>> lisa, thank you. it was a rainy and windy saturday across the bay area. and more is coming today. [rain falling] >> the stormy weather caused problems for drivers and had crews scrambling to keep up with downed trees and power lines. some pg&e customers are in the dark because of the rain and wind. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has more. [beeping truck] >> pg&e crews are hard at work in daly city on beliveau avenue. this is just one of many spots throughout the bay area where the storm brought down power lines. >> i saw wires swinging back and forth. when they hit the electric cables, that's when the sparks came out and that's when i called 911. >> nearly 2,000 homes and businesses lost power. not far away on southbound 280 at an on-ramp a flooded roadway caused this car to stall. others slowly inched by in a foot of standing water. heavy rain and clogged drains are to blame for many flooded streets. the storm also made for dangerous driving conditions. but before the rain, came the wind, and the damage it brought. in san mateo, this large tree fell on some cable lines at el camino and beliveau. and on treasure island, the annual music festival, which goes on rain or shine, lost a lot of concertgoers once the storm came. >> this is it ridiculous. it's not fun. >> look at this, we are drenched. time to go. >> festival organizers were forced to shut down access to the pier because of high wind. in fact, medics rushed a woman to the hospital after an atm machine blew over and cut her leg. lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. >> abc7 news was in san francisco's castro district last night where you can see a large branch from a tree fell on a car. it happened across the street from sutter health. no one was hurt. also in san francisco strong winds brought down muni lines in pacific heights. traffic gas blocked during the repair work. no one was hurt by the fallen lines. downed lines were also a problem all over the bay area since the storm first hit thursday. pg&e has reported more than 173,000 outages since then. many have been restored. right now at least 1900 people in the south bay, 200 in the north bay, and 250 in san francisco are without power. >> a mudslide caused a crash on highway 101 in marin county yesterday. four vehicles were caught in muck that spilled on to 101 in corda madera. no one was seriously hurt. matt shared this beautiful photo from what passed through last night. you can use our #to share your pictures and videos with us. in oregon hurricane-force winds knocked over dozens of trees yesterday, crushing cars and homes and snapping power poles. tens of thousands of people lost power. these are pictures tweeted by police and fire departments near the portland area. you can see and hear that wind blowing in the west wills of portland. this is a poplar park and place for hiking outside a historic mansion. look how hard those trees are swaying in those strong winds. the gusts were between 50 and 6. they were even stronger along the coast works on friday a rare tornado caused a hot of damage. here you can see a metal roof damaged by the twister, and that piece just flapping like a piece of paper from yesterday's new storm. in sonoma county, authorities are searching for a gunman who shot three people, killing one. it happened just after 8:00 last night on highway 116 south in rural sebastopol. two of the victims were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. investigators have not released any details on the suspect we we are learning more about the tense moments that led up to the shooting of a san francisco police officer. officer kevin downs was shot in the head friday night and survived. he remains in critical, but stable condition this morning. police say if the bullet had struck a centimeter in the wrong direction, officer downs could have died. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana has the story. >> officer kevin downs and his partner responded to the lakeshore shopping center after security guards reported a man who was threatening customers. witnesses say there was a foot chase, then gunfire. >> two people, a cop and the other guy was running this direction, that way, and then all we heard was shots, four or five shots. then we heard a scream like an officer down like really loudly. officer downs was shot. according to the interim police chief, the bullet entered and exited his head. >> he underwent surgery to remove fragments from his brain and he still has partial paralysis on the side of his body from the shot to the head. >> he's a two-year veteran from the police short. police said he comes from a family dedicated to public service. kevin's father is a retired san francisco policeman. >> his family over the years has given so much to this city, to this country. >> officer downs even helped launch a group called ranchin' vets, which is helping service members reintegrate into civilian life. police chased him down and cornered him near edgewood. >> there was a a various number of pops and then we saw somebody running through the campus so we went into our lockdown protocol and got the kids in the stairways? stairways. >> the end the man tried to hold off police next to playground, but after an exchange of gunfire he was injured and eventually taken into custody. police have not released his name. he's recovering at san francisco general hospital along