I know, but whats your last name. Brown. They graced countless advertisements and they werent just guests at the cafe, they were entertainment. They wanted autographs . Always, they would get up and want to take pictures and the twins would love it. Strolling through union square, they were as recognizable as sir Francis Drakes doormen. That ended when vivian was hospitalized for alzheimers disease. She was the he would by 8 minutes. Ser sister alone for the first time. I hope they find a cure for alzheimers. Marion visited vivian almost daily, thanks to an outpouring of donations that allowed her to stay in the city. People would email with money to offer help and volunteer to donate. Services are costly when you are elderly and you need care. Caretakers say vivian finally passed away, peacefully in her sleep. The brown twins were so impeccable in their identicalness, even people who know them for decades say there isnt a story, a conversation or even an outfit that was just one of them. Could you tell them apart . No, i couldnt tell them apart. Honestly, i could not tell them apart. There was no way to tell them apart. As a matter of fact, you would not want to tell them apart. Former mayor, willie brown, said the twins embodied the uniqueness that represents San Francisco. Their passage means onehalf of that theme is now gone. A little bit of the city just left us. In San Francisco, Jonathan Bloom, abc7 news. It is 6 42. Lisa argen keeping an aon our very cold forecast. But its a beautiful start to the frosty saturday. Numbers in the lower 30s. Lisa argen will be here in a few minutes with the details. The selfdriving car may be years away but its development is yielding short term advances to make driving safer and easier. Some of that research is underway in Silicon Valley. Business and Technology Reporter david louie shows us some examples. We can all relate to this, returning to a parking lot we find the car is boxed in, making it difficult, even impossible, to open the door but technology can solve this dilemma. Ultrasonic sensors built into the bumpers, along with driver assisted technology, can move the car out of the tight box. While theres a long range vision to create autonomous or selfdriving cars, audi is working on incremental technology. We assist them in very predictable situations. We also can allow that he is a little bit relaxed on whats happening with the car, but he still remains behind the Steering Wheel to be in charge of whats happening with the car. Audi is part of the Volkswagen Group that runs this Electronics Research lab in Silicon Valley. More than 100 engineers, designers and others are working on prototypes. Heres another example of driver assistance. Squeezing into a tight spot in the garage. While cars may some day be able to drive themselves, engineers believe drivers need to ease into it and to know when to intervene. If you suddenly introduce total autonomous technology, you dont know if the person takes over immediately, right . So we want to make sure there are steps that people have the experience and practice of being able to take over when they need to and then eventually it will be natural when they need to take over when the car is a little more autonomous. Research such as this is often done in secret, but audi, by letting us see some of what they are working on, not only excites the public about the future of the automotive industry, but also gives engineers here in the valley some impetus to rethink their careers and perhaps working in this field. Abc7 news. Lisa has the forecast now. Its a chilly one now and it will be chillier later. We have a lot of sunshine to look forward to. The Sierra Nevada not getting new snow but they have a cold start. Minus 10 is the temperature at the tahoe Valley Airport, with the highs of the lower 20s. But with the string of cold nights for the next several nights, we are still talking about frost. Perhaps a hard freeze tonight. Sunny and cool the rest of the weekend looks dry, and the milder weather getting into play by the middle to the end of the work week. So it has been unusually cool. In fact, numbers should be in the midand upper 50s for this time of year. Heres the system that really didnt am to anything. In fact, it just brought enough cloud cover and enough of a breeze out there to allow for the numbers to stay up just a little bit tonight or last night, i should say. Partly cloudy skies to mostly sunny this afternoon. Talked about that minus 10 at the tahoe Valley Airport. 26 for an afternoon high. 50 today in sacramento. Its just 57 in los angeles. They have had the icy roadways throughout the grapevine. 34 in yosemite and we will be dry from north to south today.
