you know how this deviated from the rest of the forecast including the holiday coming up. chris? >> thank you. we begin with breaking news out of the east bay. a water main break in pleasant hill has damaged businesses and will force the closure of contra costa boulevard this morning. the 12 machine pipe burst near woodsworth lane. you can see how much water has been released. it has since been turned off. crews will begin repairing the rth way at 8:00 this morning. contra costa boulevard will be shut off between gregory lane and woodsworth for an undetermined time. more breaking news in michigan. a man suspected of driving drunk smashed into a natural gas line at an energy training facility in the town of melvindale forcing the evacuation of several neighborhoods. crews quickly turned the gas off. the driver was hospitalized and no one else was hurt. police have roped off an 18 square mile block area around the crash site. authorities in bangladesh are increasing security in the capital city of dhaka after forces stormed a cafe following a ten hour stand off that landed in a blood bath. it 20 hostages and six others were killed as well as police men. here is abc news anchor. >> this all began when gun men attacked the holey artisan bakery when the cafe turned into a babe bakery. >> i was working in the pizza kitchen and saw two men begin their attack. people ducked for cover and started to run. i managed to make it onto the roof of the building. this we were throwing bombs and the windows were shaking. >> reporter: the popular restaurant in the capital diplomatic area was packed at the end of another day long fast during the islamic holy month of ral dan. the attackers apparently chanting god is great took hostages, most of them foreigners and exchanged gunfire with security forces. neighbors watched in horror. >> the explosion happened and i heard it, like, it was a really large boom. >> reporter: the cafe is just one mile from the american embassy which warns u.s. citizens to shelter in place. >> we're accounting for all private american citizens who may have been in the area. we don't have finality on that. all americans working for the united states incisimission dhaka are safe. one gunman was captured alive. a witness said anyone was spared if they could recite from the corian. enable push alerts to get updates as they happen. the fourth of july is just happening and bay area officials are dealing with illegal fireworks. >> reporter: mitch matlow took us to a vantage point over san jose. is this what we saw. >> there is no safe way to do it in your front yard. even the smaller devices called safe, people get hurt from those every year. >> he has seen one person burned on their face, arms and legs. san jose police have made two arrests this week and in east palo alto, firefighters have battled three fireworks related brushfires gl it is very dangerous. >> for the first time in san jose, you can report illegal fire work activity online. >> they can go to point gov/fireworks and submit videos and pictures as well. >> if you're busted, prepare to pay. fines in san jose now range from 500 to $1,000. fines have also increased in santa cruz where all fireworks are also outlawed. >> this is an all hands on deck weekend. we'll have every available officer patrolling our streets, downtown, beaches and marzulo, abc 7 news. police in dublin showed off the 400 pounds of fireworks confiscated on an online sting operation. investigators arrested two people accused of stealing illegal fire works the city of dublin has a zero tolerance policy but is one of the few bay area cities allowing safe and sane fireworks to be sold. a new fire has erupted and has quickly grown to 1,900 acres. 12 buildings are threatened. some people living near the fire have been ordered out of their homes. firefighters also say the fire is spreading fast because of the wind. a section of highway 198 is closed between col-- coalinga. a wildfire has grown to 2,500 acres. the trail head fire is threatening 2,600 structures in el dorado. the fire has led to mandatory evacuations and is only 12% contained. in san francisco, a woman is in the hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a charter bus. the crash happened just before 6:00 last night at broadway and sansome street. passengers on the skyline coach bus were let off after the crash. no one else was hurt. police have not determined who is at fault. san francisco police are investigating a crash involving a limo and a pedestrian. it happened at around 9:30 last night on 19th avenue and winston drive right next to the stonestown galleria. the 30-year-old victim was taken to the hospital but there is no word yet on the extent of the victim's injuries. you might face delays if you're headed between east bay and marin county. let's take a live look