>> reporter: earlier it was a loud demonstration that lasted about three hours at the alameda down building in downtown oakland, the chaining of the front doors was mostly symbolic. >> we are here world, you know? >> we don't cooperate with i.c.e., as far as we're not involved in front line enforcement. >> reporter: of the tens of thousands of people that went through alameda county jails last year, only 165 were released to i.c.e. >> there is a criminal element that is very, very small that we do engarj with in our jails and these are people that do very violent crimes that the u.s. government and i.c.e. is looking to deport them. >> reporter: there were four arrests for trespassing. this group marched through sample calling for president trump to put an end i.c.e. deportations. in san jose, the annual march for working families had a different tone this year, jonathan bloom is live in downtown to explain. jonathan? >> reporter: in years past, the march has ended here just outside san jose city hall, but this year it kept going right to the sap center, it was bigger and louder here in part because of unrest here in silicon valley because of what's happening in washington. it took demonstrators just seconds to tear down a symbolic wall that read alternative facts. >> we didn't know that you could make up alternative facts until a year ago. >> reporter: in the shadow of san jose city hall, it was one of four walls the marchers broke down. >> because our idiot president wants to build walls, we're not for that, we're not for walls between peoples, we're not for walls between borders. >> it's a spin on a tradition more than a century old. >> this holiday got started as a celebration of the effort to get an workday. >> these tech companies are fakifak taking over and they're booming and we don't even have job security now. >> reporter: bob jung is protesting today. >> i go and clean up their offices, these people are part of our community. >> reporter: from service workers to farm workers. organizers say some were gal n galvanized by the women's march. because there's nothing like a common cause to bring progressives together. >> in the past 100 days, i think we have shown that if we stand up and fight back, we can actually win. sturvets at one san jose school held their own march today. the staff at caesar chavez elementary invited parents and danced and marched around the school. >> this isn't a protest for politics, but this is for them to know that they're special and that they can achieve anything that they want. >> the march took place during recess, not during class time. this is so the school would not loses any funding which happens when students don't attend class. san francisco mayor helped lead marchers down market street to celebrate international workers day. abc7 news reporter is live from civic center plaza with that part of our team coverage. >> reporter: while may day is always about the workers, it seems that every year there is a different cause, a different issue, and clearly this year here in san francisco, it was all about immigration. san francisco's immigration offices were surrounded by protesters early this morning, calling for an end to the deportation of undocumented people. >> this may day we are really making sure that all immigrant families are standing together against the deportation and delawad dedetentions of immigrant families. >> a lot of our families are feeling really fearful after this new president. so we're standing in solidarity to show them they do have a voice. >> reporter: they celebrated may day which has always been about protecting the rights of all workers. dock workers at the port of oakland took the day off. >> there's no cargo moving in the port for eight hours. >> reporter: this year a group of volunteers wearing yellow vests were on hand to help keep things running without incident. >> we are as monitors and team leaders, we are asking them not to create any problems or destroy any plot. >> reporter: market street in downtown s was packed with marchers making their way to civic center plaza. here and along the route, people kept it peaceful, calling this a march for all americans. things are calming down in portland, oregon after what started as a peaceful may day march was declared a riot. police say anarchists threw smoke bombs and flares at officers. police say newspaper roust people have been detained. we have put together a photo album of all the protests happening around the area. san francisco police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened this afternoon in the sunset cricket. a 15-year-old driver died from his injuries, his 16-year-old passenger was not hurt. >> reporter: well, homicide detectives and officers were out here for about four hours this aternoon, processing the scene. we have some video of the victim's vehicle to show you before it was towed from this area. you can see there are several bullet holes along the side of the vehicle, sfpd says the 15-year-old driver died at a nearby hospital. his 16-year-old