with the officer he's accused of shooting. sergio quintana, abc7 news. jury selection is expected to start tomorrow for the man who killed the teenager sierra lamar. gore sea torres has pleaded not guilty. sierra vanished on her way to school in 2012. her body was never been found, despite hours and hours of searching by police and volunteers. prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against garcia torres. his trial could last six months. in southern california police arrested a man who drove a pickup truck off a bridge in san diego, killing four people in the park below. it happened during a motorcycle festival yesterday afternoon. police say the driver was speeding on the san diego coronado bridge when he lost control, striking a guardrail. his truck fell 60 feet into that park, landing on a vender's booth near a stage where a band was performing. four people inside were crushed. nine others, including the driver, were injured. police believe the driver had been drinking and authorities have identified him as 25-year-old richard anthony sepoleo, a u.s. navy member stationed at the naval base on coronado island. check out this photo from san leandro yesterday. a car crashed through a t-shirt shop on east 14th street. almeda county fire post this had picture to instagram. they say it started as a chase yesterday afternoon. the driver lost control of the car. no one was hurt. crews were able to shore up the building so it should remain standing until it's repaired. yesterday some bay area history disappeared . video from caltrans shows crews imploding another pier from the old eastern span of the bay bridge yesterday. they used 8,000 pounds of explosives. a special bubble curtain in the water is supposed to minimize the impact on the environment. last fall a larger pier was blown up the same way. implosions are planned for the rest of the remaining piers. the next one is scheduled in two weeks. well, we've had a wet few days. lisa is here to tell us more. >> still a little bit more rain out there. we also have a coastal flood advisory and that's because the high tide coincides with the full moon. we will have some more interesting weather right along the coast today. the winds will pick up again. a little muggy right now. and from the santa cruz camera. santa cruz mountains could bear the brunt of today's storm and could receive another 1 to 4 inches of rain. we will have a live report from there coming up at 6:30. to the race to the white house. donald trump on the attack again. and wikileaks as released another batch of e-mails from the clinton campaign. abc news reporter mary bruce has the latest from washington. >> reporter: with the third and final debate just around the corner, donald trump has a new recommendation for hillary clinton and a bold accusation. >> we should take a drug test prior because i don't just locker room talk, this is what men do, hold on, what you saw was the real donald trump. >> a newly-released batch of wikileaks from a hacking of the clinton campaign, it targets hillary clinton's campaign. it's over bill clinton's past sexual misconduct allegations. the clinton team has not confirmed the authenticity of the e-mails and claims this is the work of russia to help trump. mary bruce, abc news, washington d.c. >> here's the latest washington post poll. hillary clinton continuing to lead donald trump. 47% parting her, 43% supporting him. the margin of error is plus or minus three points. the recent allegations could affect the vote against trump this november. less than a third of registered voters may not vote. overall the trump supporters enthusiasm has fallen. it was more than 90% last month, now down to 79%. for clinton, 83% of her supporters remain enthusiastic. with less than a month until election, presidential vice president nominee senator tim kaine and trump supporter just gingrich comes to "this week. it's only three days before clinton and trump square off for the third and final presidential debate. you can watch the interviews with george stephanopoulos at 8:00 this morning right here on abc7. senator bernie sanders made a campaign stop in san francisco yesterday. abc7 news was there as the former presidential candidate spoke to supporters of proposition 61. the ballot measure would require all prescription drugs bought by the state to be priced at or below the price paid by the department of veterans affairs. sanders said the skyrocketing costs of prescription drugs is hitting older people especially hard. >> elderly people are cutting their pills in half because they cannot afford the medicine that they need. >> personalized to your exact ballot. firefighters in nevada have made some progress in battling the little valley fire. it's burned more than 3400 acres since it started friday morning. it's now 20% contained. fire crews worked through strong winds in a valley in reno. the fire destroyed 22 homes. some other firefighters have been sent to help. no injuries have been reported. the cause of the fire is under investigation. now your accuweather forecast with lisa argen. >> good morning to you. a 1 on our storm impact scale today as more light rain will fall around the bay area. its concentrated in the santa cruz mountains as the front is stalled out there. an additional several inches of rain. and downstream from where the loma fire has burned. we are looking at rain locally around 680 in