odd. this is the richmond, san raphael toll plaza where one lane is closed on the upper deck for emergency pothole repairs. cal trans will close one lane from 9:00 p.m. until 9:00 a.m. both tonight and tomorrow night. visiting the golden gate bridge won't be easy this holiday weekend. abc7 news was at the visitor parking lot as workers closed off car access. the north and south lots will be closed between 11 in the morning until 5:00 p.m. the north visitors lot will be closed for the entire day. if you're heading south this weekend to santa cruz, be aware. there are major street closures. south santa cruz avenue, oh, this is in loss gatos. this is the second year in a row for the closures. the city wants to keep beach goers from cutting through downtown and clogging streets. tate and muscle avenues will be closed at highway 9. south santa cruz avenue off ramp from northbound 17 is open. whale watchers are flocking to the san mateo county coastline to see an amazing show. a humpback whale has been breaching the water off of the coast of pacifica. we went there to share the excitement. >> reporter: this is the spectacular show people have been watching at pacifica state beach the last few days. >> we saw so many whales. they started over here and every once in awhile, they would pop their heads up and breach a little bit. >> alley fitzgerald and pete weaver among the dozens of surfers get ag an up close and personal look at the whales. >> half the time i'm like, right there, there is the spout. i just missed it or i saw it, too, it is great. it is really fun. >> this is the place for easy whale watching. these folks are from missouri my father in law lives here in pacifica. he has been telling us about the whales. >> they come up and dive up. they're absolutely beautiful. >> scientists tell us recent weather patterns have pushed schools of fish closer to shore and the whales are coming in to feed. you can see that in video from sky 7 hd. >> it is called lunge feeding. they will do a little circle under the water, down below the school of fish to try to coral them into a tighter school and they'll come up through the middle of the school with their mouth open. >> what we don't know is how long this will last. residents and surfers fog from the city up towards the north. elsewhere, it is pretty nice morning and we're looking at some 60s, 70s, and 80s, nearly perfect out there. a typical fourth of july pattern. i'll have the 25-year-old stacy piagno on the mound making a bit of history. >> i try not to think about the hype of it. just play baseball. >> stacy is not alone. kelsie whitmore is in the field. she is only 17. a stand out high school softball player from southern california. her mind was on one thing. >> i was focusing on my game and i was just like, everything cleared and i felt right. >> reporter: this is history in the making. the first time since the 1950s, two women have been on the same team in a men's professional league. the idea came from none other than hollywood director francis ford coppola, sonoma county resident and huge stompers fan. >> he charged with this mission to find a couple of women to play along side the men. >> some guys on the team have mixed emotions. >> if they can come out here and play with us, compete with us, they deserve to have their opportunity out here even in a shared locker room. >> no one is walking around naked. >> women in baseball. it is time. haven't you seen a league of their own. >> they recognize the instant role model thing is real. >> we're paving a way for young girls which is amazing and it is great but at the same time, we're doing this 7 news. california new vaccination law is in effect forcing almost every child to be vaccined before they can attend public or private school. a bitter fight and even legal challenges by parents who don't trust vaccines led up to this. as leeann melendez tells us, the effects of the law are being felt. >> ashley pitch yeer is a paren opposed to the new law. >> i'm opposed to the state making our own medical choices. >> she asked we not show her 2-year-old son who won't be attending a preschool or eventually kindergarten. >> fortunately for us, we have the option for me to be able to home school him. a lot of the other families in california do not have that luxury. >> reporter: a few other parents have decided to move to other states rather than be forced to have their children vaccined as a requirement to enroll in school. the bill was prompted by a measles outbreak that started in disneyland last year. 113 people got sick. the governor signed it into law last year. only those with a medical condition can request an exemption from a doctor. because of the hipaa privacy law, the doctor doesn't have to disclose the ailment. will some parents try to circumvent the law? >> yes. >> amy