we're going to check back with some of your drive times in just a couple of minutes. >> thank you, sue. breaking news out of vallejo this morning. illegal fireworks are to blame for a one-alarm house fire. this happened around 1:15 this morning. the garage suffered the brunt of the damage but the family is now out of the house. the fire caused $100,000 worth of damage. no one there was hurt. developing news, san jose police are investigating an officer-involved shooting. jessica castro joins us live in san jose with what the family says happened before their loved one was killed. jessica. >> reporter: matt, good morning. it was a teenager who was shot here and that family probably only now trying to get some shut-eye after a very traumatic past 13 hours. by all accounts a really quiet neighborhood is what we've seen this morning as well. the police just wrapped up their investigation. take a look, it was a much different story when they got here to this home yesterday. a man claiming to be the teenager's uncle told abc 7 news the victim was 18 years old, had been depressed and tried to kill himself before cops arrived. but it is still unclear why police fired on the teen. abc 7 news talked to witnesses. >> it was crazy. it was really surreal to see something like this in this neighborhood. like nothing really happens like that here that often. >> reporter: and now as the morning gets going, we are hoping to get more details from police. when we got out here to the scene, we were seeing some police cars out here. they wrapped up, rolled up the police tape, which means they spent about 12 hours here on scene investigating only part of a very lengthy investigation now under way. in san jose, jessica castro, abc 7 news. >> a lot of things to uncover from that. breaking news this morning, an el al flight from new york to israel has landed safely after they got a threat onboard. the flight was headed to tel aviv from jfk when the airline received an anonymous bomb threat. military jets from france and switzerland were deployed. the jets escorted that flight until it made a safe landing. developing news from rome. italian police have arrested a homeless man in connection with the death of an american college student. authorities found the body of 19-year-old beau solomon in a river yesterday. he went missing just hours after arriving in italy for a trip to study abroad. his family says beau was a stellar student and a proud cancer survivor. >> over 15 to 20 procedures growing up throughout his life and was able to overcome all of that. >> his school in rome said he was last seen in a pub with friends. thousands of dollars had been charged on solomon's credit card in milan, miles from where he was found. happening today, a los gatos couple facing charges for sexually abusing their adopted son are expected to appear in court. this was an exclusive i-team story. the alleged victim, dennis flynn, is now 23 years old. he filed a lawsuit in march. court records show dennis told police his adoptive father, ralph flynn, began abusing him after he arrived in the u.s. when he was 9. he says his adoptive mother, carolyn flynn, joined in when he was 15. the couple faces 44 criminal charges. they are expected to be in court this afternoon. marin county supervisors spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in an effort to put a dent in the affordable housing crisis. according to the marin independent journal, the supervisors will spend $450,000 on the section 8 program. under that program low income families pay 30% of their income for rent. marin housing pays the remainder of the rent and the housing authority will try to entice land lowers to accept more of these section 8 vouchers. heads up if you drive on the golden gate bridge. a new lane configuration goes into effect today. here's a live look at the bridge right now. adding an extra northbound lane for the afternoon commute has caused long backups for southbound drivers because they lose a lane. starting today, the extra northbound lane will only be in effect for 30 minutes instead of a full hour. northbound traffic will only had the extra lane from 4:00 to 4:30 tuesdays through fridays. social media went nuts yesterday after we found out that after nine years of the oklahoma city thunder, superstar kevin durant is going to make his way here to oakland. he shocked the nba and a lot of the rest of us as he agreed to a two-year, $54 million deal to join the golden state warriors. with the thunder durant played nine years, won an mvp award and made seven all-star appearances. so here is the gm for oklahoma city talking about durant's exit. >> you know, we're not going to be deterred. we're going to continue to advance. there's a new beginning here for the thunder. and, you know, we have to embrace that and we have to lean into that. >> i guess what do we expect him to say, right? zika virus? we're back up on the roof getting a little mist and a little drizzle here. down in the south bay we're looking at temperatures under a mostly cloudy sky in the mid to upper 50s. the warmest in mountain view at about 60. we've got the same temperature in redwood city and newark. 