deanville, up here and toward fairmont drive, 580. but in palo alto, also sunnyvale and santa clara, a few light returns. san jose picking up a little bit of rain. as we get further south, the heavier rain is? monterey. we also have rain from watsonville, salinas. and even raining as far south as san luis owe -- obisto. you see it continues to move over the same area. it will take another impulse for the rain to get more on concentrated and move a little further to the north. then it will sweep on south from another impulse from the north later on tonight. so a flash flood watch for this area right here, highlighted in green. then a coastal flood watch all along the coast here throughout the day today with high tide at about 1:00. looking at the additional rainfall around boulder creek, the summit, highway 17. so certainly some dangerous conditions there. but up in the mountains it's been rain looking at temperatures in the 40s. heavy rain around blue canyon. but we are looking at a winter weather advisory until 11:00 tomorrow above 7,000 feet, around the passes. 3 to 6 inches pass i believe in the pass was wind gusts you have to 50 miles an hour. it's mild, in the low 60s everywhere. fog at the coast and fog on some of the bridges. you see from this vantage point we have dry conditions in san francisco. foggy, the golden gate bridge. rain showers south of the city for the day. then we are looking at more showers this evening for everyone. sunny and warmer next week. so beech hazard statement with those waves anywhere from 10 to 13 feet. we are combining that with the coastal flood watch all up and down the coast from sonoma to monterey. this will take us through tomorrow, as well. so as we look at the next several hours, notice where we are getting the yellows, around davenport, san jose. this is 9:00. then we are going to see the rain enhanced right on through the peninsula there. redwood city into livermore. the afternoon it looks like president clinton conditions. but then look what happens by the evening hours. we are going to pick it up and see another wave of moisture. but the rain will also accompany the wind. up to 25 miles an hour again. so this is where i want today show you the next wave of energy pushing through the bay area this evening, including the east bay, san francisco, and the north bay. so we've got a little more to go with highs today in the mid-and upper 60s. so the accuweather seven-day forecast will feature warmer weather, but not -- we have to get through today. at the coliseum it should be showery for the raiders. and we are looking at 70s with partly cloudy conditions by the afternoon tomorrow. temperatures will be in the 80s with the help of an offshore flow. we will leave the drying trend watch in effect for the santa cruz mountains. live doppler 7 picking up on the rain in the east bay. also to the south, around hayward and fremont. palo alto, a little bit of wet weather for you. into milpitas and the south bay. willow green and the lighter rain salinas. gilroy, wet weather there. the coastal flood watch throughout the day today. then we are looking at the possibility of some flooding due to the high tide. put that all together for you and talk about some rain for the north bay. a little bit for san francisco, all in my full weather outlook in just a few minutes. carolyn the changing forecast right on your phone or tablet. for the third time in a week, the u.s. navy is investigating a possible missile attack on its ships patrolling off the coast of yemen in the middle east. abc news reporter elizabeth herr has more about how it started and how it has since escalated. >> reporter: u.s. defense oficials say a group of u.s. navy ships were in international waters in the red sea when the uss mason detected possible inbound missiles and fired defensive missiles as a counter measure. no ships were hit and all american warships in the area are safe. the u.s. navy is now investigating. in the meantime, according to chief of naval operations, admiral john richardson, this may be the second attack on the uss mason and a possible third attack overall targeting u.s. ships off the coast of yemen in the past week. the first attack prompted u.s. retaliatory measures a few days ago when a u.s. warship fired tomahawk missiles into yemen. this destroyed three radar sites that the pentagon believes may have played a role in the firing. they said the missiles were fired from a houthi-controlled region in yemen. the leaders there deny the charge. they were negotiating an end to yemen's civil war. elizabeth herr, abc news, new york. newly-released video shows a chicago police officer getting attacked while trying to arrest a suspect. the officer says she did not shoot him because she feared a community backlash. a warning, this video may be disturbing. you can see the officer struggling with a man police say was high on pcp, as she tries to put him in handcuffs he grabs her hair and takes her down to the ground. other officers used their stun guns on the man. they eventually arrested him. the officer is in the hospital with head and neck injuries. a hotel clerk in michigan put his life in danger against someone who tried to rob him says he felt it was his duty. surveillance video shows a woman wearing a mask walking into the hotel and demanding money. she has a gun, and when she set it down, the quick-thinking clerk grabs it and jumps over