bakarak is one of the founders of the group vaccinate california. >> parents will try to find a way. the vast majority of californians do vaccinate and do believe in vaccinations. >> california is seeing a decline in the number of exemptions. the the department of public health collected data during the 2015 fall semester showing that nearly 93% of children in kindergarten received their required vaccines, up from the previous years. that number is expected to increase by this fall. leeann melendez. abc 7 news. tuesday night's mega millions jackpot will be tied for the 7th largest in u.s. history. nobody matched all six numbers in the $415 million drawing. the numbers were 20, 41, 42, 45, 49, and the mega ball was 14. we also have these numbers on our website at today, the 32nd annual jazz festival kicks off in the city. the two day event is billed as the largest jazz festival on the west coast. there will be 12 blocks of music, crafts, food and gourmet drinks. each will play a full set or song dedicated to a musician we lost in the past year including prince and david bowe. the festival starts at 10:00 a.m. just in time for a hot holiday weekend, the water features at two danville parks will be flowing again. the features at sycamore valley parks have been shut down because of drought. just this week, danville officials were notified that they were good to go with the water. the features will be turned on this morning at 10:00. a nice day on tap to take advantage of those water features. here is lisa argen. >> concord, liver more, low to level system bringing a return to the on shore flow. it was breezy the past few days. today should be pretty nice in parts of the bay. already you can see some of the cloud deck here, certainly not growing very tall or pushing way inland. 52 in half moon bay. we have about four to five mile visibility from half moon bay up from san francisco. 57 in oakland. 58 in mountain view with clear skies. san jose, you're looking good. the view from emoryville, east bay. it is clear but typical. low 50s for you in santha rosa. novato down to 50 with 60 in concord, liver more, 57 and by the delta southwest wind. 21 miles an hour transporting the nice breath of fresh air inland. this is san jose, it is clear for you this morning. foggy in parts of the coast. otherwise we're looking at a typical pattern for the fourth of july. limited fog for the fireworks, clear inland. parts of the bay will be clear but the coast will have the low cloud deck but they know how to work with that along the shoreline. so our beach hazard statement, well it is really for the strong rip currents and the l cold ocean water temperatures with low 50s here, even just about 50 along the north coast and in santa cruz, yeah, pretty gray right now but sunshine, upper 60s with a mild afternoon today, tomorrow, into the fourth, with a high uv index, so plenty of sunscreen if you're headed that way today. overall, the picture looks warm inland but not too hard to take. then we go into tomorrow, a slight drop, almost indiscernible difference. 60s, 70s, 80s, very comfortable beyond that. we're looking even cooler. as we check out? -- as we check out some fairs around town, pleasanton, 3:00, 88 back to the 80s, we have low clouds and fog in san raphael. mid-60s for the marin county fair. 7:00 at 3:00 p.m. and 70 degrees. mid-60s by 7:00 p.m. certainly much cooler in san rafael and pleasant. 72 vallejo. 69 half moon bay. 82 in santa rosa. so for fireworks it will be cloudy at the coast and clear inland. upper 60s, concord. 64 in oakland. the accuweather 78 day forecast then today. upper 50s to near 60. a little change near the fourth and notice the trend looks cooler for the first week of >> it seems to be more expensive. i'm wondering why we're not getting the gas prices, you know, translating to the jet flu. >> kalene braden is like most, thinking the travel prices are going up. but they're a mixed bag this year. >> plane flight prices have gone down 6 1/2% over last year on average. hotels have actually increased a little bit. >> mickey mericle is the vice president of marketing insights and analytics at adobe. adobe runs much of the behind the scene world of the internet. that gives it a unique view of travel pricing. >> trillions and trillions of transactions flow through our tools every year and this gives us the ability to look at aggregated data and pull those up into trends. >> the aadobe trends show the best time to buy tickets is 90 days before the flight. >> 90 days is consistently the best and lowest prices. then it plateaus. let me tell you, the worst time to start buying tickets is 20 days or less. what we see on average sl that prices start to go up three % a day. >> by the day of the flight, and -- buy the day of the flight and you're paying 60% more. which brings us