Theyll start the celebration this morning at 9 00, and they have waited a while for this. The smart trains were supposed to start running last fall. But a problem with the Diesel Engine caused a delay. This 43milelong stretch will go from san rafael to santa rosa, all the way to the airport. We met a commuter who lives in santa rosa but works at marin general. Hes so ready for this train. He showed up this morning to catch a ride. Oh, it says trains will be running august 25th. And the schedule says, you know, 5 30. But i gotta go. The first train will run today, but not until 12 49. So not for the morning commute. Its going to launch out of the santa rosa airport. All the rides today will be free. And all next week, theyll be discounted by 50 cents. Theres more to come. They have a larkspur extension planned. Thats scheduled to open next year. San Francisco City leaders are preparing for the rally. Several muni bus lines will not make stops in the area around crissy field. All three cable car lines will be shut down and replaced by buses. San francisco General Hospital says its prepared in case the Event Results in serious injuries. And the Public Defenders Office is reminding people to know their rights. To not touch officers, and to truthfully identify themselves if they are detained. The counter protest against todays rally will begin today on the steps of san Francisco City hall. Mayor ed lee, members of the board of supervisors and others will gather for the unite against hate rally at noon. Tonight, two vigils in San Francisco that organizers call a stand against hate. The first starts at 5 30 at congregation emanuel on lake street. Another at 6 30 at the Chinese Culture center on kearney street. New details about the suspect accused of ramming his car into a crowd of people in virginia. 20yearold james fields jr. Was scheduled to appear in court today, but a judge has agreed to a request from prosecutors to continue that case until december 14th. Fields will have a prelim hearing then. Hes charged with Second Degree murder in the death of heather heyer, 19 other people got hurt. Now, to the other big rally this weekend that was scheduled to take place sunday in berkeley. The permit for the antimarxist event at Civic Center Plaza got denied, but that isnt expected to stop people from going there. The city cited lack of security arrangements. The chief of police is asking the public to stay away from the area on sunday. Extra officers will be on duty around the event and will try to separate protesters and counter protesters if the rally turns violent. Separation is very important when two groups come to fight. Fire investigators are now looking into the cause. An oakland man is getting 40 years to life for his role in a gun battle that killed a 30yearold innocent bystander. It comes two months after a jury convicted 27yearold alex davis of Second Degree murder in the death of shamiel pierce. She was a mother of three. Prosecutors say davis fired the shot that killed pierce. She was a bystander during a wild gun battle that played out in the streets of west oakland in march of 2015. Two other men convicted along with davis will be sentenced next month. The aclu is suing the state of california for throwing out 45,000 ballots in last years president ial election. Local Election Officials rejected those vote by mail ballots due to doubts about the signatures. The aclu claims Election Officials have no expertise when it comes to analyzing handwriting. The complaint says perez started having sex with abuslin when she was just 17 years old and the sheriff failed to train the workers. The lawsuit says perez was one of 20 Law Enforcement officers from six agencies who had sexual encounters with abuslin. Shes also suing the city of richmond. Oakland settled a claim with her for almost 1 million. New video shows an overturned big rig finally going back upright after causing major traffic delays. Thats going to put it some time in the evening to early overnight hours as a category 3 storm with a storm surge of 12 feet. Plus, theres a possibility that it gets into land and it just stalls and rains all weekend. We could get up to three feet of rain with nowhere for it to go. This poor guy was flustered as he was trying to figure out how he was now going to get to work. Said trains will be running august 25th. The schedule says 5 30. I gotta go. The schedule shows that the trains leave at 4 19, but for the purposes of our grand opening, we wanted to have a big celebration and a Community Party here, so thats the issue. And we invite everybody to come on out. The first train will run at 12 49 today. It will leave from the santa rosa airport. All of the trains today will be free, and next week, theyre going to be half price. So you can plan on using your train for your monday morning commute. But today is all about the party. The San Jose Police department is launching a new very Bold Campaign to recruit officers from the lgbt community. There are three commercials that all show a San Jose Police officer getting ready for work. Each video has a different ending showing them with their samesex partners. The board president of the Lgbtq Community center says lgbt officers are better equipped to handle issues like the higher suicide rate in the community. They understand what the lgbt Mental Health issues are, theres greater compassion and understanding of how to deal with that. If you never actually show lgbt families that are officers, young people may not consider that as a career. Police chief eddie garcia will be in this weekends Silicon Valley pride parade. The state assembly is set to hold hearings on a measure to establish universal health care in california. That bill would replace Insurance Companies entirely with a governmentrun Health System for all californians. The Senate Passed the measure earlier this year. In the assembly, a different story. Speaker Anthony Rendon has been under fire for refusing to bring it to the floor. He says it still needs key details like how the system is going to work and how it will be paid for. The Tracy Unified School District says its alarmed by the rising trend in marijuana edibles showing up on high school campuses. The edibles are in the form of candy bars, cereal, or other treat. So far, the district has come across ten cases of edibles since spring. Administrators say they started appearing after the passage of prop 64 to legalize Recreational Marijuana in california that kicks off on january 1st. Whats even more concerning to the district are the high levels of the young person was sick because maybe they ate too much. As they were in the sick and were in the office, we started to talk to them. We found out what was going on. The district wants to get the issue out in the open. It has scheduled a siri of seminars next month at high schools for parents and students. Well, you no longer have to go online to buy a book from amazon. Abc7 news was in san jose as the Company Opened its first brick and mortar store in the bay area. The opening was yesterday on santana row. The store has more than 35,000 titles chosen based on the highest online ratings. And then the reviews that you often get on amazon, those will be displayed underneath. Local book sellers arent happy about amazons move. They say they can offer more titles and a more diverse selection. Come in to explore worlds that they havent encountered b before.
