barely in the 60's by lunchtime. it is cool for october. we will take a look at the highs in a few minutes. kumasi: it may be a tense day of class at six high schools across. the bay area today. all of the schools from san jose to san francisco to fremont hit with false threats of a shooter on campus and that forced some of the schools into lockdown. reporter lena helen is live with more on the stress that people are doing with now. -- dealing with now. lena: an unnecessary level of stress hit families and students in the middle of the day yesterday over a false call of an active shooter. the sheriff's office says this is a tactic where someone calls in and creates a fake emergency intended to be an extraordinary chain of events that causes a tremendous amount of panic. around the same time that fake call was happening in fremont, school officials got the same call in the south bay, the peninsula, and san francisco over the claim of an active shooter that later turned out to be unfounded. while parents tell us they are thankful no one was injured, they worried -- they are worried that more will take place next. >> the worry is even stronger because you fear that the next time something really is happening that perhaps they will not respond with. such efficiency like they did today. . lena: lieutenant kelly with the sheriff's office says his office believes these calls are related to another series of calls from last month and that one person may be behind all of this. there are several law enforcement agencies working on the investigation with the idea -- but the idea of swatting is not just happening in the bay area. this is a nationwide trend. we will explain why mental health officials say this belief this could lead to serious problems. live agreement, lena helen and, abc7 news. reggie: we will talk about a pivotal moment in the investigation into the january 6 insurrection. the committee investigating will give their closing argument ahead of the number midterms. we will hear what we will hear this morning. jobina: the house committee will unveil new details in what is likely to be their final public hearing. their focus will be delving into former president trump's mindset and effort to overturn the election. today's hearing is not expected to include live witnesses but it will include new video of witness testimony including information from the committee cast a recent interview with ginni thomas, the wife of supreme court justice clarence thomas. the closing argument will focus on showing former president trump is still a clear and present danger to democracy. >> we are interested in telling the big story which is that this was an organized, premeditated deliberate hit against the vice president and congress to overthrow the 2020 presidential election. jobina: sources tell cnn we should not expect any kind of reportedly and they committee has not decided if it will make any criminal referrals to the justice department. more than 850 people have already been charged by the doj in the capitol attack and around half of them have pled guilty or have been convicted at trial. some have even received prison sentences. you that trump directed them to move boxes out of storage to mar-a-lago. it happened after the legal team was given a subpoena, for those classified documents. the fbi has video of the staff removing videos -- moving boxes out of the storage room. they changed their story when presented with video evidence. the investigation into whether those documents were illegally handled is ongoing. a town hall meeting will be held tonight about a really bad smell that is permeating the community in crockett and it is linked to a water treatment facility run by cnh sugar factory. the summer extreme heat caused equipment to malfunction. rental equipment had to be brought in while the parts were ordered but he did not stop the awful smell -- but it did not stop the awful smell. >> i have friends whose noses are beginning to bleed and i have been experiencing nausea, brain fog. kumasi: as of yesterday, work to repair the facility is complete but it could take a week before the smell goes away. tonight's community meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the crockett community center. reggie: a vigil today to honor the men killed in a shooting near the uc berkeley campus over the weekend. 29-year-old eli was a samoan community mentor and ministry student. he was one of four people shop in a fight broke out. he was the only person who died. tonight's vigil starts at 7:00 p.m. at the san lorenzo community church. last night the berkeley unified school district met for the first time since two students were killed at a party in oakland. one councilmember called for a regional approach to stop the violence. >> it is not an oakland issue and a richmond issue and berkeley gets the aftermath. we are all part of the dynamics that are going on in our community and the more we can work together to get guns off our streets and to deal with more of a community health approach, the more i think we can come up with solutions. reggie: oakland police have not released any new information national park to truck in water. they're refilling tank that supplies water parks. they have historically been the largest of three herds in the national seashore but the size has been dropping bay area schools with claims of an active shooter those claims turned out to be unfounded, but it didn't come without scaring quite a few families abc 7 news reporter lena howland is live in fremont selena. how is this impacting the students? well mental health officials say that these fake calls could cause some serious problems for students teachers and parents with fear and anxiety at the forefront now the alameda county sheriff's office says that this is a tactic known as swatting where someone calls in and creates a fake emergency intended to be an extraordinary chain of events that causes a tremendous amount of panic around the same time that fake call was happening here in fremont similar calls were also happening at five other high schools across the bay area. clinical psychologists, dr. andrea. zorba says the impacts of swatting canby felt by teachers parents and students as well as by the wider community. it's incredibly traumatic and a lot of us have ptsd from the other school shootings that have happened. it's something that doesn't just sort of go away when we know that that the threat is over. it's something that sticks with us for a little while. the alameda county sheriff's office says they believe these phony calls are related to another series of calls from last month and that jones's lies about the shooting were protected under the constitution. today is a very very very dark day for freedom of speech. 20 minutes he says he's recently filed for bankruptcy claiming. he has no money. he still faces one other trial over the sandy hook shooting that one will take place in texas reggie. jubina thank you new this morning an american volunteer firefighter has died in ukraine day in partridge of idaho had been in the country since april his death comes as ukraine's capital was hit by drone strikes overnight. it's unclear if anyone was killed, but it has been a week of increased violence in the country at least 13 people died and more than three dozen others were her in various strikes over the last 24 hours. rescue crews are still working to find survivors after one of those strikes hit a building and at least one instance and 11 year old boy was pulled from the rubble the pentagon plans to send advanced missiles to the region soon. this morning crews are trying to figure out how a cell phone tower caught fire overnight. it happened on 2nd street in oakland cruz got there. they saw the at&t cell towers while on fire near the bottom. it's not clear how long the tower was on fire before they were able to get it under control. and the east bay the city of oakland has now recorded its 103rd homicide of the year. it happened just before 10 o'clock yesterday morning on 11th street near mlk way just steps from the entrance of the blue cross blue shield building. responding officers learned that a man was standing outside when he was shot at least once that man was taken to the hospital where he later died. our abc 7 news photographer on the scene notice that investigators were focusing on a black corvette at that scene, but so far there are no details on what led up to the shooting. oakland continues to look for solutions to the violence yesterday morning city leaders as well as congresswoman barbara lee and senator alex padilla met to discuss what to do. a point into the grassroots effort as a possible answer. the community is engaged in violence prevention several programs utilize violence interrupters young people who are able to prevent the onset of whatever is about to take place. and i think that's a very unique and creative approach, but we need to bring it to scale. when asked about bringing in the national guard for patrols or declaring a state of emergency, senator padilla said that was not discussed. however, he left it open should oakland city officials decide to pursue it as an option. we are learning the identity of the landscape or who was killed in a wood chipper accident in menlo park the san mateo county coroner's office. say 47 says that 47 year old jesus contreras of redwood city died after falling into the chipper on tuesday investigators. say contreras be done to stop a woman they call the bird seed lady over the past two years. this woman has dumped huge piles of bird seed in the glen park area the seed not only attracts large numbers of birds, but