the counter and tackles her. during the struggle, the gun went off. no one was shot. he managed to rip off her mask so the cameras could record her face. >> i saved my community, my customers, my job. and also i think this is my job. i did not want any people to be harmed or injured. >> police tracked the woman down and arrested her. allen noel, the clerk, said he does not regret fighting back, even though his wife is a little upset with him. former nfl player dennis byrd, whose career with the new york jets ended early because of a neck injury, was killed in a car accident. byrd was involved in a head-on collision yesterday near his home in oklahoma. back in 1992 byrd suffered a broken neck after slamming headfirst into a teammate, leaving him briefly paralyzed. he never fully recovered from the injury, walking with some difficulty and going through continuous rehab. byrd was 50 years old. had. >> a high school football coach in toledo, ohio could face disciplinary action for his response to a student's national anthem protest. the student refused to stand like niners quarterback colin kaepernick, whose protest has inspired similar actions all over the nation. the teenager said his coach did not like the gesture. >> he said, you aren't colin kaepernick. i'm not trying to be. you don't disrespect our country and flag. you can just leave. >> the district released a statement supporting first amendment rights, saying if players choose to sit or neil during the playing of the national anthem, they will not face disciplinary action and they can participate in the game. school officials promises to make the policy clear to all coaches. still ahead on abc7 mornings, see how fillmore and filburt streets for almost two decades. abc7 news reporter wayne friedman explains why their lease is now in jeopardy. >> it's a story in imbo with employees in limbo. >> we are crossing stripes dinner marin county. the event held in kentfield honored military veterans from all over the bay area, including a vet of pearl harbor. the dinner raises money for an organization called building better citizens for america. happening today, 100 injured veterans and their supporters will begin a week-long cycling event. the organization "ride to recovery" offers rehabilitation programs to the vets. u-haul donated a truck to the group after theirs, filled with donations, was stolen last week. the cyclists will spend the next seven days raiding more than 500 miles to los angeles. the ride to recovery california challenge will start in palo alto at 9:30 this morning. you say they will face some weather. >> yeah. we are at 60 degrees. the on-shore winds and high tides bay area will see less than a third of an inch. but the santa cruz mountains and monterey looking at heavy rain later on today. right now a smattering of showers from lafayette and livermore and toward palo alto. they are very light and scattered. we had a shower pass over in fremont. you see sunnyvale and cupertino perhaps getting wet. it's from cap toll law into gilroy, san martin looking at heavier weather. cold front from yesterday has stalled out hear. it will take a while to move south but before it moves south and out of the area it will actually move north. as a result, a flash flood watch until 11:00 in the highlighted area here and a coastal flood watch da to the hay tide and the onshore winds into tomorrow. here we are looking at four more additional inches. rainfall amounts, over a half-inch in san francisco. really most of the rain fell in the east in the south bay. looking at a little bit of snow in the sierra nevada. mainly rain, heavy rain. but we still have a winter weather advisory until 11:00 tomorrow above 7,000 feet. 3 to 6 inches over the pass was windy weather. fog on the coast, as well as the golden gate bridge. it's been quiet in the city. 62 concord. you can see the fog here right on the span. so we will be looking at more showers for everyone this evening. that includes the city. it's going to be about the same timing at yesterday. overall the bulk of the day, the north bay and the city should be dry. but elsewhere in the east bay, the peninsula and south bay, it will still be wet. we have the coastal flood advisory along with the beech hazard statement today. high tides and it may cause flooding in the low coastal areas. notice by 8:00 it's still wet from percent -- pescadero and livermore. and by the afternoon the showers become more scattered. this is 4:00. notice we havn't seen any activity in the north bay. it will be windy along the coast, 20 to 30 miles an hour, even in san jose. livermore a breezy to windy afternoon. then by about 5 california in the afternoon here comes the next push. energy. by 9:00 we've got rain pushing out of the area and taking that front with it. so we will look for temperatures today to be kind of muggy. it will be a little on the damp side from fremont and livermore and san jose today with the light rain continuing on and off at times. then over in the east bay, a 1:00 start for the raiders with some scattered light showers by the end of the game, becoming more widely scattered. the accuweather seven-day forecast, 1 on the storm impact scale. a little drizzle in the morning in the north bay and afternoon sun. everyone dries out. the rest of the week warms up. it's an offshore flow and we will be warm in the 80s, even around the bay by the end of the week. if you