55 in novato. san pablo and san francisco. danville and lafayette 56 and 57. sailing, there's a small craft advisory north of the bin laden through the delta. swimming, it's going to be sunny out there. watch out for that sunshine and calmer waves. no more rip currents to worry about at the coast. notice temperatures fairly steady the next couple of days. there will be some minor tweaks like the north bay will warm up while the south bay may hold steady if not cool just a little bit in some areas because of the wind shift that's coming. your weekend forecast coming up and a little warmer weather on the way. here's sue. let's take a look at that san ramon valley drive. if you're traveling southbound on 680 walnut creek to dublin, 15 minutes. from santa rosa into san francisco, just under an hour, fog-free until you get to sausalito and then it's very foggy. highway 1 to los gatos, that's northbound on 17, with a 23-minute drive. here's a look at your east shore freeway where we have the metering lights on at the bay bridge. also it looks like a car out of gas at the toll plaza, third lane from the right so heads up there. otherwise you're looking at a solid stream of traffic. it is moving, though, fairly nicely. to san jose, 87 past the sap center, very light conditions at this hour. this hour. coming up on 6:12. >> the barge did blow up near the end of a fireworks show. a malfunction caused an explosion and fire on that barge. that was being used as a launch point. witnesses say the fireworks show had been going on about 10 minutes when there was a big boom on that barge, followed by bursts of fire. so the show didn't go on as planned, but at least no one was hurt. this seems to make sense, more u.s. cities are looking at 911 texting as an option during emergencies. this includes photos and videos in realtime from people who need help. technology is receiving new attention after last month's shooting at the pulse nightclub in orlando. many people texted relatives to call 911 because it was too dangerous to make a call. they couldn't text 911 directly because orlando is among many u.s. cities that don't have that technology. the candid and disturbing message from rio police to anyone going to the olympics. and soaring to freedom on the fourth of july. the fourth of july. after the break, the stunt at there has been a quest for sout of this world refreshment., now the search is over. cool! aquafina. for happy bodies. and see ice age: collision course in theaters july 22. tempur-breeze bed is it's cool. you're not too hot, too cold, you're just perfect. you just get in and it naturally adapts to your body and creates the perfect temperature for you. (vo) sleep cooler, wake more refreshed. discover the new temper-breeze. ♪ fruit. nuts. silky smooth dark chocolate. revel in the pleasure of dove® fruit and nut. happening today, pretrial motions are beginning for the fourth baltimore police officer to be tried in the death of freddie gray. lieutenant brian rice is facing four charges. among them manslaughter and assault. gray died last year after suffering a spinal injury that occurred while being driven in a police van. rice is expected to ask for a bench trial with no jury before the same judge who acquitted two other officers in the gray case. a third officer's proceeding was declared a mistrial. disturbing accusations from some police officers in rio de janeiro just weeks before the olympic games. a group of officers say police won't be able to protect tourists. the group marched to rio's airport as a warning. they claim officers and firefighters haven't been paid for months and that crime rates are on the rise. now, others are denying the report. in fact one military police official says everything will be taken care of before the opening ceremony. >> we have a very common saying here in brazil, for the english to see. i believe that the politicians here are doing everything for the english to see. >> that's an ominous interview. for the english to see, meaning put on a show for public consumption. over the next month, brazil's government plans to flood rio's tour zones and olympic venues with troops. safety and zika are just two of the problems facing folks in rio but a new york town may have a solution to one of them, bats. north hemp stead is building boxes that function as bat houses to attract more bats. bats chomp 1,000 mosquitos an hour. they hope it will reduce the risk of zika in their community. there you go, more bats. i don't know what you want to have more of. >> mike, there is sort of a cooldown that we're experiencing from the weekend at least, right? >> yeah, definitely. we started yesterday, we're going to feel it again today and it's going to hold through at least saturday and then we'll get summer warmth back into the forecast. good morning from the top of the roof where i'm getting hit with a little mist and drizzle and this breeze that's around all day. let's see what it's doeg to your commute. we'll start in the north bay where you can see in san rafael it's pretty dry, but coming across the golden gate, definitely need the wind shield wipers. clouds and sun, cool to mild highs today. more drizzle tonight and cool through the early part of the