Reporter pilots reported a number of Close Encounters with drones and this is quite possibly the closest yet, coming within just feet of that california patrol helicopter on saturday. Pilots tell me theyre worried because there is going to be more drones in the skies. This weekends call between a chp helicopter and a drone was a surprise for the crew aboard. There is a drone here at a thousand feet. Reporter that is a portion of the radio conversation between the pilot and control tower, pilots say drones are the newest flight hazards. There was a drone around 800 feet, within 200 feet of that plane there, flying around me. That is very close. Jay is a pilot and instructor and said his Close Encounter happened just months ago. The faa expects nearly half a million drones will be lost this Holiday Season as they get amateur operators so theyre working with airports to roll out new Public Service announcements.