back to karene and carter braden at the airport. >> the price is beginning to go down. >> that is good to know. we're going to hawaii next year. >> adobe has come up with a formula so you can judge if you're getting a good deal. for a domestic flight, 230 plus 32 cents a mile. the formula really does work. the formula generally lands in the middle of what you can expect to pay. i'm michael finney, 7 on your side. 6:26 is your time. you're looking at joey chestnut at yesterday's weight in for the hot dog eating contest. he hopes to reclaim the mustard melt when the most prolific eaters eat on july 4th. stoney ended chestnut's eight year reign by downing 62 hot dogs in ten minutes. we have much more ahead on the abc 7 morning news. division on the campaign trail in marin county. you may have heard of a contested convention but what about a contested county fai thanks for waking up with us. i'm chris nguyen. we're starting this hour with a quick look at the weather with meteorologist argen. you're seeing the marine layer holding together here. we have pockets of clear sky starting out with a cool 52 in the city as well as morgan hill and half moon bay. 56 half moon bay and 57 oakland. mount view is clear, 57. another vantage point and you'll notice that from the east bay hills camera, you'll notice clouds here as well but it is not a solid deck of low clouds. 60 in concord. 57 livermore. 59 in fair field and 59 in santa rosa. the rest of the morning, notice clouds will be filling in along the shoreline. we'll look at a cloudy coast, breezy there, sunny inland and speaking of the sun on the peninsula, sfo looking very nice this morning. numbers ranging from the mid-60s to near 80 around the bay. a lot cooler than that and cloudier at the coast. 63 downtown. 80 to 90 inland but the 90s well out toward the east bay valleys. new this morning, president obama says we should all look into how we can serve the veterans and military families in our communities. this was the subject of this morning's weekly address. the president, who says he will spend the fourth throwing burgers and hot dogs on the grill pointed out the issue of professional licensing where military spouses must reapply for a license each time they move. >> until recently when the spouses were asked to move across state lines, they often needed to recertify for a job they're already qualified for. a nurse with years of experience might have to take entry level courses or pay a fee or wait months for paperwork to be processed before he or she could get back to work on the job they love and let them support their families. >> according to the president, all 50 states have acted to stream line many of the licensing issues. the fbi could interview hillary clinton within the next few days as part of the investigation into the use of her private e-mail server. a source familiar with the doj investigation says its goal is to complete the investigation and make recommendations on whether charges should be filed before the two major party conventions take place. it would be toward the latter half of july. last year it was revealed that clinton had exclusively used her family's private e-mail server for official communications during her tenure as secretary of state. you've seen iowa politics played out at county fairs and now it is our turn. partisan politics are proudly on display at the marin county fair. abc 7 news wayne freedman was there. >> reporter: it is the kind of place where we might assume all americans could get along. the marin county fair. if we made such an assumption, we would be wrong. >> walked right past them. averted our eyes. >> really? >> oh, god, yes. i wouldn't give them the time of day. >> reporter: so said the women at the democratic booth talking about the republicans not far away and over there, no love lost, right back at you. >> have you seen the democrats booth over there. >> nope. >> you haven't looked? >> nope. not interested. >> it is america in a mik mike micro chasm. >> on the other side of the wall. >> he is a formidable person. he is a large, formidable person. >> this large? >> close. >> in a heavily democratic county, one might think the republicans would stick together but instead we found two booths back-to-back, donna fife ran the cruz campaign locally and karen molden is running trumps. >> is there something symbolic in that. >> how do you mean? >> it parallels what is going on in the real world. you know, obviously republicans are embarrassed by him. >> we haven't got a nominee yet so we're still representing all candidates. >> as the trump side tells it, the party would not pay for a larger booth and they had too much stuff for a smaller one. karen molden put up more than $1,000 of her own money for this area. >> it was her choice but they made their choice, i made mine. >> i