weekend. let's take a look at the next three hours. you can see there's no organized areas of rain but it's definitely going to be misty and drizzly, at least through 9:00, possibly even 10:00 at the coast. now, by noon we're still going to have a little fog rolling across the golden gate and that will be a mainstay through the afternoon hours. we'll find the 80s in the east bay. we'll get close in the south bay with los gatos and morgan hill 79 but mid to upper 70s. even cooler on the peninsula, low to mid-70s. millbrae, 66 degrees today. upper 50s along the coast. downtown, south san francisco, sausalito, low to mid-60s. check out these temperatures in the north bay, low to mid-70s. average high in santa rosa is about 83 degrees. only 75 today. average high in oakland 72. only 66 degrees today. inland east bay, upper 70s to mid-80s. average high in livermore is 88, only making 81 today. going to the game this evening, it's going to be a brisk one with clouds rolling in on these breezes and temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. here's my accuweather seven-day forecast. holding steady for the most part wednesday. the coolest part of this air mass will sit on top of us thursday, friday and saturday. then we'll get a little bit of a warming trend sunday and monday. we'll try to get those temperatures back closer to average which will be 60s at the coast and 80s to near 90 for the rest of us. how about the morning commute? hi, sue. >> we're stacked up at the bay bridge. metering lights were turned on at 5:29. there's a car out of gas in the third lane to the right that's been pushed off to the shoulder. you do have a bit of a delay back towards the macarthur maze from highway 4 herk lose all the way into san francisco, about a 55-minute drive. that's fairly typical once the metering lights are on. about a 45-minute valley into dublin/pleasanton. the orange represents fog down on the roadways. we have a car off the roadway at devil's slide. authorities are just coming across it. they want to do one-way traffic control so we'll check back on that in just a few minutes. >> thanks, sue. a spectacular scene in southern california on the fourth of july and it had nothing to do with fireworks. take a look at the top right of your screen. that's a bald eagle. it is soaring to freedom at dodgers stadium. it represents freedom, right? company. hostess brands has been shuffled between different owners since it filed for bankruptcy in 2012. it's now being sold to a private equity firm for $375 million. it's going to go public once that deal closes later this year. it was feared by some insiders that the hostess cupcake was a fading piece of americana. those fears, it appears, were premature. time now to ask vinny. have you ever tweet. he tweeted a graphic critical hillary clinton that featured a six-point star. critics say it evoked anti-semitic imagery. trump said the star was a sheriff's badge but later replaced it with a circle. his social media director said the star was lifted from an anti-hillary twitter user. the arizona sheriff who once made inmates wear pink underwear is at it again. that would be sheriff joe arpaio of maricopa county. he assigned inmates who were military veterans to hand out striped jail suits with u.s. flags stitched into them. a long-standing federal code says you can't wear the american flag as apparel. arpaio says this is about something more personal. >> this is one way to display that love, loyalty, patriotism, even in a jail environment. >> critics say arpaio was looking for cheap publicity on a slow news day. he is running for a seventh term while defending him in a racial profiling case. some napa county residents are buzzing over a recent visit from nancy pelosi. during a recent trip to st. helena, pelosi's security detail violated traffic laws to get her to a shoe store. some store owners questioned that driving because the visit appeared to be a shopping trip and not official business. pelosi's spokesperson says that pelosi's security detail always complies with appropriate laws and regulations. st. helena police say there's nothing they can really do nicco. >> good morning, reggie, matt. hi, everybody. if you weren't with us yesterday, this is what you missed. a little mist and a little drizzle out there. maybe you slept through it but you'll be driving into it in many areas today. east bay hills, sausalito, through the golden gate bridge, down the coast, that's what we're dealing with. let's take a look at my 12-hour day planner and talk about what we're seeing at pier 15. winds around 19 at the golden gate to about 24 at angel island so it's brisk and misty for your ferry ride this morning. temperatures in the 50 to 60-degree range. by noon 56 at the coast, 72 inland and 58 at the coast to only 78 inland. we're getting a break from summer and a break from high electric bills but that's not going to last too much longer. i'll let you know. we do have orange on your traffic map and that represents thick fog. slow traffic out of tracy and the central valley for about a 55-minute drive into dublin/pleasanton. big problem on the coast near pacifica. there's a sig alert in effect now perhaps due to thick fog there but a car went off the roadway and apparently it's been there a couple of hours. chp finally on scene. they have shut down all of highway 1 past lindemar so you'll have to come around and take highway 92. breaking news in vallejo. a family is out of its house this morning after fireworks burned down a part of their house. