This morning, Oakland Police are searching for a gunman who opened fire on a Downtown Hotel wounding a cab driver. We were there when the shots rang out in front of the marriott. The hotel is hosting the Ohio State Football Team in town to play cal. Alan wang has more. Reporter shots rang out just as an abc sports anchor was about to go live in front of the Marriott Hotel in oakland. Police think this man may be a suspe suspect. It happened around 3 00. And ohio state football fans dressed in red arrived to a crime scene outside their hotel, where the buckeye Football Team is also staying. Witnesses said two shooters were firing at each other and a stray bullet struck a cab driver at the hotel taxi stand. He was standing right next to me. I heard the shots and i went down right here by the tire. He was screaming, call 911, i got shot. Reporter witnesses say the cab driver was standing right in this spot when the bullets rang out from broadway street. They say he turned around to run and was shot in the back of the thigh. One of the bullets struck the wall right here. There are at least three other bullet holes on the side of the marriott. But the buckeye fans we spoke to seemed unfazed. Its like any city, anyplace, it can happen anyplace. Its the unfortunate state of our culture. But it can happen anywhere, anytime. Reporter still police say shootings are rare in the heart of downtown oakland. Now theyre examining hotel surveillance cameras trying to identify the suspects. In oakland, alan wang, abc 7 news. New this morning, police in antioch are investigating a car crash that killed a teenager and injured a second person. It happened after 7 00 on hillcrest avenue and Sterling Hill drive. Authorities say a car hit a curb and slammed into a tree. A teenager inside that vehicle is believed to be under 18 died at the scene. The second person was airlifted to the hospital with lifethreatening injuries. The cause of the crash is not known but investigators believe speed may have been a factor. A Fremont Police who was responding to a call rammed into a motorcyclist and injured the rider who also works for the Fremont Police department. This happened about a block from American High School on fremont boulevard. Abc 7 news anchor ama daetz has more. Reporter tow truck operators struggled to remove a motorcycle embedded in the front end of a police cruiser. The accident happened gist before 4 00 p. M. As the officer was responding to a nonemergency call. The police car struck the back of the motorcycle. The motorcycle rider was thrown to the ground and impacted the back of the truck. Reporter the 6 year veteran of the Police Department hit a fellow employee, a 29yearold woman whos worked for the department for about 18 months. It was scary. But there was radiator fluid dripping everywhere. Reporter she saw the woman lying on the ground. We department see any blood so we assumed that she was physically okay. They did take off her helmet after the paramedics arrived and she was moving her fingers and her hands. Reporter the woman was taken to the hospital with serious but nonlifethreatening injuries. The pickup truck driver and the officer were not hurt. In fremont, ama daetz, abc 7 news. Transit police in oakland are investigating a collision between a bus and a car. There were three family members inside that car. It happened just before 7 00 last night at the intersection of fifth and brush streets. A paratransit bus was involved. I was in the passenger side of the car. When the light turned green, she went. Cab blew the red light. Nailed us. Car spun around a couple of times. Stopped. Kid was screaming. The driver of the car said the bus driver came to her and apologized. The couples 7yearold daughter was taken to the hospital for observation. This morning, theres a warning for students and staff at stanford after a woman was tackled while jogging on campus. She was running on the path tuesday night. Just before 9 00, a man grabbed her and pulled her to the ground but the woman managed to get away. The police say the suspect is 56 and was wearing dark pants and a dark sweatshirt. A manhunt is under way in el cerrito. This attack happened monday night before 7 00. The victim was walking under the el cerrito b. A. R. T. Station. Police say the man in this sketch punched the victim in the head and pinned her arms against her body. A resident heard the victim scream and scared off the attackers. Hes described as in his 20s. A fundraiser will be held to benefit the mother of an el sobrante child who was killed. Our media partner reports todays fundraiser will be held at ranchos sports bar from noon till 4 00. Closing arguments will begin on monday in the penalty phase of the trial of convicted serial killer joseph naso. Yesterday jurors heard from one of nasos former modeling clients. She says she believes hes guilty but does not think he should get the death penalty. He was convicted for killing four women in the 1970s and 1990s. If the jury is not unanimous on the death penalty, hell receive life in prison without parole. Not since the b. A. R. T. Strike of 1979 have managers taken control of the trains. Now b. A. R. T. Officials say thats one of the options theyre considering if b. A. R. T. Workers strike next month. Reporter the backup heading to the bay bridge has been extending well into the night lightly and for drivers stuck in the afternoon commute, the prospect of another b. A. R. T. Strike is unsettling. You couldnt get out of the building. Took 10, 15 minutes just to get out of the parking garage when b. A. R. T. Wasnt working. If there is a lengthy strike, we think the public is going to look at b. A. R. T. And say, what are you doing to try to provide some type of skeletal train service. We want to be able to present to our board an option that includes limited service. Reporter that hasnt happened since 1979. Back then, trains with managers at the controls got rolling in the last weeks of a threemonth strike. Almost immediately after b. A. R. T. Management raised that option, Union Leaders quickly raised warning flags. I would be extremely concerned if theyre thinking about having managers running trains. The passengers safety is paramount and that would be compromised if they chose to do that. Reporter training behind the train starts four months. B. A. R. T. Is also looking to charter more buses than were used during the fourday strike earlier this summer. But b. A. R. T. Managers are making contingency plans and theyre hoping commuters are, too. Drivers in San Francisco will have to deal with an extra traffic headache. The onramp will be closed starting at 8 00 p. M. And will reopen before the morning commute. A lifesaving Warning System is back up and running in san mateo county. The sirens have been down for more than a month. Work to upgrade the system began in august. But then things had to be sped up after officials discovered only three of the eight sirens were working properly. The new system is able to broadcast voice messages instead of just a siren. The tsunami alert system covers a 30mile stretch. Oakland city officials and the Alameda County sheriff, its a story youll only see here. This morning, cal fire Officials Say full containment of the morgan fire is expected by 6 00 tonight. Crews are still mopping up and patrolling the fire perimeter on mt. Diablo. It is 95 contained right now. Authorities believe the fire was started by target shooting on sunday afternoon. Its burned more than 3,100 acres. But no structures were destroyed. At least 34 people are hurt after a Greyhound Bus overturned in ohio this morning. It happened around 4 00 eastern time, about 26 miles north of cincinnati. The bus was carrying 52 people and was on its way to detroit. Police say injuries range from minor to severe. No word yet on what caused the crash. To whats being called biblical flooding across colorado thats left at least four people dead and more than 200 people unaccounted for. Residents saying theyve never seen anything like it. Homes up to their roofs with waters. Rescuers using canoes to get people to safety. Ginger zee has the latest. The huge fire that destroyed much of the jersey shore boardwalk is considered suspicious. The fire broke out in a frozen custard shop on the boardwalk. Flames driven by 30mileanhour winds quickly spread, destroying dozens of businesses. Investigators are calling the ruins a crime scene. The boardwalk had been painstakingly rebuilt after being battered by Superstorm Sandy just last year. Governor Chris Christie vowed the boardwalk will be rebuilt again. California Health Officials are warning people not to eat an imported candy. The latest batch of santos rewadi sugar candy has more than double the level of lead.