have no idea how, you know, how this all came about. >> it is a little awkward. >> not for me. >> the rest of us can wait until november. at the marin county fair. wayne freedman, abc 7 news. california already has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation but yesterday, governor brown tightened them further by signing a half dozen new bills into law. critics accuse the governor of exploiting recent tragedies like the san bernardino and orlando terror attacks. here is eric thomas with the story. >> they're going to make people and the criminals that are not criminals. >> scott jackson is showing us how one of the new laws would affect the so called bullet button on the ar 15 rifle. the old law made these guns legal because you needed a tool to remove the magazine. the new law requires a permanently fixed magazine. they will be qualified at assault weapons and those are illegal. jackson is not a fan. >> every time there is more terrorist attacks, they're going to try to cut down on the gun haws and take our rights away and criminals are exempt from the law. >> reporter: and lawmakers were supered by the attack in san bernardino that killed 14 people and the attack in florida that killed 49. >> i think the american people are ready for a change. how many people have to die before we say enough is enough? >> reporter: state senator lonnie hancock supports a law that would ban high capacity buns. others ban bullet buttons, require background checks to buy ammo, and ban lending a weapon to anyone without a background check and make it a crime to file a false report that a gun is lost or stolen. >> gun safety regulations are good for california and would be good for the country if we can get washington to take some action. >> the governor did veto four other vetoes passed by lawmakers and the new laws are expected to be challenged in court. eric thomas, abc 7 news. san francisco police have arrested two men in connection with a union square jewelry sto store burglary last week. this surveillance video shows one of the burglars smashing a jewelry case on june 23rd. police say they stole a half million in merchandise. the owner of the store says the value was closer to $2 million. investigators arrested 24-year-old andreas garrett and carnell pitts. police released these crystal clear surveillance photos after the heist. mosquitos collected in two zip codes tested positive for the west nile virus. it prompted the county to schedule a new round of fogging in an effort to prevent human cases of the virus. this affects zip codes 95125 and 95136. they have scheduled ground fogging operations next thursday night starting at 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. west nile virus doesn't cause symptoms in most people but in some individuals, it can cause fever, headache, and body aches and in severe cases neurological damage and even death. after a five year journey to jupiter, nasa's juno space craft is about to slam on the brakes. juno will arrive at jupiter on the fourth of july after traveling for almost five years through solar system as juno crossed the boundary of the immense magnetic field. nasa recorded the sound of the super sonic solar wind. it is a lot like a sonic boom you might hear on earth. take a listen. that is the sound in space 1.7 billion miles away. if everything goes as planned, juno will orbit the planet. pull the pole 36 times gathering data, and when it over it will point itself at the planet and dive into a fiery death in jupiter's upper atmosphere. still ahead on the abc7 morning news. a stanford student says he helped fight 160,000 parking tickets. how you can use his virtual lawyer for free. here is a live look outside from the santa cruz camera. lisa argen will have your full holiday forecast in just a few minutes. san rafael, south bay, pleasanton and all of the bay area. this is abc 7 news. good morning, everyone, as we celebrate the nation's birthday this weekend, a las vegas casino is having a celebration. station casinos put on a huge fireworks show last night. the company started with a single bingo palace in 1976. las vegas goers know it as palace station. station casinos now has 19 properties and is still growing. it recently announced the acquisition of the palms casino resort. we're off to a mild start across the bay area. lisa has more on what is ahead for the holiday weekend. >> hey, chris, we're looking at really nice pictures this morning. check out emoryville. 57 degrees. partly cloudy skies going for a high, very similar to yesterday, mid and upper 50i6's near the east bay shoreline. afr average high is 71. we'll trend downward this holiday weekend. i'll explain next. the giants have a lot of injuries but the back-ups deliver. larry beal has the highlights of the come back win over wannwith sodastream®er?