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live near the site. amy? >> reporter: hi, reggie, good morning. a neighbor just came out and stared in disbelief at all of this damage. look for yourself, a boarded-up red tagged garage and burned appliances and furniture now sitting out on the yard ready to be taken away. the neighbors said that the fireworks that came out of this house last night were loud. it's sad and hard to believe that this happened. here's a look at what it looked like right after the fire. look closely, it's debris from fireworks and firefighters do think that's what caused this fire here in this garage. the family who lives here is displaced, two adults and a child. even though this just happened, firefighters were quick to zero in on what happened. >> we had a fire investigator on the scene that reported the cause of the fire. illegal fireworks that breached the wall and made it into the garage. >> reporter: vallejo firefighters got the call at 1:15 this morning. they estimate that this fire did about $100,000 worth of damage. they say that they did save the home but the family did have to leave. they cannot stay here at this time and this is all they say because of illegal fireworks. but the good news is no one was hurt. live in vallejo, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. an effort by oakland police and firefighters who have cracked down on illegal fireworks seems to have done little good. check that out. people began launching fireworks throughout the city before the sun went down last night. neighbors reported seeing illegal fireworks everywhere. peter croft posted this video on youtube. we're still waiting to hear how many people were actually caught by police. >> this is the first year san jose offered an online form on the city website and had an app so you could report people using illegal fireworks easily. it looks like almost 300 people submitted those reports. the city raised fines in hopes people would go to organized events. investigators haven't ruled out illegal fireworks for sparking a fire that drove a woman and her dog from their home in the oakland hills. you can see all the damage. abc 7 news was there as firefighters looked for hot spots inside a burned-out duplex last night. the fire broke out on reuben drive just after 6:00. nobody got hurt there. crews were able to stop the flames before they reached other nearby homes. we are tracking developing news out of the south bay. jessica castro joins us live in san jose where police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting. good morning, jessica. >> reporter: good morning, matt. it was a teenage boy who was shot and police were out here this morning when we arrived on scene. they were out here all night long in what's going to be a very lengthy investigation that has only just begun. it happened at this home in east san jose on feller avenue near story road just before 5:00 p.m. yesterday. a family member who claimed to be the teenager's uncle told abc 7 news that his nephew was 18 years old, was depressed and had tried to kill himself before police arrived. police have not said why they fired on the man. >> we initially saw a lot of police officers with ar-15s and rifles and that's when we heard two gunshots and they sounded like high-powered rifle shots. somebody was screaming and we saw one man in the back of a police car like banging his head on the window. >> reporter: other neighbors who spoke to abc 7 say it's typically a quiet neighborhood. by everything that we've seen this morning, that has been the case. it's been pretty quiet. and now that investigation is under way as it ramps up throughout the day today, we do expect to get more information. reporting in san jose, jessica castro, abc 7 news. the gun control battle resumes in the u.s. house today. you likely remember that sit-in that democrats staged two weeks ago. well, democrats are going to get a vote. they're not going to get the vote they wanted. it doesn't matter anyway because this likely isn't going anywhere. representatives are expected to vote on republican-sponsored legislation that would block people on terrorism watch lists from buying guns. this bill is in response to the orlando nightclub massacre. a similar bill was already rejected by the senate. house democrats are saying this bill doesn't go far enough. democrats staged a sit-in after republicans refused to bring gun control measures to the floor for a vote. republicans cut off the tv feed but democrats got their message out on social media. speaker paul ryan called for today's vote a week later. gilroy police hope someone will identify the man seen on the left side of this image. he's suspected of taking near low $1,000 from a woman's purse at burlington coat factory on saturday. the thief grabbed the purse from a shopping cart while the victim was