion of diverse backgrounds. the march starts at 11:00 this morning at san jose city hall and the rally starts at 1:00 this afternoon at plaza decesar chav chavez. cars 3 is about to drive into theaters across the country. first, the stars made a pit stop