passenger who was also male was not injured. investigators are now looking for any possible suspects and surveillance video, and police tell us they are following up on a lead. >> there was mention of a vehicle in the area at that time, so at this time we're going to see if there's anything related that we can find. >> it was really scary seeing the car with the gunshots, with the holes in the door, that was really upsetting. >> reporter: several neighbors told us that it is pretty quiet in this area except for the occasional car break in, they say they don't really see violent crime around here. live in . new details tonight in that mob robbery on b.a.r.t. a couple weekends ago. two teenaged suspects have now been arrested. one of them was arrested for a separate robbery friday afternoon when police discovered he had a warrant out for the b.a.r.t. robbery. b.a.r.t. says 40 juveniles jumped the turnstiles and robbed and beat people on the train car. the jury ask about to deliberate in the sierra lamar murder trial. >> it comes four other students, one fatality. you can see 21-year-old ken derricks white being taken into custody this afternoon. white walked up to four male students and attacked them with a hunting knife. also in texas, a dallas paramedic was injured after responding to a shooting this morning. police say that paramedics had just started work on a man when someone started shooting. >> he went in loon and he pulled the paramedic out, placed him in his squad car and drove him to baylor hospital. >> reporter: >> the suspected shooter was later tracked to a nearby home, he was found dead inside. he was just released from jail two months ago. closing arguments will be heard tomorrow in this sierra lamar murder case, the morgan hill teenager disappeared five years ago. the prosecution blames andrew torres for her murder. david lui is live at the san jose courthouse tonight. >> garcia torres never took the stand as indicated, he also is going to be facing a jury trial in terms of a possible life sentence, or possibly the death penalty if the jury finds him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. he never took the stand in his own defense. that means the jury is going to need to rely on dna evidence as well as witness testimony from people who did take the stand. the jury has been listening to one expert witness after another discussing dna evidence and learning about the digital trail sierra lamar left on her lap top before leaving for school on march 16, 2012, they never heard that her body had been found, but it's a murder case based on circumstantial evidence. angelo torres may face the death penalty depending on what the jury decides. michael kent, the former prosecutor says closing arguments by the prosecutor and the defense will be important. >> what the prosecution is going to say is when you look at this mountain of evidence, that there's no other rational explanation, then mr. garcia torres kidnapped and killed sierra lamar, there's no other way we can look at this that makes sense based on all the evidence. >> reporter: sierra lamar is 16 at the time and the focus of a large volunteer effort. it has been an emotional case, but the jury will need to set aside those thoughts and focus on the law. >> when they get back in there, they have to put the emotion aside and look at this in a very intellectual and factual way when they make this decision, regardless of the emotion, regardless of sympathy for sierra lamar's family and for garcia torres what's facing rest of his life or the death sentence. hosts for air b and b and it's rival is 190% of the historic average from may 1, that's nearly double the norm. the last time we had this much snow was 19 years ago after a major el nina winter. >> northern sierra is a little less, central and southern are right near that 190 mark, so clearly an extremely good year in terms of the snow pack. >> i found some nasa satellite images and i'm going to use them to show you the dramatic difference. look how little snow there is and now look at the band of snow down the sierra range, what a difference in just four years time? now since the sierra snow produces one-third of california's water, this is great news to farmer who is had to make do with a lot less the past few years, to urban dwellers, like bay area resident who is face drought restrictions and skier who is may be able to hit the slopes at a few resorts maybe until july. if we get a string of hot days, too much snow can melt at once potentially causing flooding. water officials say they'll monitor that years. >> i'm going to give you a look another the temperature trend tomorrow in concord, which is one of our hot spots in a pattern like this, as you can see early in the morning, it will be about 62 degrees, then by midday, we'll see the temperature rising up to about 85 in concord, then in the mid to late afternoon, we'll see temperatures ranging from 90 to 92 degrees. temperatures will be rising sharply, even on the coast. right now we're looking at live doppler 7, and