just a few feet away. after taking the money, he handed the purse to a cashier claiming he had found it. happening today, the cal student killed after being taken hostage in bangladesh's capital city is going to be remembered. tarishi jain was in dhaka for the summer visiting family and interning at uc berkeley's center for bangladesh studies. jain was one of 20 hostages killed in the attack on friday. she was a sophomore at cal. today's vigil to honor those victims starts at noon at the uc beckrkeley campus. president obama and hillary clinton will appear on the campaign trail together for the first time today. now the president is showing his support. one objective of today's rally in north carolina is to tout clinton's achievements and experience. the clinton campaign is also vetting housing and urban development secretary julian castro as a potential vice presidential candidate. meanwhile, donald trump is playing coy about his choice for vp. he met over the weekend with iowa senator joni ernst but all he would say is that they had a good talk. ernst is not considered to be one of the favorites on his list. trump also tweeted a question about who would pay for the trip today with president obama and hillary clinton. for the record, when the president travels for political purposes, the government does get reimbursed for the travel costs. a teenager who bought a t-shirt expressing support for donald trump got a nasty response from a san francisco business. 14-year-old alexander posted this video on youtube of a custom shirt he had made at bang on t-shirts. on the outside it says trump. on the inside we had to blur it out because there's an expletive. alexander said things quick low went downhill after he placed his order. >> they looked at me confused and shocked because i wanted trump on it. the co-worker comes over and looks over and reads trump in a disgusted voice. >> someone from the head office of bang on posted an apology on the company's facebook page, which also says the employee has been fired. alexander says a manager called him, gave him a refund. he decided he's going to keep the shirt. happening now, a manmade craft is orbiting jupiter for the first time ever. nasa scientists cheered when it was positioned perfectly in orbit last night. they were happy. over the next 20 months, juno will search jupiter for signs of water, map its terrain and determine what's at the core of the planet that's made up almost entirely of hydrogen and helium. >> you're overjoyed that it's there and that the reason you did the mission has now come to fruition. at the same time, you can't help but worry that something will go wrong. >> juno will begin taking measurements in october with the first pictures coming soon after. then in 2018, juno will be sent on a suicide mission into jupiter. >> matt, say it's not so. >> yes, it will be the end. scientists want to make sure it does not crash into the watery moon europa and contaminate it. >> i have a fantasy that this ends like wall-e. is that possible, mike nicco? are phenomenal. good morning, everybody. i'm still sitting in the mist and drizzle here in san francisco and a brisk breeze. temperatures in the mid to upper 50s on the peninsula. palo alto, 61. clouds are not near low as thick as here. we've got 60 in fremont, mountain view and santa rosa at 51. let's head up to santa rosa where we're going to jump to 70 by noon, 74 at 2:00. we'll top out at 75 after the 2:00 hour. 69 by 6:00. well below our average high of 81 degrees. all right, tomorrow will be a lot like today. however, the wind shifts just a little bit and starts coming out of the northwest more. the north bay will be a little warmer. we'll drop a couple degrees thursday, rebound a little bit friday. i'll let you know if that rebound becomes a little bit more major as we head into the weekend. sue. >> problems on the coast with not just fog in pacifica, but a car went over the embankment several hours ago. it took police a while to find it and now they had to shut down highway 1 at devil's sloide and issued a sig alert. to add insult to injury, eastbound 92, we have the left lane blocked with an accident here so all ways out of the coast from half moon bay are really jammed right now. this one hopefully will clear. at least you've got one lane open on highway 1. we don't have any lanes open there. we will look also at your highway 4 drive out of antioch. speeds are fine and then they slow down through bay point and pick up into concord for about a 23-minute drive antioch into concord westbound. >> thanks, sue. well, forget snatching your phone for results of a survey aimed at establishing hubs for all those tech shuttles. the idea is to narrow the places where the buses can pick up tech worke workers. right now they stop at 125 locations in the city and critics say that's just too many. according to "the examiner" two popular locations are on mission street near the 24th street b.a.r.t. station and van ness avenue. transportation leaders will present those findings to the board of supervisors in the fall. you can't win if you don't play and if you don't play the mega millions lottery tonight, you could miss out on a huge jackpot. the
