Now, theyre facing Assault Charges for another inmate at the jail. First, abc7 News Reporter david louie is live in san jose with the deputys first appearance in court today. David . Reporter the three deputies are facing life in prison if found guilty of murder. Up to a year in jail if found guilty of assaulting an inmate. Their attorneys are saying there is too much paper work to review. The 28yearold, and 227yearolds showed no emotion walking into court for the first time. Facing murder charges. They didnt even look at friends and family members who packed the courtroom. The former Correctional Officers are being held without bail for beating Michael Tyree so severely, he bled to death for injuries to his spleen and liver. We filed felony Assault Charges against the Correctional Officers for an assault on a different inmate a few minutes before the murder of Michael Tyree. Reporter a number of public defenders wore pins that said tyree. The people tell us theyve experienced abuse at the hands of the staff and witnessed this abuse take the life of one of our clients. We take that personally. Reporter the county board met in closed session to discuss liability for Michael Tyrees death in the main jail. A settlement can be worth millions to the family. Its something that could be done quickly, to sort of heal the wounds of what is at this point a very tragic situation. And unnecessary. Reporter the defendants are being held at santa rita jail in pleasanton for their own protection. In san jose, david louie, abc7 news. An inmate inside Santa Clara County main jail is speaking out to what he heard and saw about the death. He spoke with Melanie Woodrow today. Reporter the inmate says he does not fear retaliation and wants everyone to know this is not the first time hed witnessed Excessive Force inside of the jail. The night before Michael Tyree died, inmate Armando Galvin heard screams. He was saying sorry. Sorry. I didnt know who it was. Reporter the deputies have been charged with tyrees murder. The night in question, the Sheriffs Office says the three correctional deputies were conducting a routine search of the inmates, and an hour lubrin returned to tyrees cell. He said does he usually [ bleep ] but he went back and calling his name. But he went back to the phone on the desk, called in it. Rafael rodriguez came in with a flashlight. Reporter he says he could see him outside of the cell. He was pumping his chest and body fluids were coming out of his mouth. Reporter according to the coroner, tyree bled to death internally. He said that were inmates and theyre Correctional Officers and who would they believe . Reporter he says the tone inside of the jail changed recently. Seems like theyre trying to keep us happy right now. Reporter a spokesperson says detectives have interviewed all inmates who witnessed the murder. Abc7 news. Today, the Marin County Sheriffs Department confirmed a body found near angel island was a missing San Francisco man. The 42yearold was last seen early monday morning and on a camping trip with his wife and friends. Several bay area agencies took part in the search last night and today. In santa rosa tonight a Homeless Group has taken over a parking lot owned by the Sonoma County water agency. Theyre calling it a last resort for help from the county. Not the nine Homeless People here or five people representing them. They seem to have been happy to achieved leverage. These homeless tents have become Center Pieces and a test of wills. Thousands of petitions were delivered to season afran city hall demanding an investigation into what some claim is a culture of corruption. Abc7 news was at city hall. Representatives of the group voiced concern over scandals at city hall. They claim a pay to play policy is pervasive with many demanding money in exchange for services or help. Many are angry and want changes to be made. He needs more Community Focus on services and Public Policy and all of those areas. This one, where a South Carolina state trooper shot an unarmed he pulled over for a seat belt violation. There was plenty of support for the bill. Police in San Francisco are collecting data such as race and gender, on traffic stops. But the original bill would have required officers to get that information from not only the driver, but passengers in the car. Police chief objected to that. If we dont have reasonable suspicion to detain somebody, we cant ask them any information. And we could not. Reporter cohen amended her bill to exclude that requirement. It also extends the collecting of race and gender data to pedestrian stops. The same information must be collected any time there is a field interview with a person. Suhr says it may take a year or so to set up the system to do that. The bill has a final vote next week. But since there is no opposition, its likely to pass. Vic lee, abc7 news. Tomorrow marks the fifth anniversary of the san bruno pipeline explosion and fire. The blast killed eight people, destroying or damaged 38 homes. This is what the area looks like today. Some homes are still being rebuilt. 200 firefighters battled the fires, and now, they remember those frightening moments when the blaze raged out of control and they helped the neighborhood recover. Its the kind of job where two days are never the same. That was the case for firefighters of engine 52. The crew lost the services of the truck. We had a mechanical fail tour on the engine and lost all power. All the crew could do was wait, but heard on the radio another Engine Company called out to a medical emergency at the Shopping Mall across the so we decided to grab our gear and run on foot. We knew wed beat the engine responding to it. Reporter hauling 60 pounds of gear, the firefighters ran to get to the man in cardiac arrest behind the store. A woman was already there doing cpr. We ended up getting the guy stabilized and by the time we got him to the hospital, he had a heartbeat. The victim, a Maintenance Worker is in Critical Condition at a local hospital.