as dan pointed out, we have blue skies all across the area, but it's still quite mild out there. here's a look at today's high temperatures. we topped out at 90 degrees in clover, 81 here in san francisco. it was sizzling all around the bay area and we'll probably see even higher temperatures in some of those places tomorrow and wednesday. right now temperatures are anywhere from 5 to about 15 degrees higher than they were at this hour yesterday. in fact mountain view is 15 degrees warmer than at this time yesterday evening. right now you see temperatures ranging from about 68 at half moon bay, still some upper 80s in our inland areas, so the meat is slow to recede. this is the view of the western sky. these are our forecast features, it will be warm to hot in the next few days. record highs are possible tomorrow and wednesday. we'll see temperatures dropping sharply on thursday and friday, as a much cooler pattern settles in. skies will be clear, but it's going to be quite mild, with low temperatures in the middle to low 50s. temperatures will drop only to the low 60s in places like antioch, concord and fairfield. we'll see mid to upper 80s right around the bay. moving into the low to mid 90s in the north baya valleys. concord, livermore, upper 80s in san jose and morgan hill. going back to santa cruz beach right now, our projected high temperatures wednesday in certain bay area locations, versus the current record highs for may 3 in those locations, concord will break the record for may of 91, we expect napa and san jose to be very close for records on may 3. and on thursday, as i mentioned, we'll have a rather sharp cooling trend, and temperatures will be about 10 to 12 degrees lower in most bay area locations than they had been on wednesday. by friday, we're looking at breezy and even cooler conditions for most of the bay area, let's take a look at weather wellness, especially if you're an allergy sufferer, an increase in tree pollen and grass pollen the last couple of days. uv index is high, and that's something important to keep in mind, if you're going to have extended exposure to the sun, you may want to apply some sunscreen. hot conditions will prevail tomorrow and wednesday, cooling again on thursday, continues friday, and a cooler pattern will stay with ten years and takes care of the monkeys five days a week. >> it's a special job, i do feel lucky to have it. >> but sherwood is upset because she said that j.p. was scheduled to euthanized on april 7 and the procedure was delayed. >> i think if anybody saw the rate that this tumor grew, they would be shocked that we would keep him for another week going. >> reporter: starting at the end of march, these photos show the progression of the tumor through april 12. j.p. was euthanized the next day on april 13, after jason waters, vice president of wellness and an mall behavior sent this letter, detailing jp's decline to his boss, tanya peterson. this shows the tumor displacing some of j.p.'s teeth and jaw. >> we don't believe that we waited too long for this monkey, we believe that we let this monkey have as much time here as we could. >> reporter: waters denies there was a euthanasia scheduled for april 7, stating there was only a conversation. >> on april 7, we did feel that the monkey was okay to go until april 8 and on april 8, i thought he was okay until political 9. >> euthaniza is likely to be necessary when the tumor starts to affect jp's quality of life. but sherwood shared these text messages that she says she received on april 6 from a supervisor saying that he sat down with jason waters and it said that it would likely be tomorrow. on april 7, that supervisor texted her again saying it would likely be this afternoon. she was ready for the euthanasia at 3:55 and then she got a text saying this euthanasia is on hold. >> that's when i was told by the vet who came by that we weren't doing it. what i heard was that tanya peterson said she didn't want the media to catch wind of it and think that we euthanize too many animals andmals andmals and animals too soon. so that's why she held off >> reporter: do you feel pressure from management above not to euthanize animals for quality of life issues? >> no. >> reporter: sherwood -- >> i was surprised, to be honest with you, i thought that we had fallen on a course that was agreed upon. >> reporter: i spoke to the aquariums that says accreditation standards require the head of the zoo to have final say over euthanasia in concert with conversations with other employees at the facilities. the usda inspector visited the zoo on april 12 and report nod noncompliant issues. zoo director tanya peterson did put out a statement that we received on april 22. she said that euthanasia decisions are never taken lightly and that the animal's welfare is always a top priority. big changes coming this summer with anyone dealing with the commute crush on interstate 680. drivers would have to pay a toll to ride in his express lanes, but they would still be free for car poolers. the new signs are now being
